I got nailed good in a response from a mysterious writer named Matombo(Who could he be?). He points out that former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan carried Champaign County by 4,000 votes in his unsuccessful gubernatorial campaign against Gov. Rod Blagojevich. I could have sworn Blago carried Champaign County. It seemed like he carried virtually all of the 102 counties in Illinois. Of course, I might be hallucinating about that, too. At any rate, I'm positive Ryan lost the election. If not, we wouldn't be calling Blago Gov. Blago.
The lesson here is that sometimes things we think we know for certain aren't true. That's why I should have checked before I referenced Blago's phantom victory in Champaign County.
