The Flashman series of historical novels is over

Well, I guess I'll never get to read Flashman's adventures fighting on both sides of the U.S. Civil War. Too bad, I was so looking forward to it.

But I can't complain. The series of novel starring Flashman, the British military officer and scoundrel, was excellent, and I enjoyed his many adventures, ranging from his participation in the Charge of the Light Brigage to his survival at the Little Big Horn.

The creator of this series, George MacDonald Fraser, died this week. He was a fantastic writer who could teach and entertain at the same time.

If you haven't ever read or heard of Flashman and you like novels with adventure, humor and astounding historical accuracy, check him out. However, this is not suitable material for fuzzites. Flashy is just a tad politically incorrect.

Here's Fraser's obit from The New York Times.
