The cult of Obama to a foreigner
Why do so many people love U.S. Sen. Barack Obama?
Well, if you're a liberal, he's easy to love. He's the most liberal of the 100 members of the U.S. Senate. He's promising utopia run by government bureaucrats.
But what about other less ideological non-leftists? Why do they love him.
Well, he's smart, well educated, personable, handsome, articulate, sincere and persuasive. But his answers for problems are conventionally liberal. He leans over backwards in the direction of a lot more government, not less
And he's not exactly born of another Virgin Mary. He's the product of the tawdry politics of the Chicago Machine, and he's no stranger to the back-scratching that exemplifies how Chicago pols exchange favors. A corrupt businessman currently under indictment, Tony Rezko, joined with Obama in a bizarre venture to underwrite the cost of Obama's mega-expensive house.
Strangely, none of that seems to matter to those enthralled by the stirring vagueness of his speeches.
That's why so many political reporters are writing about the Obama phenomenon, including this one from Australia.
