High gasoline prices hurt...

Newsweek's Robert Samuelson asks a common-sense question about the American energy situation. With prices through the roof and working families, the families Democrats say they care about most, really hurting because of it, why are we doing nothing to lower the price of oil?
No, he's not referring to brain-dead price controls. He's talking about exploring for energy, pointing out that the U.S. has large, untapped oil reserves purposely put off limits by Congress.
Meanwhile, we're paying billions and billions of dollars to foreign governments to import oil we could be producing ourselves. It makes no sense, at least that's Samuelson's take on the situation. Mine, too.

The Socio-communists in our own government, that insist we can NOT drill for our own oil or expand or build new refineries, are the VERY ones that are "crying" the loudest and accusing oil companies of "gouging" consumers to get their nominal 8%-10% return (on investment).
The RECORD profits are a DIRECT RESULT of RECORD SALES!!! ANY "Econ 101" student could relate that IF thay had not been "brainwashed" into "believing" a legally opereating HEAVILY REGULATED industry is EVIL when in actuallity, they are a business that wants to provide a product for a reasonable profit. IT IS THE "SPECIAL INTERESTS" THAT ARE EVIL, THAT KEEP AMERICAN COMPANIES FROM ACQUIRING OUR OWN OIL IN OUR OWN KNOWN OIL RESERVES!!
Here are some comments from Thomas Sowel, a learned economist that should be shouted from the rooftops (Posted in "The Patriot Post" number 08-21 "Breif" :
Supply and demand will never replace need and greed in political discussions of economic issues. ... One of the many ironies of politics is that those politicians who do the most to reduce supply often express the greatest outrage about high prices. So long as the voters buy it, the politicians will keep selling it. Make a list of those politicians who do the most to prevent our drilling for our own oil. Then make a list of those politicians who express the most outrage about the high price of gasoline. Dont be surprised if you see the same names on both lists. Make a list of those politicians who most loudly lament the lack of affordable housing. Then make a list of those politicians who have most consistently promoted restrictions on the building of housing, under the banner of open space laws, farmland protection policies, preventing urban sprawl, and other politically soothing phrases. Again, do not be surprised at seeing the same folks on both lists... So long as voters prefer heroes and villains to supply and demand, this game will continue to be played. Thomas Sowell
The Socio-communists NEED the high cost of fuel to furthur their "agenda" to take over the oil companies with "price controls" which will DECREASE supply and therefore create GAS LINES, SHORT SUPPLY, AND EVENTUALLY RATIONING!! DOES ANYONE REMEMBER THE 70'S WITH JIMMA CAATAH, THE "MISERY INDEX", THE LOOOOOOOONG GAS LINES AT THE STATION WHICH RAN OUT OF FUEL JUST AS YOU GOT TO THE PUMP (BECAUSE THEY USED UP THEIR "ALLOTMENT" FOR THE WEEK)??!! They will then "nationalize" the oil industry and run it into the mess our schools are in, BAD PRODUCT, BAD SERVICE, AND ALWAYS COSTING MORE!!!!!
EVERY time the oil companies have "record profits" the Dumocrats conduct another "investigation", IF oil companies are SOOOOOO evil, WHY have they NOT been PROSECUTED instead of constantly being PERSECUTED???!!
DIDN'T NANCY PELOSI GAIN THE SPEAKER'S (OF THE HOUSE) POPSITION ON THE PROMISE OF LOWERING FUEL PRICES (FROM $2.50/GAL)!!! WE BETTER TELL HER "IT DIDN'T WORK" AND KICK HER OUT!!!!!!
GOD BLESS AMERICA and please protect us from socio-communists that would destroy our great country!!

Again FReRydr, you're an idiot. There is plenty of oil, plenty of gas supply. Sure there's a bottleneck as far as refining capacity is concerned but the oil companies like it that way. They can create "scarcity" and make more by producing less. The only people to screw things up are the ones who keep de-regulating the energy industry, give them enormous tax breaks and don't enforce anti-trust laws. Those people are Republicans in general, neocons specifically.
I guess you are too dim and mis-informed to get that. Go back to your right-wing bed-wetter conspiracy sites.
