Every week during the prep football season, IlliniHQ will give a wrap-up of how Illini commits and targets fared during the previous weekend's games. Here are a few highlights from week 2.
THE COMMITS
AARON BAILEY and Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School beat Romeoville (Ill.) High School 46-10 on Friday night. The senior dual-threat quarterback had 129 totals yards in the win and two touchdowns to lead the state-ranked Raiders to an easy road win. He came through with a 63-yard touchdown run and threw a 3-yard touchdown pass. He added a 29-yard run to set up another Bolingbrook touchdown. Bailey, one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation, committed to Illinois in April and has led Bolingbrook, last year's Class 8A state champions in Illinois, to a 2-0 start. Bolingbrook plays at Joliet Central at 2 p.m. this Saturday.
JESSE CHADWELL, a senior offensive lineman out of Clarkston High School in Clarkston, Mich., and his Wolves beat West Bloomfield (Mich.) 34-7 on Thursday night. Chadwell committed to Illinois in March. Clarkston hosts Rochester (Mich.) this Friday night and will try to move to 3-0 on the season.
JARROD CLEMENTS and REON DAWSON of Trotwood-Madison High School (Ohio) helped lead the Rams romp to a 64-0 home win against Dunbar High School out of Dayton, Ohio, on Friday night. Clements, a senior defensive end, committed to Illinois on May 1, with Dawson, a senior athlete, following later that month with a commitment on May 26. Trotwood-Madison, which improved to 1-2 with Friday's win, plays at Wayne High School in Huber Heights, Ohio, this Thursday.
CALEB DAY, a senior athlete from Hilliard, Ohio and his Darby High School squad defeated rival Davidson for a 17-3 road win on Friday night. Day rushed for both of Darby's touchdowns, with his 5-yard run giving Darby a 7-3 lead in the second quarter and his 50-yard scamper putting Darby up 14-3 in the third quarter. He finished with 94 rushing yards and had a 43-yard kickoff return as well. Day committed in mid-June. Darby, sitting at 2-0, hosts St. John's Jesuit out of Toledo, Ohio, this Friday night.
CHRISTIAN DiLAURO, Green High School in Uniontown, Ohio, beat Jackson High School from Massillion, Ohio, 26-10 on Friday night. DiLauro, a senior tight end, came up with an 8-yard touchdown catch to give the Bulldogs a 10-3 lead early. Green improved to 1-1 with the victory. DiLauro, who committed to Illinois in mid-April, and Green play Kenmore (Ohio) High School this Friday night.
BRYCE DOUGLAS and Plainfield Central (Ill.) High School beat St. Charles North (Ill.) High School 14-7 on Friday night. Douglas, a defensive lineman, committed in June. Douglas was the lead blocker on both of Plainfield Central's touchdown runs near the goal line. He also had a 56-yard punt and had one that landed out of bounds at St. Charles North's 5-yard line with two minutes left in the game. Plainfield Central, now 2-0, hosts Romeoville this Friday night.
KENDRICK FOSTER, a senior running back from Peoria Richwoods (Ill.) High School, rushed for 64 yards in the Knights' 24-14 loss on a rainy Friday night at home to Washington (Ill.) High School. Foster, who committed to Illinois in mid-April, and the Knights return to the field this Friday night for a home game against Rock Island Alleman (Ill.) High School in an attempt to improve to 2-1.
MICHAEL HERMOSILLO, a senior running back at Ottawa (Ill.) High School, had 149 rushing yards on nine carries in the Pirates' easy 51-3 win on Friday night against Chicago Steinmetz High School. He rushed for two touchdowns and also threw a 33-yard touchdown pass on a halfback pass. Hermosillo, who will take to the field at 7 p.m. this Friday at nearby rival Streator (Ill.) High School, committed to Illinois in mid-August. He has 500 rushing yards on 18 carries so far this season.
MERRICK JACKSON and Belleville Althoff Catholic (Ill.) High School lost 35-0 to Belleville West (Ill.) High School on Friday night. The senior defensive tackle committed to Illinois in late April. Jackson and the Crusaders will try to improve to 2-1 when they play at Mascoutah (Ill.) High School this Friday.
JOSHUA JONES, a senior defensive back from Walled Lake, Mich., helped Western High School to a 45-0 win against South Lyon East (Mich.) High School on Thursday night to give the Warriors a 1-1 record. Jones, who committed in late June, returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown against East quarterback Cam Thomas, a Division I prospect. Western High returns to the field this Friday at White Lake Lakeland (Mich.) High School.
DARWYN KELLY, a senior defensive back from H.D. Woodson High School in Washington, D.C., and his Warriors lost their season opener 62-20 at Martinsburg (W. Va) High School on Friday night. Kelly committed to Illinois in early August. Woodson returns to the field at 2 p.m. on Saturday at St. Edward (Ohio) High School.
DARIUS MOSELY and O'Fallon (Ill.) High School had the weekend off after the Panthers' scheduled opponent, St. Louis College Prep out of Madison, Mo., forfeited. Mosely, a senior cornerback who committed in late June and had a 41-yard punt in O'Fallon's season-opening win against Cahokia, will get back to the field this Friday at Belleville West. Both squads are 2-0.
AUSTIN SCHMIDT, a senior offensive lineman from Galena, Ohio, who plays at Olentangy (Ohio) High School in Lewis Center, Ohio, helped the Braves improve to 2-0 on the season after a 28-16 win on Friday night against Olentangy (Ohio) Liberty High School. The Braves get back in action against Liberty (Ohio) High School this Friday night. Schmidt committed to Illinois in early May.
DAWUANE SMOOT, a senior defensive end from Groveport Madison High School in Groveport, Ohio, and the Cruisers lost 35-10 to Olentangy Orange (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Groveport-Madison fell to 0-2 with the loss, and will play this Friday night at Walnut Ridge (Ohio) High School. Smoot committed to Illinois in late June.
REGGIE SPEARMAN, a senior linebacker from Chicago Simeon, helped the Wolverines pick up their first win of the season in a 34-0 victory against Peoria Central (Ill.) High School on Sunday at East St. Louis' Jordan Stadium. Spearman and the Simeon defense limited Peoria Central to 122 yards of offense, including only 21 in the second half. Spearman, who committed in late August, and Simeon will look to make it two wins in a row this Friday night against Chicago Morgan Park at Chicago's Gately Stadium.
THE TARGETS
JOHN ARMSTRONG
The senior running back from Olympia (Fla.) High School helped boost the Titans to a season-opening 38-23 win on Friday night against Edgewater (Fla.) High School. He rushed for two touchdowns, from 6 and 5 yards out, in the second quarter to build Olympia's lead to 24-0. Olympia will host Dr. Phillips (Fla.) High School this Friday night.
Armstrong, a speedster who is projected as possibly a slot wide receiver in college, has offers from a handful of mid-majors, but Illinois, Duke and Wake Forest appear to be his favorites.
JOSH AUGUSTA
The senior defensive tackle from Peoria Central (Ill.) High School and his Lions suffered a 34-0 loss to Chicago Simeon on Sunday in East St. Louis. Peoria Central, now 1-1, returns to the field this Friday night at Galesburg.
Augusta has offers from multiple high-major programs, but it seems his recruitment will come down to Illinois, Michigan State and Missouri.
JOSH CAZLEY
The junior running back and defensive back from Charleston (Ill.) High School, had 76 rushing yards on eight carries and four touchdowns in Charleston's 49-0 win on Saturday against Peoria Manual at Peoria Stadium. Cazley also caught two passes for 32 yards. Cazley, whose older brother, Dillan, is an Illinois Class of 2013 commit as a defensive back but is still out with a broken left ankle, and Charleston, now 2-0, will host Chatham-Glenwood (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.
DALYN DAWKINS
The senior running back from Trinity (Ky.) had this past Friday night off as the Shamrocks had a bye week. Trinity will return to the field on Friday at home against Cincinnati's Elder High School. Trinity is 2-0 heading into the game.
Dawkins has offers from Illinois, Cincinnati, Colorado State, Purdue and Western Kentucky.
CLIFTON GARRETT
The junior linebacker from Plainfield South (Ill.) High School, helped the Cougars beat Joliet West 31-27 on Friday night. Plainfield South, now 1-1, plays at Plainfield North (Ill.) High School this Friday night.
Garrett has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Purdue and Wisconsin.
LAQUON TREADWELL
The senior wide receiver from Crete-Monee (Ill.) High School, and the nation's top wide receiver prospect, played a key role in the Warriors' 30-7 win on Friday night against Marian Catholic (Ill.) High School. He had 88 receiving yards, including a 41-yard touchdown catch, but that wasn't all. He also had two interceptions on defense, kicked two extra points and caught a pass for a two-point conversion.
Treadwell and Crete-Monee will host Moline (Ill.) High School this Friday night.
Treadwell has offers from nearly every high-major program in the country, including Illinois, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Oklahoma, among others.
