Spearman de-commits, picks Iowa

Illinois lost its only linebacker commit in the Class of 2013.

In a move that wasn't too unexpected, Chicago Simeon senior Reggie Spearman, who verbally committed to Illinois on Aug. 7, decided he would attend Iowa during a ceremony at Simeon on Tuesday night.

Tim Beckman’s class is now down to 25 players as National Signing Day approaches on Wednesday, and Illinois does not have a player who specializes at linebacker.

Spearman picked the Hawkeyes over Illinois, Minnesota and Syracuse. His decision only leaves Illinois with three players from the Chicagoland area — quarterback Aaron Bailey from Bolingbrook, defensive tackle Bryce Douglas from Plainfield Central and defensive back Jaylen Dunlap from Crete-Monee — in this year’s recruiting class.

Who cares???

Any program that still wanted to recruit a kid like this after all of his stupid antics is asking for problems.

Chicago Public League football - - - - no freshman team - no sophomore team - no JV team - very little coaching or equipment or facilities  - - no park district feeder system - - no wins in out of conference games or state playoffs - - - rosters usually have 25 or so players (so - no competition). Iowa will love this kid!!!!
