McDonald's All-American game primer

Hundreds of media types, players, coaches and key figures on the high school basketball landscape filled the second level of the United Center on Tuesday afternoon.

The occasion? Media day for the McDonald’s All-American game.

For any Illinois fans wanting to watch any future players John Groce will have at his disposal next year, sorry, you’re out of luck.

No Illinois recruits will play the premier high school basketball all-star game for the third straight year.

But who’s to say you won’t turn to ESPN tonight for the 8:30 tip at the United Center in Chicago.

Need an Illinois angle? We’ve got one. Although it’s a stretch.

Mike Flaherty, the high school coach of Tracy Abrams at Chicago Mt. Carmel, will coach the West squad that features the lone Illinois prep player, Jabari Parker of Chicago Simeon.

Parker, of course, was teammates this past winter with Illinois signees Kendrick Nunn and Jaylon Tate.

And yes, we realize this is a stretch.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the 25 players who will take part in the game.
