Weekend Wrap — McGrew leads Blue Valley in rout

Every week during the football season, Illinois football beat writer MATT DANIELS will give a wrap-up of how Illini commits and targets fared during the previous weekend’s games.

Here are a few notes from Week 6.



THE COMMITS

NICK ALLEGRETTI, a center at Lincoln-Way East (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on March 11, and the Griffins lost 24-21 at Homewood-Flossmoor (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Allegretti and Lincoln-Way East (4-1) play at Joliet (Ill.) West High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday.

GERONIMO ALLISON, a wide receiver at Iowa Western Community College who committed to Illinois on July 25, and the Reivers lost 48-38 at Georgia Military College on Saturday afternoon to end the program's 18-game winning streak. Allison had six catches for 110 yards. Allison and the Reivers (5-1) get back in action at 1 p.m. this Saturday at Arkansas Baptist.

CHAYCE CROUCH, a senior quarterback at Newark (Ohio) Catholic High School who committed to Illinois on May 2, and the Green Wave beat Watkins Memorial (Ohio) High School 34-14 on Friday night at home. Crouch ran for 92 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown run, and passed for 79 more. He also forced a fumble. Crouch and the Green Wave (4-1) resume play this Saturday night at home against Heath (Ohio) High School.

MATT DOMER, a senior running back at Chicago Mt. Carmel High School who committed to Illinois on July 2, and the Caravan won 24-3 at Chicago St. Rita on Friday night. Domer rushed for 166 yards on 15 carries and scored all three touchdowns in the game on runs of 9, 50 and 60 yards. Domer and the Caravan (5-0) play at 1:30 p.m. this Saturday at Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola Academy.

MIKE DUDEK, a senior wide receiver at Naperville (Ill.) Neuqua Valley High School who committed to Illinois on April 3, and the Wildcats won 52-6 at East Aurora (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Dudek caught a 25-yard touchdown pass and ran for a 37-yard touchdown. Dudek and the Wildcats (4-1) will host Aurora (Ill.) Metea Valley High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

JULIAN HYLTON, a senior athlete at Lincoln-Way North (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on July 9 and is projected to play cornerback at Illinois, and the Phoenix beat Harvey (Ill.) Thornton High School 30-12 at home on Friday night. Hylton rushed for 259 yards on 39 carries and two touchdowns. Hylton and the Phoenix (5-0) will play at Lincoln-Way Central (Ill.) High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

HENRY McGREW, a senior linebacker at Blue Valley (Kan.) High School who committed to Illinois on June 18, and the Tigers won 56-10 at Blue Valley (Kan.) North High School on Friday night. McGrew had 11 tackles in the convincing win. McGrew and the Tigers (3-1) will host Blue Valley (Kan.) Northwest High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.

TITO ODENIGBO, a senior defensive lineman at Centerville (Ohio) High School who committed to Illinois on March 11, and the Elks won 38-37 on Friday night at Naples (Fla.) High School. Odenigbo had five tackles in the win. Odenigbo and the Elks (5-0) will host Kettering (Ohio) Fairmont High School this Friday night.

AUSTIN ROBERTS, a senior linebacker from Rice Lake (Wis.) High School who committed to Illinois on June 13, and the Warriors lost 14-0 to Menomonie (Wis.) High School at home on Friday night. Rice Lake (3-3) will play at Chippewa Falls (Wis.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday, but the Warriors are without the services of Roberts for the rest of the season after the linebacker tore the ACL in his left knee on Sept. 6.

MALIK TURNER, a senior wide receiver from Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart-Griffin High School who committed to Illinois on June 24, and the Cyclones won 65-14 at Jacksonville (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Turner caught six passes for 108 yards, including touchdown grabs of 15 and 2 yards. He added a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown. Turner and the Cyclones (4-1) will host Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven High School at noon this Saturday.

THE TARGETS
TRENTON BALL, a senior tight end from Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert High School, and the Titans beat Deer Creek (Okla.) High School 42-24 on Friday night at home. Ball, who has an offer from Illinois and interest from Indiana, Kansas State, Missouri and Purdue, and the Titans (3-1) will play at Oklahoma City Bishop McGuinness High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.

KEI BECKHAM, a junior cornerback from Trotwood-Madison (Ohio) High School, and the Rams beat West Carrollton (Ohio) High School 67-19 on Friday night at home. Beckham, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Central Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky and Western Michigan, and the Rams (2-1 before the game) will host Piqua (Ohio) High School this Friday night. 


TERRY BECKNER JR., a junior defensive end from East St. Louis (Ill.) High School, and the Flyers won 52-3 at Belleville (Ill.) East High School on Saturday afternoon. Beckner, who has offers from Illinois, Cincinnati, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio State, Purdue, Syracuse and Tennessee, and the Flyers (2-3) will host Granite City (Ill.) High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday.

JACK BENEVENTI, a junior quarterback at Benet (Ill.) Academy, and the Redwings won 40-7 at Chicago Heights (Ill.) Marian Catholic on Friday night. Beneventi completed 13 of 21 passes for 156 yards. Beneventi, who has offers from Illinois, Iowa, Louisville, Massachusetts, Notre Dame and Western Michigan, and Benet (5-0) will host Arlington Heights (Ill.) St. Viator High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Benedictine University. 


BRENNAN BOSCH, a junior guard from St. Charles (Ill.) East High School, and the Fighting Saints beat Elgin (Ill.) High School 42-16 on Friday night at home. Bosch, who has an offer from Illinois and interest from Minnesota, and the Fighting Saints (4-1) play at Geneva (Ill.) High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

MILES BOYKIN, a junior wide receiver at New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic High School, and the Celtics beat Chicago Gordon Tech High School 42-0 on Friday night at home. Boykin had two catches for 22 yards, with both of his receptions resulting in touchdowns. Boykin, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Mississippi and Western Michigan, along with interest from Iowa, LSU, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State and Vanderbilt, and the Celtics (3-2) will host Chicago St. Rita High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday. 



DRE BROWN, a junior running back at DeKalb (Ill.) High School, and the Barbs won 42-14 at Streator (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Brown rushed for three touchdowns in the win. Brown, who has offers from Illinois, Kent State, Northern Illinois and Toledo, and the Barbs (3-2) will host Maple Park (Ill.) Kaneland High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

JAMES BUTLER, a senior running back at Wheaton (Ill.) St. Francis High School, and the Spartans lost 24-14 at home to Aurora (Ill.) Christian School on Friday night. Butler rushed for 44 yards on 14 carries. Butler, who has interest from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Purdue, along with offers from Nevada and Temple, and the Spartans (3-2) will play at Woodstock (Ill.) Marian Catholic High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.

JB BUTLER, a senior guard from Joliet Catholic (Ill.) Academy, and the Hilltoppers beat Chicago Marist High School 49-27 at home on Friday night. Butler, who has offers from several FCS schools and interest from Illinois, Indiana, Miami (Ohio), North Carolina State, Northern Illinois and Syracuse, and Joliet Catholic (5-0) will host Chicago St. Patrick High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

NICK CONNER, a junior linebacker from Dublin (Ohio) Scioto High School, and the Irish won 41-19 at Westerville (Ohio) North High School on Friday night. Conner rushed for 28 yards on five carries, including two touchdowns, and caught two passes for 88 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown catch. Conner, who has offers from Illinois and Kentucky, along with interest from Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue, and the Irish (3-2) will play at Westerville (Ohio) South High School this Friday night. 


MICAH DEW-TREADWAY, a junior defensive end at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders beat Joliet (Ill.) West High School 30-6 at home on Friday night. Dew-Treadway, who has an offer from Mississippi State and interest from Illinois, Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Mississippi and Texas, and the Raiders (5-0) will host Lockport (Ill.) Township High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday. 


DAVID EDWARDS, a junior quarterback at Downers Grove (Ill.) North High School, and the Trojans lost 17-10 at home on Friday night to LaGrange (Ill.) Lyons Township High School. Edwards threw for 169 yards and rushed for 81 yards, including a 2-yard touchdown run. Edwards, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Syracuse and Vanderbilt, and Downers Grove North (2-3) will play at Downers Grove (Ill.) South High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

JIMMY FITZGERALD, a junior quarterback at Champaign (Ill.) Centennial High School, and the Chargers beat Urbana (Ill.) High School 22-8 on Friday night at home. Fitzgerald completed 20 of 30 passes for 222 yards. Fitzgerald, who has offers from Illinois and Yale, along with interest from Duke, Indiana, North Carolina and others, and Centennial (2-3) will play at Bloomington (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday. 


JEFF GEORGE JR., a senior quarterback at Warren Central (Ind.) High School, and the Warriors lost 38-28 to Indianapolis Pike High School at home on Friday night. George threw three touchdown passes in the loss. George, who has a grayshirt scholarship offer from Illinois and interest from Akron, Cincinnati, Indiana, Louisville and Purdue, and the Warriors (4-2) will play at Carmel (Ind.) High School this Friday night.

DARRIN HALL, a junior running back at Austintown (Ohio) Fitch High School, and the Falcons won 20-0 at Boardman (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Hall rushed for 95 yards on 17 carries, including a 19-yard touchdown run. Hall, who has offers from Illinois, Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan State, Nebraska and Purdue, and the Falcons (5-0) will host Youngstown (Ohio) East High School this Friday night.

KRAIG HOWE, a junior defensive tackle from Kettering (Ohio) Archbishop Alter High School, and the Knights beat Purcell Marian (Ohio) High School 24-7 on Friday night. Howe had four tackles, including one for loss. Howe, who has offers from Illinois and Pittsburgh, along with interest from Arkansas, Duke, Indiana, Iowa, Northwestern, Ohio State and Toledo, and the Knights (4-1) will play at Badin (Ohio) High School this Friday night.

ADOREE' JACKSON, a senior cornerback and wide receiver at Junipero Serra (Calif.) High School, and the Cavaliers won 36-13 at Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne High School on Friday night. Jackson had 78 rushing yards on eight carries and returned an interception 102 yards for a touchdown. Jackson, who has offers from Illinois, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA and USC, and the Cavaliers (5-0) are off this weekend before playing at Studio City (Calif.) Harvard-Westlake High School on Oct. 11.

RODERICK JOHNSON, a senior offensive tackle from Hazelwood (Mo.) Central High School, and the Hawks beat Ritenour (Mo.) High School 42-27 on Saturday afternoon at home. Johnson, who has offers from Illinois, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas State, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Wisconsin, and the Hawks (5-0) will host Pattonville (Mo.) High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday.

DARRIN KIRKLAND, a junior linebacker at Lawrence Central (Ind.) High School, and the Bears lost 42-12 at Ben Davis (Ind.) High School on Friday night. Kirkland, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Indiana, Louisville and Toledo, and the Bears (3-3) will play at Cleveland St. Ignatius High School this Friday night. 



KENNY JONES, a senior wide receiver at Lawrence Central (Ind.) High School, and the Bears lost 42-12 at Ben Davis (Ind.) High School on Friday night. Jones, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State and Louisville, and the Bears (3-3) will play at Cleveland St. Ignatius High School this Friday night. 



SIMEON LANE, a junior defensive tackle from Cincinnati St. Xavier High School, and the Bombers lost 20-17 in overtime at Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller High School on Friday night. Lane had three tackles. Lane, who has an offer from Illinois and interest from Boston College, Minnesota and Northwestern, and the Bombers (3-2) will host Cincinnati Elder High School this Friday night.

HUNTER LITTLEJOHN, a junior guard at Olentangy (Ohio) Liberty High School, and the Patriots won 16-8 at Upper Arlington (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Littlejohn, who has offers from Illinois, Boston College and Indiana, and the Patriots (3-2) will play at Marysville (Ohio) High School this Friday night.

TRAVIS LOCK, a running back at Nassau (N.Y.) Community College, and the Lions won 32-13 at Lackawanna (Pa.) College on Saturday. Lock, who has offers from Illinois, Arizona State and South Florida, and the Lions (5-0) will host Hudson Valley (N.Y.) Community College this Friday night.

MADRE LONDON, a senior running back at St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) High School, and the Raiders beat Davie (Fla.) Nova High School 58-6 on Friday night at home. London, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Virginia and Wisconsin, and the Raiders (3-1) will play at South Hollywood (Fla.) South Broward High School this Friday night. 


ANTHONY McKEE, a junior linebacker at Walnut Ridge (Ohio) High School, and the Scots lost 22-7 at Marion-Franklin (Ohio) High School on Thursday night. McKee, who has offers from llinois, Arkansas, Boston College, Bowling Green, Kentucky, Tennessee, Toledo and West Virginia, and the Scots (3-2) host Columbus (Ohio) West High School this Friday night. 


GABE MEGGINSON, a junior offensive tackle at Jacksonville (Ill.) High School, and the Crimsons lost 65-14 at home to Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart-Griffin on Friday night at home. Megginson, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Indiana, Northern Illinois and Wisconsin, and the Crimsons (3-2) will host Springfield (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday. 


KENTRAIL MORAN, a sophomore running back at O'Fallon (Ill.) High School, and the Panthers lost 55-38 Belleville (Ill.) West High School at home on Saturday afternoon. Moran fumbled twice in the loss. Moran, who has an offer from Illinois and Northern Illinois along with interest from Alabama, Cincinnati, Florida, Indiana, Iowa and Tennessee, and O'Fallon (3-1 before the game) will play at Collinsville (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.



FLYNN NAGEL, a junior wide receiver at Chicago Marist High School, and the RedHawks lost 49-27 at Joliet (Ill.) Catholic Academy on Friday night. Nagel, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana and Northern Illinois, along with interest from Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Vanderbilt and Western Michigan, and the RedHawks (3-2) will host Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

QUINN OSELAND, a junior offensive tackle at Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, and the Cyclones won 65-14 at Jacksonville (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Oseland, who has interest from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin, and the Cyclones (4-1) will host Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven High School at noon this Saturday.

MARTESSE PATTERSON, a senior guard from Marion-Franklin (Ohio) High School, and the Red Devils beat Walnut Ridge (Ohio) High School 22-7 at home on Thursday night. Patterson, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Purdue and Toledo, and the Red Devils (4-1) will play at Columbus (Ohio) Africentric Secondary School this Friday night.

AARON ROBERTS, a senior guard from Chicago De La Salle, and the Meteors beat Westchester (Ill.) St. Joseph High School 42-7 on Friday night at home. Roberts, who has offers from Illinois, Ball State, New Mexico and Syracuse, and De La Salle (4-1) play at Burbank (Ill.) St. Laurence High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

LEONARD ROSS, a junior running back at LaGrange (Ill.) Lyons Twp. High School, and the Lions won 17-10 on Friday night at Downers Grove (Ill.) North High School. Ross, who holds an offer from Illinois and interest from Ball State, Indiana, Minnesota, Western Michigan and Wisconsin, and the Lions (2-3) play at Hinsdale (Ill.) Central at noon this Saturday.

ANTONIO SHENAULT, a junior cornerback at Lake Park (Ill.) High School, and the Lancers lost 42-17 at home to Wheaton (Ill.) North on Friday night. Shenault, who has an offer from Northern Illinois and interest from Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Northwestern, and the Lancers (1-4) will play at Naperville (Ill.) North High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

NATEREACE STRONG, a junior running back from East St. Louis (Ill.) High School, and the Flyers won 52-3 at Belleville (Ill.) East High School on Saturday afternoon. Strong scored on touchdown runs of 80 and 10 yards. Strong, who has offers from Illinois, Florida State, Kansas, Michigan State, Missouri and Ohio State, and the Flyers (1-3 before the game) will host Granite City (Ill.) High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday.

NILE SYKES, a senior linebacker at Lombard Montini (Ill.) High School, and the Broncos won 27-3 at Aurora (Ill.) Marmion Academy on Friday night. Sykes forced a fumble in the win. Sykes, who has offers from Illinois, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, Iowa State, Missouri, Northern Illinois, Purdue, Syracuse, Toledo and Western Michigan, and the Broncos (5-0) will host Elmhurst (Ill.) Immaculate Conception High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday. 



ELIJAH TAYLOR, a junior defensive end from Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller High School, and the Fighting Crusaders beat St. Xavier (Ohio) High School 20-17 in overtime on Friday night at home. Taylor had 3.5 tackles in the win. Taylor, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Ohio and West Virginia, and the Fighting Crusaders (5-0) will host St. Xavier (Ohio) High School this Friday night.

PARRKER WESTPHAL, a senior cornerback at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders beat Joliet (Ill.) West High School 30-6 at home on Friday night.  Westphal had an interception in the win. Westphal, who holds multiple offers, has narrowed his list down to Arizona State, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State and Vanderbilt. Bolingbrook (5-0) will host Lockport (Ill.) Township High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday. 


RENELL WREN, a senior defensive end from Lutheran North (Mo.) High School, and the Crusaders beat Lutheran North (Mo.) High School 44-33 on Saturday afternoon at home. Wren, who has offers from Illinois, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Kansas, Memphis, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Purdue and Toledo, but has narrowed his top five down to Illinois, Purdue, Arizona State, Mississippi State and Michigan State, and the Crusaders (1-4) will play at Priory (Mo.) High School at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday.

Hope we are focusing on offensive and defensive lineman.  Maybe have to go the JUCO route again next year.
