Weekend Wrap — Roberts stars, but then suffers injury

Every week during the football season, Illinois football beat writer MATT DANIELS will give a wrap-up of how Illini commits and targets fared during the previous weekend’s games.

Here are a few notes from Week 3.



THE COMMITS

NICK ALLEGRETTI, a center at Lincoln-Way East (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on March 11, and the Griffins beat Lincoln-Way Central (Ill.) High School 17-12 at home on Friday night. Allegretti and Lincoln-Way East (2-0) get back in action at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at home against Palos Hill (Ill.) Stagg High School. 

GERONIMO ALLISON, a wide receiver at Iowa Western Community College who committed to Illinois on July 25, and the Reivers continued their perfect start with a 61-0 win on Saturday at Ellsworth (Iowa) Community College. Allison hauled in five catches for 64 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown grab. Allison and Iowa Western (3-0) resume play this Saturday afternoon at North Dakota State College of Science.

CHAYCE CROUCH, a senior quarterback at Newark (Ohio) Catholic High School who committed to Illinois on May 2, and the Green Wave won 34-16 on Saturday night at home against Nelsonville-York (Ohio) High School. Crouch completed 11 of 16 passes for 152 yards, including a touchdown pass of 28 yards and added a 5-yard rushing touchdown. Crouch and the Green Wave (1-1) will host Fisher Catholic (Ohio) High School this Friday night.

MATT DOMER, a senior running back at Chicago Mt. Carmel High School who committed to Illinois on July 2, and the Caravan beat Chicago Morgan Park 49-8 on Friday night at Gately Stadium in Chicago. Domer scored on a 9-yard touchdown run in the win. Domer and the Caravan (2-0) will host Kankakee (Ill.) Bishop McNamara at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Gately Stadium.

MIKE DUDEK, a senior wide receiver at Naperville (Ill.) Neuqua Valley High School who committed to Illinois on April 3, and the Wildcats lost 58-35 at Naperville (Ill.) Central High School on Friday night. Dudek caught 12 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown and added 49 rushing yards and a touchdown. Dudek and Neuqua Valley (1-1) return to the field at 7:30 p.m. this Friday in a home game against South Elgin (Ill.) High School. 



JULIAN HYLTON, a senior athlete at Lincoln-Way North (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on July 9 and is projected to play cornerback at Illinois, and the Phoenix beat Hillcrest (Ill.) High School 37-0 at home on Friday night. Hylton rushed for 215 yards and scored four touchdowns on runs of 2, 29, 31 and 72 yards while also recovering a fumble. Hylton and Lincoln-Way North (2-0) host Tinley Park (Ill.) Andrew High School at 7:15 p.m. this Friday.

HENRY McGREW, a senior linebacker at Blue Valley (Kan.) High School who committed to Illinois on June 18, and the Tigers opened the season with a 28-0 home win against Gardner-Edgerton (Kan.) High School on Friday night. McGrew had nine tackles in the win, including a sack and another tackle for loss despite playing with an ankle injury suffered midway through the first quarter. McGrew and Blue Valley (1-0) will host Bishop Miege (Kan.) High School this Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

TITO ODENIGBO, a senior defensive lineman at Centerville (Ohio) High School who committed to Illinois on March 11, and the Elks won 63-20 at Springboro (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Odenigbo had three tackles, including two sacks. Odenigbo and the Elks (2-0) play at Withrow (Ohio) this Friday night.

AUSTIN ROBERTS, a senior linebacker from Rice Lake (Wis.) High School who committed to Illinois on June 13, and the Warriors lost 28-21 in overtime at Hudson (Wis.) High School on Friday night. Roberts had 16 tackles, including 1.5 for loss, and added 17 receiving yards before he suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter. Roberts and Rice Lake (2-1) host Eau Claire (Wis.) North High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.

MALIK TURNER, a senior wide receiver from Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart-Griffin High School who committed to Illinois on June 24, and the Cyclones lost 38-33 at Rochester (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Turner posted his second straight 100-plus receiving yard output, hauling in 10 passes for 166 yards. Turner and the Cyclones (1-1) host Springfield (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.

THE TARGETS

KEI BECKHAM, a junior cornerback from Trotwood-Madison (Ohio) High School, and the Rams lost 35-21 to Wayne (Ohio) High School on Friday night at home. Beckham had four tackles and an interception in the loss. Beckham, who has offers from Illinois, Central Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky and Western Michigan, and the Rams (1-1) are off this Friday before playing at Kettering (Ohio) Fairmont High School on Sept. 20.



TERRY BECKNER JR., a junior defensive end from East St. Louis (Ill.) High School, and the Flyers lost 34-6 at home on Saturday night to Lombard (Ill.) Montini High School. Beckner, who has offers from Illinois, Cincinnati, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio State, Purdue, Syracuse and Tennessee, and the Flyers (1-1) will play at Edwardsville (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.

JACK BENEVENTI, a junior quarterback at Benet (Ill.) Academy, and the Redwings beat South Elgin (Ill.) High School 41-12 on Friday night at Benedictine University in Lisle. Beneventi was 16 of 29 for 221 yards and a touchdown. Beneventi, who has offers from Illinois, Iowa, Louisville, Massachusetts, Notre Dame and Western Michigan, and Benet (2-0) resume play at 7:30 p.m. this Friday night against Chicago St. Patrick at Benedictine University.



BRENNAN BOSCH, a junior guard from St. Charles (Ill.) East High School, and the Fighting Saints beat Jacobs (Ill.) High School 41-26 at home on Friday night. Bosch, who has an offer from Illinois and interest from Minnesota, and the Fighting Saints (2-0) host St. Charles (Ill.) North at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

MILES BOYKIN, a junior wide receiver at New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic High School, and the Celtics won 28-7 at Minooka (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Boykin caught a 37-yard touchdown pass in the win. Boykin, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Mississippi and Western Michigan, along with interest from Iowa, LSU, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State and Vanderbilt, and the Celtics (1-1) will host Chicago De La Salle at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.



DRE BROWN, a junior running back at DeKalb (Ill.) High School, and the Barbs lost 35-34 at Hampshire (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Brown had a 59-yard touchdown run in the victory. Brown, who has offers from Illinois, Kent State, Northern Illinois and Toledo, and the Barbs (1-1) play Sycamore (Ill.) High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Northern Illinois' Huskie Stadium.

JB BUTLER, a senior guard from Joliet Catholic (Ill.) Academy, and the Hilltoppers won 49-7 at St. Thomas (Minn.) Academy in Mendota Heights, Minn., on Saturday afternoon. Butler, who has offers from several FCS schools and interest from Illinois, Indiana, Miami (Ohio), North Carolina State, Northern Illinois and Syracuse, and Joliet Catholic (2-0) will host Arlington Heights (Ill.) St. Viator High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday. 



NICK CONNER, a junior linebacker from Dublin (Ohio) Scioto High School, and the Irish won 30-17 at Dublin (Ohio) Coffman High School on Friday night. Conner had a 65-yard fumble recovery returned for a touchdown and added an interception. Conner, who has offers from Illinois and Kentucky, along with interest from Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue, and the Irish (2-0) play at Marysville (Ohio) High School this Friday night.  



MICAH DEW-TREADWAY, a junior defensive end at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders beat Romeoville (Ill.) High School 41-7 on Friday night at home. Dew-Treadway, who has an offer from Mississippi State and interest from Illinois, Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Mississippi and Texas, and the Raiders (2-0) host Joliet (Ill.) Central High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.



DAVID EDWARDS, a junior quarterback at Downers Grove (Ill.) North High School, and the Trojans beat Hinsdale South (Ill.) High School 28-0 at home on Friday night. Edwards rushed for touchdowns on 1 and 4 yards while adding a 36-yard touchdown pass. Edwards, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana and Vanderbilt, and Downers Grove North (2-0) hosts Glenbard West (Ill.) High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.



JIMMY FITZGERALD, a junior quarterback at Champaign (Ill.) Centennial High School, and the Chargers lost 38-8 at Decatur (Ill.) MacArthur High School on Friday night. Fitzgerald was 17 of 35 for 150 yards, one touchdown and one interception while adding 54 rushing yards on 17 carries. Fitzgerald, who has offers from Illinois and Yale, along with interest from Duke, Indiana, North Carolina and others, and Centennial (1-1) resume play at 7 p.m. this Friday at Danville (Ill.) High School.



JEFF GEORGE JR., a senior quarterback at Warren Central (Ind.) High School, and the Warriors won 54-14 at Lawrence North (Ind.) High School on Friday night. George, who has a grayshirt scholarship offer from Illinois and interest from Akron, Cincinnati, Indiana, Louisville and Purdue, and the Warriors (2-1) play at Ben Davis (Ind.) High School this Friday night.



DARRIN HALL, a junior running back at Austintown (Ohio) Fitch High School, and the Falcons beat Archbishop Hoban (Ohio) High School 27-12 at home on Friday night. Hall rushed for 210 yards on 27 carries, including a 38-yard touchdown run. Hall, who has offers from Illinois, Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan State, Nebraska and Purdue, and the Falcons (2-0) will play at Brunswick (Ohio) High School this Friday night.



ADOREE' JACKSON, a senior cornerback and wide receiver at Junipero Serra (Calif.) High School, and the Cavaliers won 50-39 at Oceanside (Calif.) High School on Friday night. Jackson rushed for 77 yards on nine carries, including a touchdown, caught 10 passes for 109 yards and made two tackles. Jackson, who has offers from Illinois, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA and USC, and the Cavaliers (2-0) resume play this Friday at home against Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame High School.



RODERICK JOHNSON, a senior offensive tackle from Hazelwood (Mo.) Central High School, and the Hawks won 42-38 at DeSmet (Mo.) High School on Friday night. Johnson, who has offers from Illinois, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas State, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Wisconsin, and the Hawks (2-0) host McCluer North (Mo.) High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday.



KENNY JONES, a senior wide receiver at Lawrence Central (Ind.) High School, and the Bears beat Trinity (Ky.) High School 17-13 on Friday night. Jones, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State and Louisville, and the Bears (3-0) will play Carmel (Ind.) High School this Friday night at Lucas Oil Stadium.



SIMEON LANE, a junior defensive tackle from Cincinnati St. Xavier High School, and the Bombers lost 31-19 at Colerain (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Lane, who has an offer from Illinois and interest from Boston College and Northwestern, and the Bombers (1-1) will host Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy this Friday night.



HUNTER LITTLEJOHN, a junior guard at Olentangy (Ohio) Liberty High School, and the Patriots lost 26-23 at Olentangy (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Littlejohn, who has offers from Illinois, Boston College and Indiana, and the Patriots (1-1) play this Friday night at Uniontown (Ohio) Lake High School.



MADRE LONDON, a senior running back at St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) High School, and the Raiders had the week off. London, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Nebraska and Wisconsin, and the Raiders (1-0) are set to play John Curtis (La.) Christian School this Friday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orelans. 



ANTHONY McKEE, a junior linebacker at Walnut Ridge (Ohio) High School, and the Scots won 28-6 at Groveport-Madison (Ohio) High School on Friday night. McKee, who has offers from Illinois, Arkansas, Boston College, Bowling Green, Kentucky, Tennessee, Toledo and West Virginia, and the Scots (1-1) host Beechcroft (Ohio) High School this Friday night. 



GABE MEGGINSON, a junior offensive tackle at Jacksonville (Ill.) High School, and the Crimsons lost 21-7 at home against Chatham-Glenwood (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Megginson, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Indiana, Northern Illinois and Wisconsin, and the Crimsons (1-1) play at Springfield (Ill.) Lanphier High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.



KENTRAIL MORAN, a sophomore running back at O'Fallon (Ill.) High School, and the Panthers lost 44-20 to Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola Academy 44-20 on Saturday afternoon in East St. Louis. Moran had 113 yards on 22 carries. Moran, who has an offer from Northern Illinois and interest from Illinois, Alabama, Cincinnati, Florida, Indiana, Iowa and Tennessee, and O'Fallon (1-1) host Alton (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.



FLYNN NAGEL, a junior wide receiver at Chicago Marist High School, and the RedHawks beat Chicago Brother Rice 55-14 on Friday night at home. Nagel had three touchdown catches in the win. Nagel, who has offers from Illinois and Indiana, along with interest from Iowa, Michigan, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Ohio State, Vanderbilt and Western Michigan, and the RedHawks (1-1) host LaGrange Park (Ill.) Nazareth Academy at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.



QUINN OSELAND, a junior offensive tackle at Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, and the Cyclones lost 38-33 at Rochester (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Oseland, who has interest from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin, and the Cyclones (1-1) host Springfield (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. on Friday.



MARTESSE PATTERSON, a senior guard from Marion-Franklin (Ohio) High School, and the Red Devils beat Brookhaven (Ohio) High School 27-2 at home on Friday night. Patterson, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Ball State, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Purdue and Toledo, and the Red Devils (2-0) return to the field this Friday night at Bishop Hartley (Ohio) High School.



FRANK RAGNOW, a senior offensive tackle from Chanhassen (Minn.) High School, and the Storm lost 35-21 at home on Friday night to Chaska (Minn.) High School. Ragnow, who has offers from Illinois, Arkansas, California, Florida State, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, South Florida and Vanderbilt, and the Storm (0-2) resume play this Friday night at Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield, Minn.



AARON ROBERTS, a senior guard from Chicago De La Salle, and the Meteors won 28-7 at Chicago Hales Franciscan High School on Saturday night. Roberts, who has offers from Illinois, Ball State, New Mexico and Syracuse, and De La Salle (2-0) play at New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.



LEONARD ROSS, a junior running back at LaGrange (Ill.) Lyons Twp. High School, and the Lions lost 62-49 to Willowbrook (Ill.) High School on Friday night at home. Ross, who holds an offer from Illinois and interest from Ball State, Indiana, Minnesota, Western Michigan and Wisconsin, and the Lions (0-2) play at Leyden (Ill.) High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.



NATEREACE STRONG, a junior running back from East St. Louis (Ill.) High School, and the Flyers lost 34-6 at home against Lombard (Ill.) Montini High School on Saturday night. Strong finished with 28 rushing yards on seven carries. Strong, who has offers from Illinois, Florida State, Kansas, Michigan State, Missouri and Ohio State, and the Flyers (1-1) will play at Edwardsville (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.



NILE SYKES, a senior linebacker at Lombard Montini (Ill.) High School, and the Broncos won 34-6 at East St. Louis (Ill.) High School on Saturday night. Sykes had an interception in the win. Sykes, who has offers from Illinois, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, Iowa State, Northern Illinois, Purdue, Syracuse, Toledo and Western Michigan, and the Broncos (2-0) will play Wheaton (Ill.) Academy at 7 p.m. this Friday at Wheaton College.



ELIJAH TAYLOR, a junior defensive end from Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller High School, and the Fighting Crusaders won 45-7 at Covington (Ky.) Catholic High School on Saturday. Taylor, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Ohio and West Virginia, and the Fighting Crusaders (2-0) host St. Michael College from Toronto this Saturday afternoon.



PARRKER WESTPHAL, a senior cornerback at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders beat Romeoville (Ill.) High School 41-7 on Friday night at home. Westphal, who holds multiple offers, has narrowed his list down to Arizona State, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State and Vanderbilt. Bolingbrook (2-0) returns to the field at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at home against Joliet (Ill.) Central High School.



RENELL WREN, a senior defensive end from Lutheran North (Mo.) High School, and the Crusaders lost 33-14 at Priory (Mo.) High School on Saturday. Wren, who has offers from Illinois, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Kansas, Memphis, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Purdue and Toledo, and the Crusaders (0-2) play at Westminster (Mo.) Christian Academy at 1 p.m. this Saturday.
