Recruiting Wrap (September 2013)

Golesh: 'When you commit, you're done'

Illinois football has not had a new Class of 2014 recruit commit for almost seven weeks.

It's pretty clear why.

Illinois, with 12 commits already lined up and a small senior class, has nearly finished its Class of 2014, with three or four spots left to fill.

Just as noteworthy in the past seven weeks is Illinois has not had a player decommit.

Weekend Wrap — Roberts stars, but then suffers injury

Every week during the football season, Illinois football beat writer MATT DANIELS will give a wrap-up of how Illini commits and targets fared during the previous weekend’s games.

Here are a few notes from Week 3.

The lowdown on Quentin Snider

Quentin Snider’s change in plans means a second straight weekend of a top basketball recruit visiting Illinois.

We’ll see if it ends the same way Leron Black’s weekend did last Sunday and Snider gives John Groce a verbal commitment.

Snider, a 6-foot-1, 150-pound point guard from Louisville (Ky.) Ballard High School, was a one-time Rick Pitino commit.

For a long time.

Black, Snider in Rivals' top 50

To the surprise of no one, Jahlil Okafor held on to the top spot.

In Rivals.com’s Top 150 players rankings released on Wednesday, the Chicago Whitney Young center — who still has Illinois among his final eight schools — garnered the top ranking for the Class of 2014 prospects.

Illinois has one of its two commits in 2014 on the list.

Analyzing Black's decision

Leron Black's commitment to Illinois lit up message boards and social media on Sunday morning.

The five-star forward from Memphis, Tenn., (or four-star, depending on what recruiting service you want to use) is easily the biggest recruit John Groce has landed since he started at Illinois.

Perhaps the biggest recruit since Dee Brown.
