Weekend Wrap — Crouch carries Green Wave

Every week during the football season, Illinois football beat writer MATT DANIELS will give a wrap-up of how Illini commits and targets fared during the previous weekend’s games.

Here are a few notes from Week 8.



THE COMMITS

NICK ALLEGRETTI, a center at Lincoln-Way East (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on March 11, and the Griffins beat Orland Park (Ill.) Carl Sandburg High School 31-13 at home on Friday night. Allegretti and Lincoln-Way East (6-1) will play at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Bolingbrook.

GERONIMO ALLISON, a wide receiver at Iowa Western Community College who committed to Illinois on July 25, and the Reivers won 59-7 at Iowa Central Community College on Saturday night. Allison had 11 catches for 126 yards and two touchdown receptions of 18 and 10 yards. Allison and the Reivers (7-1) will host Ellsworth (Iowa) Community College at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday.

CHAYCE CROUCH, a senior quarterback at Newark (Ohio) Catholic High School who committed to Illinois on May 2, and the Green Wave won 42-21 at Johnstown (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Crouch had 51 rushing yards on 17 carries and four touchdowns while also completing 10 of 18 passes for 204 yards, including a 78-yard touchdown pass. Crouch and the Green Wave (6-1) will host Johnstown (Ohio) Northridge High School this Friday night.

PETER CVIJANOVIC, a senior offensive tackle at East Coast Prep in Great Barrington, Mass., who committed to Illinois on Oct. 7, and East Coast Prep won 47-0 at Norwich (Vt.) University against Norwich University's junior varsity squad on Sunday. Cvijanovic and East Coast Prep (3-4) will play at Stevenson University this Saturday afternoon in Owings, Mills, Md., against Stevenson's junior varsity team.

MATT DOMER, a senior running back at Chicago Mt. Carmel High School who committed to Illinois on July 2, and the Caravan won 55-0 at Burbank (Ill.) St. Laurence High School on Friday night. Domer and the Caravan (6-1) will host New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Gately Stadium.

MIKE DUDEK, a senior wide receiver at Naperville (Ill.) Neuqua Valley High School who committed to Illinois on April 3, and the Wildcats beat Aurora (Ill.) Waubonsie Valley High School 40-25 on Friday night at North Central College in Naperville. Dudek caught seven passes for 97 yards, including a 7-yard touchdown catch, and returned a kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown. Dudek and the Wildcats (6-1) will host West Chicago (Ill.) High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

JORDAN FRAZIER, a senior tight end at Lighthouse Christian Academy in Springfield, Mo., who committed to Illinois on Oct. 6, and the Chargers won 53-33 at Dallas HSAA North on Friday night. Frazier and the Chargers (6-2) will play at Macon Road Baptist (Tenn.) this Friday night.

JULIAN HYLTON, a senior athlete at Lincoln-Way North (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on July 9 and is projected to play cornerback at Illinois, and the Phoenix lost 43-38 at home to Lincoln-Way West (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Hylton rushed for 117 yards on 18 carries and had a 55-yard touchdown run. Hylton and the Phoenix (6-1) will play at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Bradley-Bourbonnais (Ill.) High School.

HENRY McGREW, a senior linebacker at Blue Valley (Kan.) High School who committed to Illinois on June 18, and the Tigers won 35-3 at St. Thomas Aquinas (Kan.) High School on Friday night. McGrew had 13 tackles in the win, including one for a loss. He has 71 tackles on the season. McGrew and the Tigers (4-2) will host Blue Valley (Kan.) Southwest High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.

TITO ODENIGBO, a senior defensive lineman at Centerville (Ohio) High School who committed to Illinois on March 11, and the Elks lost 41-34 at Clayton (Ohio) Northmont High School on Friday night. Odenigbo had six tackles, including 1.5 sacks. Odenigbo and the Elks (6-1) will play at Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne High School this Friday night.

AUSTIN ROBERTS, a senior linebacker from Rice Lake (Wis.) High School who committed to Illinois on June 13, and the Warriors lost 36-26 at home to Eau Claire (Wis.) Memorial High School on Friday night. Rice Lake (3-5) will play at River Falls (Wis.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday in its regular season finale. The Warriors are without the services of Roberts after the linebacker tore the ACL in his left knee on Sept. 6.

MALIK TURNER, a senior wide receiver from Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart-Griffin High School who committed to Illinois on June 24, and the Cyclones beat Lincoln (Ill.) High School 69-0 on Friday night. Turner had one catch for 16 yards. Turner and the Cyclones (6-1) will play at 7 p.m. this Friday at Chatham-Glenwood (Ill.) High School.

THE TARGETS
TRENTON BALL, a senior tight end from Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert High School, and the Titans lost 28-21 to Guthrie (Okla.) High School at home on Friday night. Ball, who has an offer from Illinois and interest from Indiana, Kansas State, Missouri and Purdue, and the Titans (4-2) will play at Oklahoma City Northwest Classen High School this Friday.

KEI BECKHAM, a junior cornerback from Trotwood-Madison (Ohio) High School, and the Rams won 47-7 at Greenville (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Beckham had an interception in the win. Beckham, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Central Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota and Western Michigan, and the Rams (4-2) will host Troy (Ohio) High School this Friday night.

TERRY BECKNER JR., a junior defensive end from East St. Louis (Ill.) High School, and the Flyers won 26-13 at Alton (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Beckner, who has offers from Illinois, Cincinnati, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio State, Purdue, Syracuse and Tennessee, and the Flyers (4-3) will host Belleville (Ill.) West High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday.

JACK BENEVENTI, a junior quarterback at Benet (Ill.) Academy, and the Redwings lost 28-18 on Saturday afternoon at LaGrange Park (Ill.) Nazareth Academy. Beneventi was 12 of 31 for 86 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. Beneventi, who has offers from Illinois, Iowa, Louisville, Massachusetts, Notre Dame and Western Michigan, and Benet (6-1) will play at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Chicago Marist High School.


BRENNAN BOSCH, a junior guard from St. Charles (Ill.) East High School, and the Fighting Saints beat Streamwood (Ill.) High School 42-27 at home on Friday night. Bosch, who has an offer from Illinois and interest from Minnesota, and the Fighting Saints (5-2) will play at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Batavia (Ill.) High School.

MILES BOYKIN, a junior wide receiver at New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic High School, and the Celtics won 21-13 against Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick High School on Saturday afternoon at Concordia University in River Forest. Boykin, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Mississippi and Western Michigan, along with interest from Iowa, LSU, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State and Vanderbilt, and the Celtics (4-3) will play at 7:30 p.m. this Friday against Chicago Mt. Carmel at Gately Stadium in Chicago. 



DRE BROWN, a junior running back at DeKalb (Ill.) High School, and the Barbs beat Morris (Ill.) High School 40-14 at home on Friday night. Brown rushed for 257 yards, including touchdown runs of 97 and 94 yards. Brown, who has offers from Illinois, Kent State, Northern Illinois and Toledo, and the Barbs (4-3) will play at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Yorkville (Ill.) High School.

JAMES BUTLER, a senior running back at Wheaton (Ill.) St. Francis High School, and the Spartans lost 26-20 at Aurora (Ill.) Marmion Academy on Friday night. Butler rushed for 133 yards on 20 carries. Butler, who has interest from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Purdue, along with offers from Nevada and Temple, and the Spartans (3-4) will host River Grove (Ill.) Guerin High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.

JB BUTLER, a senior guard from Joliet Catholic (Ill.) Academy, and the Hilltoppers won 30-14 at Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel High School on Friday night. Butler, who has offers from several FCS schools and interest from Illinois, Indiana, Miami (Ohio), North Carolina State, Northern Illinois and Syracuse, and Joliet Catholic (6-1) will host Niles (Ill.) Notre Dame High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.  

NICK CONNER, a junior linebacker from Dublin (Ohio) Scioto High School, and the Irish beat Dublin (Ohio) Jerome High School 42-20 on Thursday night at home. Conner rushed for two touchdowns, had a 32-yard reception and intercepted a pass. Conner, who has offers from from Illinois and Kentucky, along with interest from Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue, and the Irish (5-2) will host Hilliard (Ohio) Darby High School this Friday night. 


MICAH DEW-TREADWAY, a junior defensive end at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders won 31-24 in overtime at Homewood-Flossmoor (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Dew-Treadway, who has an offer from Mississippi State and interest from Illinois, Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Mississippi and Texas, and the Raiders (7-0) will host Lincoln-Way East (Ill.) High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday. 


DAVID EDWARDS, a junior quarterback at Downers Grove (Ill.) North High School, and the Trojans beat Elmhurst (Ill.) York High School 28-7 at home on Friday night. Edwards missed the game with an injury. Edwards, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Syracuse and Vanderbilt, and Downers Grove North (4-3) will play at Hillside (Ill.) Proviso West High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

JIMMY FITZGERALD, a junior quarterback at Champaign (Ill.) Centennial High School, and the Chargers beat Springfield (Ill.) High School 28-13 at home on Friday night. Fitzgerald had touchdown passes of 9 and 17 yards and added a 2-yard touchdown run. Fitzgerald, who has offers from Illinois, Harvard and Yale, along with interest from Duke, Indiana, North Carolina and others, and Centennial (3-4) will host Champaign (Ill.) Central High School at 7 p.m. this Friday. 


JEFF GEORGE JR., a senior quarterback at Warren Central (Ind.) High School, and the Warriors won 28-7 at Lawrence Central (Ind.) High School on Friday night. George, who has a grayshirt scholarship offer from Illinois and interest from Akron, Cincinnati, Indiana, Louisville and Purdue, and the Warriors (5-3) will host Cincinnati St. Xavier High School this Friday night in their regular season finale.

DARRIN HALL, a junior running back at Austintown (Ohio) Fitch High School, and the Falcons beat Massillon (Ohio) Washington High School 30-27 on Friday night at home. Hall rushed for 75 yards on 21 carries. Hall, who has offers from Illinois, Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan State, Nebraska and Purdue, and the Falcons (7-0) will host Marion (Ohio) Harding High School this Saturday afternoon.

KRAIG HOWE, a junior defensive tackle from Kettering (Ohio) Archbishop Alter High School, and the Knights beat Cincinnati McNicholas High School 51-20 on Friday night at Centerville (Ohio) High School. Howe, who has offers from Illinois, Pittsburgh and Toledo, along with interest from Arkansas, Duke, Indiana, Iowa, Northwestern and Ohio State, among others, and the Knights (6-1) will play Dayton (Ohio) Carroll High School this Friday night at Roush Stadium in Fairmont, Ohio.

ADOREE' JACKSON, a senior cornerback and wide receiver at Junipero Serra (Calif.) High School, and the Cavaliers won 63-7 at Studio City (Calif.) Harvard-Westlake High School on Friday night. Jackson, who has offers from Illinois, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA and USC, and the Cavaliers (6-0) will host West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade High School this Friday night.

RODERICK JOHNSON, a senior offensive tackle from Hazelwood (Mo.) Central High School, and the Hawks won 27-14 at Hazelwood (Mo.) East High School on Saturday afternoon. Johnson, who has offers from Illinois, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas State, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Wisconsin, and the Hawks (7-0) will host Riverview Gardens (Mo.) High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday.

DARRIN KIRKLAND, a junior linebacker at Lawrence Central (Ind.) High School, and the Bears lost 28-7 at home to Warren Central (Ind.) High School on Friday night. Kirkland, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Indiana, Louisville, Toledo and Virginia Tech, and the Bears (3-5) will end the regular season this Friday night at Indianapolis Pike High School. 



KENNY JONES, a senior wide receiver at Lawrence Central (Ind.) High School, and the Bears lost 28-7 at home against Warren Central (Ind.) High School on Friday night. Jones, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State and Louisville, and the Bears (3-5) will end the regular season this Friday night at Indianapolis Pike High School. 


SIMEON LANE, a junior defensive tackle from Cincinnati St. Xavier High School, and the Bombers won 24-16 at home against Cincinnati La Salle High School on Friday night. Lane had one tackle, including half a sack, in the win. Lane, who has offers from Illinois and Toledo, along with interest from Boston College, Minnesota and Northwestern, and the Bombers (4-3) will play at Warren Central (Ind.) High School this Friday night.

HUNTER LITTLEJOHN, a junior guard at Olentangy (Ohio) Liberty High School, and the Patriots beat Westland (Ohio) High School 66-0 at home on Friday night. Littlejohn, who has offers from Illinois, Boston College and Indiana, and the Patriots (4-3) will play at Hilliard (Ohio) Davidson High School this Friday night.

TRAVIS LOCK, a running back at Nassau (N.Y.) Community College, and the Lions lost 45-22 at Georgia Military College on Saturday. Lock, who has offers from Illinois, Arizona State and South Florida, and the Lions (6-1) will play at Dean College (Mass.) this Saturday morning.

MADRE LONDON, a senior running back at St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) High School, and the Raiders won 60-6 at Oakland Park (Fla.) Northeast High School on Friday night. London had two touchdown runs of 6 and 7 yards. London, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Virginia and Wisconsin, and the Raiders (5-1) will host Weston (Fla.) Cyrpress Bay High School this Friday night. 


ANTHONY McKEE, a junior linebacker at Walnut Ridge (Ohio) High School, and the Scots won 34-20 at Columbus (Ohio) Eastmoor Academy on Friday night. McKee, who has offers from llinois, Arkansas, Boston College, Bowling Green, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Toledo and West Virginia, and the Scots (5-2) will host Columbus (Ohio) Briggs High School this Friday night. 


GABE MEGGINSON, a junior offensive tackle at Jacksonville (Ill.) High School, and the Crimsons won 45-14 at Taylorville (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Megginson, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Indiana, Northern Illinois and Wisconsin, and the Crimsons (5-2) will play at Breese (Ill.) Mater Dei High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.


KENTRAIL MORAN, a sophomore running back at O'Fallon (Ill.) High School, and the Panthers lost 42-14 at home to Edwardsville (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Moran, who has an offer from Illinois and Northern Illinois along with interest from Alabama, Cincinnati, Florida, Indiana, Iowa and Tennessee, and O'Fallon (4-3) will play at 1 p.m. this Saturday at Belleville (Ill.) East High School. 



FLYNN NAGEL, a junior wide receiver at Chicago Marist High School, and the RedHawks lost 45-35 at Niles (Ill.) Notre Dame High School on Friday night. Nagel had a 9-yard touchdown catch in the win. Nagel, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana and Northern Illinois, along with interest from Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Vanderbilt and Western Michigan, and the RedHawks (4-3) will host Lisle (Ill.) Benet Academy at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

QUINN OSELAND, a junior offensive tackle at Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, and the Cyclones won 69-0 at Lincoln (Ill.) High School on Friday night.. Oseland, who has interest from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin, and the Cyclones (6-1) will play at 7 p.m. at Chatham-Glenwood (Ill.) High School this Friday night.

MARTESSE PATTERSON, a senior guard from Marion-Franklin (Ohio) High School, and the Red Devils won 48-16 at Columbus (Ohio) West High School on Friday night. Patterson, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Purdue and Toledo, and the Red Devils (6-1) will host Columbus (Ohio) Eastmoor Academy this Friday night.

LEONARD ROSS, a junior running back at LaGrange (Ill.) Lyons Twp. High School, and the Lions lost 31-26 at home to Oak Park-River Forest (Ill.) High School on Saturday afternoon. Ross rushed for 66 yards on 17 carries before he left the game in the fourth quarter with a leg injury. Ross, who holds an offer from Illinois and interest from Ball State, Indiana, Minnesota, Western Michigan and Wisconsin, and the Lions (3-4) will play at Elmhurst (Ill.) York High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

ANTONIO SHENAULT, a junior cornerback at Lake Park (Ill.) High School, and the Lancers lost 28-0 at Wheaton (Ill.) Warrenville South High School on Friday night. Shenault, who has an offer from Northern Illinois and interest from Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Northwestern, and the Lancers (1-6) will host Lombard (Ill.) Glenbard East High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

NATEREACE STRONG, a junior running back from East St. Louis (Ill.) High School, and the Flyers won 26-13 at Alton (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Strong rushed for 106 yards on eight carries and had touchdown runs of 11 and 22 yards. Strong, who has offers from Illinois, Florida State, Kansas, Michigan State, Missouri and Ohio State, and the Flyers (4-3) will host Belleville (Ill.) West High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday.

NILE SYKES, a senior linebacker at Lombard Montini (Ill.) High School, and the Broncos beat Woodstock (Ill.) Marian Catholic High School 40-35 on Friday night at home. Sykes, who has offers from Illinois, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, Iowa State, Missouri, Northern Illinois, Purdue, Syracuse, Toledo and Western Michigan, and the Broncos (7-0) will play at Aurora (Ill.) Christian School at 7 p.m. this Saturday.

ELIJAH TAYLOR, a junior defensive end from Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller High School, and the Fighting Crusaders won 35-14 at Cincinnati Elder High School on Friday night. Taylor had eight tackles, including a sack. Taylor, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Ohio and West Virginia, and the Fighting Crusaders (7-0) will play Indianapolis Cathedral High School this Friday night at Roettger Stadium in Lockland, Ohio.

PARRKER WESTPHAL, a senior cornerback at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders won 31-24 in overtime at Homewood-Flossmoor (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Westphal, who holds multiple offers, has narrowed his list down to Arizona State, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State and Vanderbilt. Bolingbrook (7-0) will host Lincoln-Way East (Ill.) High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday. 


RENELL WREN, a senior defensive end from Lutheran North (Mo.) High School, and the Crusaders beat Principa (Mo.) High School 49-7 at home on Saturday afternoon. Wren, who has offers from Illinois, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Kansas, Memphis, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Purdue and Toledo, but has narrowed his top five down to Illinois, Purdue, Arizona State, Mississippi State and Michigan State, and the Crusaders (3-4) will play at St. Louis Trinity Catholic High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.
