Weekend Wrap — Turner smooth in SHG win

Every week during the football season, Illinois football beat writer MATT DANIELS will give a wrap-up of how Illini commits and targets fared during the previous weekend’s games.

Here are a few notes from Week 7.



THE COMMITS

NICK ALLEGRETTI, a center at Lincoln-Way East (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on March 11, and the Griffins won 35-24 at Joliet (Ill.) West High School on Saturday afternoon. Allegretti and Lincoln-Way East (5-1) will host Orland Park (Ill.) Carl Sandburg High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

GERONIMO ALLISON, a wide receiver at Iowa Western Community College who committed to Illinois on July 25, and the Reivers won 84-40 at Arkansas Baptist on Saturday afternoon. Allison had four catches for 43 yards and caught touchdown passes of 15 and 10 yard. Allison and the Reivers (6-1) will play at Iowa Central Community College at 7 p.m. this Saturday.

CHAYCE CROUCH, a senior quarterback at Newark (Ohio) Catholic High School who committed to Illinois on May 2, and the Green Wave beat Heath (Ohio) High School 42-6 on Saturday night at home. Crouch was 10 of 25 for 189 yards and threw a 22-yard touchdown pass. He also added touchdown runs of 4 and 11 yards. Crouch and the Green Wave (5-1) will play at Johnstown (Ohio) High School this Friday night.

MATT DOMER, a senior running back at Chicago Mt. Carmel High School who committed to Illinois on July 2, and the Caravan lost 24-17 at Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola Academy on Sunday afternoon. The game started Saturday afternoon, but was suspended because of inclement weather before it was finished on Sunday.  Domer rushed for 187 yards on 18 carries, including a touchdown. Domer and the Caravan (5-1) will play at Burbank (Ill.) St. Laurence High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

MIKE DUDEK, a senior wide receiver at Naperville (Ill.) Neuqua Valley High School who committed to Illinois on April 3, and the Wildcats beat Aurora (Ill.) Metea Valley High School 65-28 on Friday night at home. Dudek and the Wildcats (5-1) will play Aurora (Ill.) Waubonsie Valley High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at North Central College in Naperville.

JORDAN FRAZIER, a senior tight end at Lighthouse Christian Academy in Springfield, Mo., who committed to Illinois on Oct. 6, and the Eagles won 21-0 at home on Saturday afternoon against Community Christian out of Norman, Okla. Lighthouse Christian (5-2) will play at Dallas HSAA North this Friday night.

JULIAN HYLTON, a senior athlete at Lincoln-Way North (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on July 9 and is projected to play cornerback at Illinois, and the Phoenix won 22-21 at Lincoln-Way Central (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Hylton rushed for 153 yards on 34 carries and two touchdowns. Hylton and the Phoenix (6-0) will host Lincoln-Way West (Ill.) High School at 7:15 p.m. this Friday.

HENRY McGREW, a senior linebacker at Blue Valley (Kan.) High School who committed to Illinois on June 18, and the Tigers lost 31-28 to Blue Valley (Kan.) Northwest High School at home on Friday night. McGrew had 14 tackles and one sack, including three quarterback hurries. McGrew and the Tigers (3-2) will play at St. Thomas Aquinas (Kan.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.

TITO ODENIGBO, a senior defensive lineman at Centerville (Ohio) High School who committed to Illinois on March 11, and the Elks beat Kettering (Ohio) Fairmont High School 35-21 at home on Friday night. Odenigbo had two tackles in the win. Odenigbo and the Elks (6-0) play at Clayton (Ohio) Northmont High School this Friday night.

AUSTIN ROBERTS, a senior linebacker from Rice Lake (Wis.) High School who committed to Illinois on June 13, and the Warriors lost 38-34 at Chippewa Falls (Wis.) High School on Friday night. Rice Lake (3-4) will host Eau Claire (Wis.) Memorial High School at 7 p.m. this Friday, but the Warriors are without the services of Roberts for the rest of the season after the linebacker tore the ACL in his left knee on Sept. 6.

MALIK TURNER, a senior wide receiver from Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart-Griffin High School who committed to Illinois on June 24, and the Cyclones beat Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven High School 49-27 at home on Saturday afternoon. Turner caught 11 passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns. Turner and the Cyclones (5-1) will host Lincoln (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.

THE TARGETS
TRENTON BALL, a senior tight end from Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert High School, and the Titans beat Oklahoma City Bishop McGuiness High School 35-21 on Friday night on the road. Ball, who has an offer from Illinois and interest from Indiana, Kansas State, Missouri and Purdue, and the Titans (4-1) host Guthrie (Okla.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.

KEI BECKHAM, a junior cornerback from Trotwood-Madison (Ohio) High School, and the Rams beat Piqua (Ohio) High School 69-34 at home on Friday night. Beckham had two tackles in the win. Beckham, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Central Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky and Western Michigan, and the Rams (3-2) will play at Greenville (Ohio) High School this Friday night.

TERRY BECKNER JR., a junior defensive end from East St. Louis (Ill.) High School, and the Flyers beat Granite City (Ill.) High School 60-0 at home on Saturday afternoon. Beckner, who has offers from Illinois, Cincinnati, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio State, Purdue, Syracuse and Tennessee, and the Flyers (3-3) play at Alton (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.

JACK BENEVENTI, a junior quarterback at Benet (Ill.) Academy, and the Redwings beat Arlington Heights (Ill.) St. Viator High School 38-14 on Friday night at Benedictine University in Lisle. Beneventi was 17 of 28 for 157 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He threw touchdown passes of 7 and 11 yards. Beneventi, who has offers from Illinois, Iowa, Louisville, Massachusetts, Notre Dame and Western Michigan, and Benet (6-0) will play at LaGrange Park (Ill.) Nazareth Academy at 1:30 p.m. this Saturday.


BRENNAN BOSCH, a junior guard from St. Charles (Ill.) East High School, and the Fighting Saints lost 35-21 at Geneva (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Bosch, who has an offer from Illinois and interest from Minnesota, and the Fighting Saints (4-2) will host Streamwood (Ill.) High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

MILES BOYKIN, a junior wide receiver at New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic High School, and the Celtics lost 37-14 to Chicago St. Rita High School on Friday night at home. Boykin had five catches for 79 yards. Boykin, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Mississippi and Western Michigan, along with interest from Iowa, LSU, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State and Vanderbilt, and the Celtics (3-3) will play at Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick High School at 1:30 p.m. this Saturday.



DRE BROWN, a junior running back at DeKalb (Ill.) High School, and the Barbs lost 35-12 at home against Maple Park (Ill.) Kaneland High School on Friday night. Brown rushed for 130 yards, helped out by an 89-ard touchdown run. Brown, who has offers from Illinois, Kent State, Northern Illinois and Toledo, and the Barbs (3-3) will host Morris (Ill.) High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

JAMES BUTLER, a senior running back at Wheaton (Ill.) St. Francis High School, and the Spartans lost 34-28 at Woodstock (Ill.) Marian Catholic High School on Friday night. Butler rushed for 115 yards on 22 carries, scored two touchdowns, caught five passes for 60 yards and threw a 70-yard touchdown pass. Butler, who has interest from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Purdue, along with offers from Nevada and Temple, and the Spartans (3-3) will play at Aurora (Ill.) Marmion Academy at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

JB BUTLER, a senior guard from Joliet Catholic (Ill.) Academy, and the Hilltoppers lost 22-21 to Chicago St. Patrick High School on Friday night at home. Butler missed the game because of an injury. Butler, who has offers from several FCS schools and interest from Illinois, Indiana, Miami (Ohio), North Carolina State, Northern Illinois and Syracuse, and Joliet Catholic (5-1) will play at Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

NICK CONNER, a junior linebacker from Dublin (Ohio) Scioto High School, and the Irish won 31-24 in overtime at Westerville (Ohio) South High School on Friday night. Conner rushed for the game-winning touchdown in overtime, a 2-yard score, and finished with 6 yards on five carries. He added a 16-yard reception. Defensively, he recorded 11.5 tackles, including five for loss, and intercepted a pass. Conner, who has offers from Illinois and Kentucky, along with interest from Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue, and the Irish (4-2) will host Dublin (Ohio) Jerome High School this Thursday night. 


MICAH DEW-TREADWAY, a junior defensive end at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders beat Lockport (Ill.) Township High School 24-3 on Friday night at home. Dew-Treadway, who has an offer from Mississippi State and interest from Illinois, Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Mississippi and Texas, and the Raiders (6-0) will play at Homewood-Flossmoor (Ill.) High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday. 


DAVID EDWARDS, a junior quarterback at Downers Grove (Ill.) North High School, and the Trojans won 42-21 at Downers Grove (Ill.) South High School. Edwards did not play because of a bone bruise. Edwards, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Syracuse and Vanderbilt, and Downers Grove North (3-3) will host Elmhurst (Ill.) York High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

JIMMY FITZGERALD, a junior quarterback at Champaign (Ill.) Centennial High School, and the Chargers lost 35-26 at Bloomington (Ill.) High School. Fitzgerald was 30 of 48 for 356 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He added a 1-yard touchdown run. Fitzgerald, who has offers from Illinois and Yale, along with interest from Duke, Indiana, North Carolina and others, and Centennial (2-4) will host Springfield (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday. 


JEFF GEORGE JR., a senior quarterback at Warren Central (Ind.) High School, and the Warriors lost 21-15 at Carmel (Ind.) High School on Friday night. George, who has a grayshirt scholarship offer from Illinois and interest from Akron, Cincinnati, Indiana, Louisville and Purdue, and the Warriors (4-3) will play at Lawrence Central (Ind.) High School this Friday night.

DARRIN HALL, a junior running back at Austintown (Ohio) Fitch High School, and the Falcons won 39-0 at home against Youngstown (Ohio) East High School on Friday night. Hall rushed for 152 yards on 18 carries. Hall, who has offers from Illinois, Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan State, Nebraska and Purdue, and the Falcons (6-0) will host Massillon (Ohio) Washington High School this Friday night.

KRAIG HOWE, a junior defensive tackle from Kettering (Ohio) Archbishop Alter High School, and the Knights won 49-3 at Badin (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Howe had three tackles, including a sack. Howe, who has offers from Illinois and Pittsburgh, along with interest from Arkansas, Duke, Indiana, Iowa, Northwestern, Ohio State and Toledo, and the Knights (5-1) will play Cincinnati McNicholas High School this Friday night at Centerville (Ohio) High School.

ADOREE' JACKSON, a senior cornerback and wide receiver at Junipero Serra (Calif.) High School, and the Cavaliers were off this weekend. Jackson, who has offers from Illinois, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA and USC, and the Cavaliers (5-0) will play at Studio City (Calif.) Harvard-Westlake High School this Friday night.

RODERICK JOHNSON, a senior offensive tackle from Hazelwood (Mo.) Central High School, and the Hawks beat Pattonville (Mo.) High School 56-47 at home on Saturday afternoon. Johnson, who has offers from Illinois, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas State, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Wisconsin, and the Hawks (6-0) will play at 1 p.m. this Saturday at Hazelwood (Mo.) East High School.

DARRIN KIRKLAND, a junior linebacker at Lawrence Central (Ind.) High School, and the Bears lost 24-21 in overtime at Cleveland St. Ignatius High School. Kirkland, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Indiana, Louisville, Toledo and Virginia Tech, and the Bears (3-4) will host Warren Central (Ind.) High School this Friday night. 



KENNY JONES, a senior wide receiver at Lawrence Central (Ind.) High School, and the Bears lost 24-21 in overtime at Cleveland St. Ignatius High School on Friday night. Jones had an 83-yard touchdown catch. Jones, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State and Louisville, and the Bears (3-4) will host Warren Central (Ind.) High School this Friday night. 


SIMEON LANE, a junior defensive tackle from Cincinnati St. Xavier High School, and the Bombers lost 23-10 at home against Cincinnati Elder High School on Friday night. Lane had 12 tackles. Lane, who has an offer from Illinois and interest from Boston College, Minnesota and Northwestern, and the Bombers (3-3) will host Cincinnati La Salle High School this Friday night.

HUNTER LITTLEJOHN, a junior guard at Olentangy (Ohio) Liberty High School, and the Patriots lost 31-21 at Marysville (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Littlejohn, who has offers from Illinois, Boston College and Indiana, and the Patriots (3-3) will host Westland (Ohio) High School this Friday night.

TRAVIS LOCK, a running back at Nassau (N.Y.) Community College, and the Lions beat Hudson Valley (N.Y.) Community College 68-20 on Friday night at home. Lock rushed for 43 yards on nine carries. Lock, who has offers from Illinois, Arizona State and South Florida, and the Lions (6-0) will play at Georgia Military College this Saturday morning.

MADRE LONDON, a senior running back at St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) High School, and the Raiders won 66-0 at South Hollywood (Fla.) South Broward High School on Friday night. London had a 2-yard touchdown run in the rout. London, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Virginia and Wisconsin, and the Raiders (4-1) will play at Oakland Park (Fla.) Northeast High School this Friday night. 


ANTHONY McKEE, a junior linebacker at Walnut Ridge (Ohio) High School, and the Scots beat Columbus (Ohio) West High School 28-7 on Friday night at home. McKee, who has offers from llinois, Arkansas, Boston College, Bowling Green, Kentucky, Tennessee, Toledo and West Virginia, and the Scots (4-2) will play at Columbus (Ohio) Eastmoor Academy this Friday night. 


GABE MEGGINSON, a junior offensive tackle at Jacksonville (Ill.) High School, and the Crimsons beat Springfield (Ill.) High School 47-27 at home on Friday night. Megginson, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Indiana, Northern Illinois and Wisconsin, and the Crimsons (4-2) will play at Taylorville (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.


KENTRAIL MORAN, a sophomore running back at O'Fallon (Ill.) High School, and the Panthers won 27-13 at Collinsville (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Moran rushed for 195 yards on 21 carries and added a 27-yard touchdown pass off a halfback option play. Moran, who has an offer from Illinois and Northern Illinois along with interest from Alabama, Cincinnati, Florida, Indiana, Iowa and Tennessee, and O'Fallon (4-2) will host Edwardsville (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.



FLYNN NAGEL, a junior wide receiver at Chicago Marist High School, and the RedHawks beat Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel High School 35-25 on Friday night at home. Nagel caught nine passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns of 68, 35 and 8 yards. Nagel, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana and Northern Illinois, along with interest from Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Vanderbilt and Western Michigan, and the RedHawks (4-2) will play at Niles (Ill.) Notre Dame High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

QUINN OSELAND, a junior offensive tackle at Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, and the Cyclones won 49-27 at home on Saturday afternoon against Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven High School. Oseland, who has interest from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin, and the Cyclones (5-1) will host Lincoln (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.

MARTESSE PATTERSON, a senior guard from Marion-Franklin (Ohio) High School, and the Red Devils won 57-6 at Columbus (Ohio) Africentric Secondary School on Friday night. Patterson, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Purdue and Toledo, and the Red Devils (5-1) will play at Columbus (Ohio) West High School this Friday night.

AARON ROBERTS, a senior guard from Chicago De La Salle, and the Meteors won 38-16 at Burbank (Ill.) St. Laurence High School on Friday night. Roberts, who has offers from Illinois, Ball State, New Mexico and Syracuse, and De La Salle (5-1) will host Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola Academy at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

LEONARD ROSS, a junior running back at LaGrange (Ill.) Lyons Twp. High School, and the Lions won 35-14 at Hinsdale (Ill.) Central High School on Saturday afternoon. Ross rushed for 115 yards on 15 carries, including touchdown runs of 59, 1 and 8 yards. Ross, who holds an offer from Illinois and interest from Ball State, Indiana, Minnesota, Western Michigan and Wisconsin, and the Lions (3-3) host Oak Park-River Forest (Ill.) High School at 1:30 p.m. this Saturday.

ANTONIO SHENAULT, a junior cornerback at Lake Park (Ill.) High School, and the Lancers lost 28-24 at Naperville (Ill.) North High School on Friday night. Shenault had a 10-yard touchdown catch in the loss. Shenault, who has an offer from Northern Illinois and interest from Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Northwestern, and the Lancers (1-5) will play at Wheaton (Ill.) Warrenville South High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

NATEREACE STRONG, a junior running back from East St. Louis (Ill.) High School, and the Flyers beat Granite City (Ill.) High School 60-0 at home on Saturday afternoon. Strong, who has offers from Illinois, Florida State, Kansas, Michigan State, Missouri and Ohio State, and the Flyers (3-3) will play at Alton (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday.

NILE SYKES, a senior linebacker at Lombard Montini (Ill.) High School, and the Broncos beat Elmhusrt (Ill.) Immaculate Conception High School 38-21 at home on Friday night. Sykes, who has offers from Illinois, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, Iowa State, Missouri, Northern Illinois, Purdue, Syracuse, Toledo and Western Michigan, and the Broncos (6-0) will host Woodstock (Ill.) Marian Catholic High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

ELIJAH TAYLOR, a junior defensive end from Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller High School, and the Fighting Crusaders beat Cincinnati La Salle High School 31-28 at home on Friday night. Taylor had seven tackles and a fumble recovery. Taylor, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Ohio and West Virginia, and the Fighting Crusaders (6-0) will play at Cincinnati Elder High School this Friday night.

PARRKER WESTPHAL, a senior cornerback at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders beat Lockport (Ill.) Township High School 24-3 at home on Friday night. Westphal had an interception in the win. Westphal, who holds multiple offers, has narrowed his list down to Arizona State, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State and Vanderbilt. Bolingbrook (6-0) will play at Homewood-Flossmoor (Ill.) High School this Friday night. 


RENELL WREN, a senior defensive end from Lutheran North (Mo.) High School, and the Crusaders won 34-14 at Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School on Saturday afternoon. Wren, who has offers from Illinois, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Kansas, Memphis, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Purdue and Toledo, but has narrowed his top five down to Illinois, Purdue, Arizona State, Mississippi State and Michigan State, and the Crusaders (2-4) will host Principia (Mo.) High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday.
