Weekend Wrap — Domer keeps Caravan rolling

Every week during the football season, Illinois football beat writer MATT DANIELS will give a wrap-up of how Illini commits and targets fared during the previous weekend’s games.



Here are a few notes from Week 12 as the state playoffs leave fewer and fewer teams standing each week.





THE COMMITS


NICK ALLEGRETTI, a center at Lincoln-Way East (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on March 11, and the Griffins won 57-40 at Oswego (Ill.) East High School on Saturday afternoon in a Class 7A second-round playoff game. Allegretti and the Griffins (9-2) will play at Edwardsville (Ill.) High School at 3 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.


CHAYCE CROUCH, a senior quarterback at Newark (Ohio) Catholic High School who committed to Illinois on May 2, and the Green Wave beat Bellaire (Ohio) High School 29-0 on Friday night at Newark (Ohio) High School in a Division VI regional quarterfinal playoff game. Crouch completed 5 of 15 passes for 60 yards and rushed for 41 yards on 13 carries, including touchdown runs of 3 and 4 yards. Crouch and the Green Wave (10-1) will play Lucasville (Ohio) Valley High School at 6:30 p.m. this Friday at Nelsonville-York (Ohio) High School in a regional semifinal game.

PETER CVIJANOVIC, a senior offensive tackle at East Coast Prep in Great Barrington, Mass., who committed to Illinois on Oct. 7, and East Coast Prep won 38-13 on Saturday at Hudson Valley (N.Y.) Community College. Cvijanovic and East Coast Prep (7-4) will end the season this Sunday afternoon against Bridgton Academy in Worcester, Mass.



MATT DOMER, a senior running back at Chicago Mt. Carmel High School who committed to Illinois on July 2, and the Caravan beat Chicago St. Rita 20-15 on Friday night at Gately Stadium in Chicago in a Class 7A second-round playoff game. Domer had a huge game, rushing for 248 yards on 30 carries, including a 10-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that was the game's winning touchdown. Domer and the Caravan (10-1) will play at Downers Grove (Ill.) North High School at 3 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.



MIKE DUDEK, a senior wide receiver at Naperville (Ill.) Neuqua Valley High School who committed to Illinois on April 3, and the Wildcats beat Chicago Simeon High School 27-20 on Saturday night at home in a Class 8A second-round playoff game. Dudek and the Wildcats (10-1) will play at Naperville (Ill.) Central High School at 6 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.


JULIAN HYLTON, a senior athlete at Lincoln-Way North (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on July 9 and is projected to play cornerback at Illinois, and the Phoenix beat Olympia Fields (Ill.) Rich Central High School 38-6 on Friday night in a Class 6A second-round playoff game. Hylton rushed for 227 yards on 32 carries and two touchdowns. Hylton and the Phoenix (10-1) will play at Oak Lawn (Ill.) Richards High School at 6 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.



HENRY McGREW, a senior linebacker at Blue Valley (Kan.) High School who committed to Illinois on June 18, and the Tigers won 42-14 at Tecusmeh (Kan.) Shawnee Heights High School on Friday night in a Class 5A regional final playoff game. McGrew and the Tigers (7-3) will host Shawnee (Kan.) Mill Valley High School at 7 p.m. this Friday in a sectional final playoff game.



TITO ODENIGBO, a senior defensive lineman at Centerville (Ohio) High School who committed to Illinois on March 11, and the Elks lost 42-14 to Dublin (Ohio) Coffman High School on Saturday night in a Division I regional quarterfinal playoff game at home. Odenigbo had five tackles in the season-ending loss. Odenigbo helped the Elks finish with an 8-3 record.



MALIK TURNER, a senior wide receiver from Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart-Griffin High School who committed to Illinois on June 24, and the Cyclones won 55-7 at Chatham-Glenwood (Ill.) High School on Saturday afternoon in a Class 5A second-round playoff game. Turner had a 27-yard interception return for a touchdown. Turner and the Cyclones (11-0) will host Highland (Ill.) High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.



THE TARGETS

TRENTON BALL, a senior tight end from Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert High School, and the Titans beat El Reno (Okla.) High School 44-7 on Friday night at home. Ball, who has an offer from Illinois and interest from Indiana, Kansas State, Missouri and Purdue, and the Titans (8-2) will host Del City (Okla.) High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday in a Class 5A first-round playoff game.



KEI BECKHAM, a junior cornerback from Trotwood-Madison (Ohio) High School, and the Rams won 42-7 at Franklin (Ohio) High School in a Division III regional quarterfinal playoff game on Friday night. Beckham had six tackles and three interceptions in the win. Beckham, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Central Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota and Western Michigan, and the Rams (8-2) will play Springfield (Ohio) Shawnee High School at 6:30 p.m. this Friday at Piqua (Ohio) High School in a regional semifinal playoff game.



TERRY BECKNER JR., a junior defensive end from East St. Louis (Ill.) High School, and the Flyers beat Normal (Ill.) Community High School 38-16 at home on Saturday afternoon in a Class 6A second-round playoff game. Beckner, who has offers from Illinois, Cincinnati, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio State, Purdue, Syracuse and Tennessee, and the Flyers (8-3) will play at New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.




MILES BOYKIN, a junior wide receiver at New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic High School, and the Celtics won 55-27 at Quincy (Ill.) High School on Saturday afternoon in a Class 6A second-round playoff game. Boykin caught a 36-yard touchdown pass and threw a 37-yard touchdown pass in the win. Boykin, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Mississippi and Western Michigan, along with interest from Iowa, LSU, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State and Vanderbilt, and the Celtics (7-4) will host East St. Louis (Ill.) High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.




JB BUTLER, a senior guard from Joliet Catholic (Ill.) Academy, and the Hilltoppers beat Maple Park (Ill.) Kaneland High School 45-8 on Saturday night at home in a Class 5A second-round playoff game. Butler, who has offers from several FCS schools and interest from Illinois, Indiana, Miami (Ohio), North Carolina State, Northern Illinois and Syracuse, and Joliet Catholic (10-1) will play at Lombard (Ill.) Montini High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.



NICK CONNER, a junior linebacker from Dublin (Ohio) Scioto High School, and the Irish saw their season end with a 38-3 loss at Worthington (Ohio) Kilbourne High School on Friday night in a Division II first-round playoff game. Conner had 19 rushing yards on seven carries and 16 receiving yards on two catches. Conner, who has offers from Illinois and Kentucky, along with interest from Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue, helped the Irish to a 6-5 record this season.



MICAH DEW-TREADWAY, a junior defensive end at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders lost 21-7 at home to Chicago Marist High School on Friday night in a Class 8A second-round playoff game. Dew-Treadway, who has an offer from Mississippi State and interest from Illinois, Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Mississippi and Texas, helped the Raiders finish 10-1 this season.

DAVID EDWARDS, a junior quarterback at Downers Grove (Ill.) North High School, and the Trojans won 10-7 at Wheaton (Ill.) Warrenville South High School on Friday night in a Class 7A second-round playoff game. Edwards completed 1 of 2 passes for 38 yards in the win. Edwards, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Syracuse and Vanderbilt, and Downers Grove North (7-4) will host Chicago Mt. Carmel High School at 3 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.





JEFF GEORGE JR., a senior quarterback at Warren Central (Ind.) High School, and the Warriors won 24-21 at Indianapolis Pike High School on Friday night in a Class 6A regional final playoff game. George finished 16 of 33 for 214 yards and two touchdown passes of 11 and 14 yards. George, who has a grayshirt scholarship offer from Illinois and interest from Akron, Cincinnati, Indiana, Louisville and Purdue, and the Warriors (9-3) will host Center Grove (Ind.) High School at 6 p.m. this Friday in a semistate game.



DARRIN HALL, a junior running back at Austintown (Ohio) Fitch High School, and the Falcons beat Marysville (Ohio) High School 31-21 at home on Saturday night in a Division I regional quarterfinal playoff game. Hall rushed for 32 yards on six carries, including a 29-yard touchdown run, but left the game with a shoulder injury in the second quarter. Hall, who has offers from Illinois, Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan State, Nebraska and Purdue, and the Falcons (11-0) will play Westerville (Ohio) Central High School at 6 p.m. this Saturday in a regional semifinal playoff game at Mansfield (Ohio) High School.

JACK HOCKADAY, a junior athlete at Maroa-Forsyth (Ill.) High School, and the Trojans won 24-19 at Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond (Ill.) High School on Saturday afternoon in a Class 1A second-round playoff game. Hockaday was 11 of 17 for 97 passing yards and added a 20-yard touchdown run. Hockaday, who has offers from Illinois, Duke, Indiana, Iowa and Nebraska, and the Trojans (11-0) will host Camp Point (Ill.) Central High School at 3 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.



KRAIG HOWE, a junior defensive tackle from Kettering (Ohio) Archbishop Alter High School, and the Knights beat Cincinnati Wyoming High School 35-21 in a Division IV regional quarterfinal playoff game on Friday night. Howe, who has offers from Illinois, Miami (Ohio), Pittsburgh and Toledo, along with interest from Arkansas, Duke, Indiana, Iowa, Northwestern and Ohio State, among others, and the Knights (10-1) will play Germantown (Ohio) Valley View High School at 6:30 p.m. this Friday at Centerville (Ohio) High School in a regional semifinal playoff game.



ADOREE' JACKSON, a senior cornerback and wide receiver at Junipero Serra (Calif.) High School, and the Cavaliers won 56-10 at Santa Fe Springs (Calif.) St. Paul High School on Friday night. Jackson had two interceptions in the win. Jackson, who has offers from Illinois, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA and USC, and the Cavaliers (10-0) will host Oxnard (Calif.) Pacifica High School this Friday night in a Southern Section first-round playoff game.



RODERICK JOHNSON, a senior offensive tackle from Hazelwood (Mo.) Central High School, and the Hawks beat DeSmet (Mo.) High School 35-28 on Saturday afternoon at home in a Class 6 second-round playoff game. Johnson, who has offers from Illinois, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas State, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Wisconsin, and the Hawks (11-0) will host St. Louis CBC High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.





SIMEON LANE, a junior defensive tackle from Cincinnati St. Xavier High School, and the Bombers lost 42-17 to Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller High School in a Division I regional quarterfinal playoff game on Saturday night at Lockland (Ohio) High School. Lane had three tackles. Lane, who has offers from Illinois and Toledo, along with interest from Boston College, Minnesota and Northwestern, and the Bombers finished the season 5-6.



TRAVIS LOCK, a running back at Nassau (N.Y.) Community College, and the Lions ended the regular season with a 37-7 home loss against ASA (N.Y.) College on Saturday. Lock rushed for 36 yards on 12 carries. Lock, who has offers from Illinois, Arizona State, Georgia State and South Florida, and the Lions went 9-2 in the regular season.




GABE MEGGINSON, a junior offensive tackle at Jacksonville (Ill.) High School, and the Crimsons lost 35-27 at home to Normal (Ill.) University High School on Saturday afternoon in a Class 5A second-round playoff game. Megginson, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Indiana, Northern Illinois and Wisconsin, helped the Crimsons finish with a 7-4 record.






FLYNN NAGEL, a junior wide receiver at Chicago Marist High School, and the RedHawks won 21-7 at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School on Friday night in a Class 8A second-round playoff game. Nagel caught six passes for 52 yards in the win. Nagel, who has offers from lllinois, Indiana, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan, along with interest from Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State and Vanderbilt, and the RedHawks (8-3) will host Oswego (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.



QUINN OSELAND, a junior offensive tackle at Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, and the Cyclones won 55-7 at Chatham-Glenwood (Ill.) High School on Saturday afternoon in a Class 5A second-round playoff game. Oseland, who has an offer from Illinois and interest from Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin, and the Cyclones (11-0) will host Highland (Ill.) High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.

MARTESSE PATTERSON, a senior guard from Marion-Franklin (Ohio) High School, and the Red Devils beat Dover (Ohio) High School 27-14 at home on Friday night in a Division III regional quarterfinal playoff game. Patterson, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Purdue and Toledo, and the Red Devils (10-1) will play Columbus (Ohio) Brookhaven High School at 6:30 p.m. this Friday in a Division III regional semifinal playoff game at Columbus (Ohio) St. Francis DeSales High School.

TREVOR RUHLAND, a junior offensive tackle at Cary-Grove (Ill.) High School, and the Trojans lost 17-10 at home to Rockford (Ill.) Boylan Catholic High School on Saturday afternoon in a Class 6A second-round playoff game. Ruhland, who has offers from Illinois, Duke, Minnesota, Northern Illinois and Northwestern, helped the Trojans finish with a 7-4 record. 




NATEREACE STRONG, a junior running back from East St. Louis (Ill.) High School, and the Flyers beat Normal (Ill.) Community High School 38-16 on Saturday afternoon at home in a Class 6A second-round playoff game. Strong, who has offers from Illinois, Florida State, Kansas, Michigan State, Missouri and Ohio State, and the Flyers (8-3) will play at New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.



NILE SYKES, a senior linebacker at Lombard Montini (Ill.) High School, and the Broncos won 40-7 at Woodstock (Ill.) Marian Central Catholic High School on Saturday night in a Class 5A second-round playoff game. Sykes, who has offers from Illinois, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, Iowa State, Missouri, Northern Illinois, Purdue, South Florida, Syracuse, Toledo and Western Michigan, and the Broncos (11-0) will host Joliet (Ill.) Catholic High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.



ELIJAH TAYLOR, a junior defensive end from Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller High School, and the Fighting Crusaders beat Cincinnati St. Xavier 42-17 on Saturday night at Lockland (Ohio) High School. Taylor had five tackles in the win. Taylor, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio and West Virginia, and the Fighting Crusaders (10-1) will play Cincinnati Elder High School at 6 p.m. this Saturday at Nippert Stadium on the campus of the University of Cincinnati in a regional semifinal playoff game.


PARRKER WESTPHAL, a senior cornerback at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders lost 21-7 at home to Chicago Marist High School on Friday night in a Class 8A second-round playoff game. Westphal recovered a teammate's fumble in the end zone for the Raiders' lone score. Westphal, who has Arizona State, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State and Vanderbilt among his leaders, helped lead the Raiders to a 10-1 record this season.




RENELL WREN, a senior defensive end from Lutheran North (Mo.) High School, and the Crusaders beat Brentwood (Mo.) High School 26-20 last Wednesday night in a Class 2 second-round playoff game before beating Carnahan (Mo.) High School 49-8 on Monday night in a third-round playoff game. Wren, who has offers from Illinois, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Kansas, Memphis, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Purdue and Toledo, and the Crusaders (8-4) will play Caruthersville (Mo.) High School at 1:30 p.m. this Saturday in a state quarterfinal game.
