Weekend Wrap — Dudek delivers in playoff opener

Every week during the football season, Illinois football beat writer MATT DANIELS will give a wrap-up of how Illini commits and targets fared during the previous weekend’s games.



Here are a few notes from Week 11.  





THE COMMITS


NICK ALLEGRETTI, a center at Lincoln-Way East (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on March 11, and the Griffins beat Plainfield (Ill.) East High School 31-0 on Friday night at home in a Class 7A first-round playoff game. Allegretti and the Griffins (8-2) will play at Oswego (Ill.) East High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday.


GERONIMO ALLISON, a wide receiver at Iowa Western Community College who committed to Illinois on July 25, and the Reivers won 17-0 at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn on Saturday afternoon in their regular season finale. Allison had six catches for 30 yards for the 10-1 Reivers.

CHAYCE CROUCH, a senior quarterback at Newark (Ohio) Catholic High School who committed to Illinois on May 2, and the Green Wave won 33-12 at Utica (Ohio) High School on Friday night to close out the regular season. Crouch was 10 of 21 for 136 yards passing, including a 57-yard touchdown pass, and had 58 yards rushing, including touchdown runs of 3 and 2 yards. Crouch and the Green Wave (9-1) will open up the Division VI state playoffs against Bellaire (Ohio) High School at home at 6:30 p.m. this Friday.

PETER CVIJANOVIC, a senior offensive tackle at East Coast Prep in Great Barrington, Mass., who committed to Illinois on Oct. 7, and East Coast Prep beat Western New England University's junior varsity team 66-14 on Sunday in Springfield, Mass. Cvijanovic and East Coast Prep (6-4) will play this Saturday at Hudson Valley (N.Y.) Community College.



MATT DOMER, a senior running back at Chicago Mt. Carmel High School who committed to Illinois on July 2, and the Caravan opened the Class 7A playoffs with a 49-6 home win against Lisle (Ill.) Benet Academy on Friday night at Gately Stadium in Chicago. Domer rushed for two touchdowns in his first game back after missing three weeks with a knee injury. Domer and the Caravan (9-1) will host Chicago St. Rita High School at 7 p.m. this Friday at Gately Stadium in Chicago. 



MIKE DUDEK, a senior wide receiver at Naperville (Ill.) Neuqua Valley High School who committed to Illinois on April 3, and the Wildcats beat O'Fallon (Ill.) High School 38-7 on Friday night at home to start the Class 8A playoffs off with a first-round victory. Dudek had eight receptions for 185 yards and three touchdowns. Dudek and the Wildcats (9-1) will host Chicago Simeon High School at 6 p.m. this Saturday in a second-round game.



JORDAN FRAZIER, a senior tight end at Lighthouse Christian Academy in Springfield, Mo., who committed to Illinois on Oct. 6, and the 9-2 Chargers won 28-12 on Friday night against Christ Prep Academy (Kan.) at Blue Valley (Kan.) West High School.

JULIAN HYLTON, a senior athlete at Lincoln-Way North (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on July 9 and is projected to play cornerback at Illinois, and the Phoenix beat Thorton (Ill.) Fractional South High School 41-6 at home on Friday night in a Class 6A first-round playoff game. Hylton rushed for 159 yards on 30 carries and had four touchdown runs of 1, 24, 1 and 8 yards. Hylton and the Phoenix (9-1) will square off against Olympia Fields (Ill.) Rich Central High School at 7 p.m. this Friday in a second-round playoff game. 



HENRY McGREW, a senior linebacker at Blue Valley (Kan.) High School who committed to Illinois on June 18, and the Tigers lost 18-17 at home against Blue Valley (Kan.) West High School on Friday night. McGrew had 14 tackles and forced a fumble. McGrew and the Tigers (6-3) open up the Class 5A playoffs with a first-round game at 7 p.m. on Friday at Tecusmeh (Kan.) Shawnee Heights High School.



TITO ODENIGBO, a senior defensive lineman at Centerville (Ohio) High School who committed to Illinois on March 11, and the Elks beat Springfield (Ohio) High School 41-6 to end the regular season on Friday night. Odenigbo had three tackles. Odenigbo and the Elks (8-2) will host Dublin (Ohio) Coffman High School at 6 p.m. this Saturday.



MALIK TURNER, a senior wide receiver from Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart-Griffin High School who committed to Illinois on June 24, and the Cyclones began the Class 5A playoffs with a 45-7 home win against Peoria (Ill.) Richwoods High School on Friday night. Turner had five catches for 75 yards, including touchdown grabs of 39 and 36 yards. Turner and the Cyclones (10-0) will play at Chatham-Glenwood (Ill.) High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday in a second-round playoff game.



THE TARGETS

TRENTON BALL, a senior tight end from Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert High School, and the Titans beat Oklahoma City Western Heights High School 64-21 at home on Friday night. Ball, who has an offer from Illinois and interest from Indiana, Kansas State, Missouri and Purdue, and the Titans (7-2) will host El Reno (Okla.) High School this Friday night.



KEI BECKHAM, a junior cornerback from Trotwood-Madison (Ohio) High School, and the Rams won 41-6 at Butler (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Beckham, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Central Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota and Western Michigan, and the Rams (7-2) begin Division III playoffs with a first-round game at Franklin (Ohio) High School at 6 p.m. this Friday.



TERRY BECKNER JR., a junior defensive end from East St. Louis (Ill.) High School, and the Flyers won 33-6 at Normal (Ill.) West High School on Saturday afternoon. Beckner, who has offers from Illinois, Cincinnati, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio State, Purdue, Syracuse and Tennessee, and the Flyers (7-3) will host Normal (Ill.) Community High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday in a second-round game.



JACK BENEVENTI, a junior quarterback at Benet (Ill.) Academy, and the Redwings lost 49-6 to Chicago Mt. Carmel at Gately Stadium in Chicago on Friday night during a Class 7A first-round playoff loss. Beneventi was 12 of 26 for 120 yards and one interception. Beneventi, who has offers from Illinois, Iowa, Louisville, Massachusetts, Notre Dame and Western Michigan, and Benet ended its season with a 6-4 record.



BRENNAN BOSCH, a junior guard from St. Charles (Ill.) East High School, and the Fighting Saints ended their season with a 35-7 loss at Lincolnshire (Ill.) Stevenson High School on Saturday. Bosch, who has an offer from Illinois and interest from Minnesota, and the Fighting Saints finished with a 6-4 record this season.



MILES BOYKIN, a junior wide receiver at New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic High School, and the Celtics won 25-14 at defending Class 6A state champion Crete-Monee (Ill.) High School on Saturday afternoon during a Class 6A first-round playoff game. Boykin, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Mississippi and Western Michigan, along with interest from Iowa, LSU, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State and Vanderbilt, and the Celtics (6-4) will play at Quincy (Ill.) High School at 3 p.m. this Saturday in a second-round playoff game.


DRE BROWN, a junior running back at DeKalb (Ill.) High School, and the Barbs lost 48-6 at Batavia (Ill.) High School in a Class 6A first-round playoff game on Friday night to end DeKalb's season. Brown rushed for 185 yards, including a 69-yard touchdown run for the Barbs' only score. DeKalb finished 5-5. Brown has offers from Illinois, Kent State, Northern Illinois and Toledo. 



JB BUTLER, a senior guard from Joliet Catholic (Ill.) Academy, and the Hilltoppers opened the Class 5A playoffs with a 69-12 home win against Chicago Urban Prep Charter/Englewood on Saturday. Butler, who has offers from several FCS schools and interest from Illinois, Indiana, Miami (Ohio), North Carolina State, Northern Illinois and Syracuse, and Joliet Catholic (9-1) will host Maple Park (Ill.) Kaneland High School at 7 p.m. this Saturday.



NICK CONNER, a junior linebacker from Dublin (Ohio) Scioto High School, and the Irish ended their regular season with a 41-27 home win against Canal Winchester (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Conner rushed for 29 yards on five carries, including a 2-yard touchdown run, while compiling 7.5 tackles. Conner, who has offers from Illinois and Kentucky, along with interest from Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue, and the Irish (6-4) will play at Worthington (Ohio) Kilbourne High School at 6:30 p.m. this Friday in a Division II first-round playoff game.



MICAH DEW-TREADWAY, a junior defensive end at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders beat Chicago Heights (Ill.) Bloom Township High School 48-12 at home on Saturday in a Class 8A first-round playoff game. Dew-Treadway, who has an offer from Mississippi State and interest from Illinois, Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Mississippi and Texas, and the Raiders (10-0) will host Chicago Marist High School at 7 p.m. this Friday in a second-round game.




DAVID EDWARDS, a junior quarterback at Downers Grove (Ill.) North High School, and the Trojans won 28-0 on Friday night against Chicago Whitney Young High School at Lane Stadium in Chicago during a Class 7A first-round playoff game. Edwards missed the game with an injury. Edwards, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Syracuse and Vanderbilt, and Downers Grove North (6-4) will play at Wheaton (Ill.) Warrenville South High School at 7 p.m. this Friday. 





JEFF GEORGE JR., a senior quarterback at Warren Central (Ind.) High School, and the Warriors won 14-7 at Indianapolis North Central High School on Friday night in a Class 6A second-round sectional playoff game. George, who has a grayshirt scholarship offer from Illinois and interest from Akron, Cincinnati, Indiana, Louisville and Purdue, and the Warriors (8-3) will play at Indianapolis Pike High School at 6 p.m. this Friday in a regional final game.



DARRIN HALL, a junior running back at Austintown (Ohio) Fitch High School, and the Falcons won 19-14 at Youngstown (Ohio) Cardinal Mooney High School on Friday night. Hall rushed for 98 yards on 21 carries in the win. Hall, who has offers from Illinois, Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan State, Nebraska and Purdue, and the Falcons (10-0) will host Marysville (Ohio) High School at 6 p.m. this Saturday in a Division I first-round playoff game.

JACK HOCKADAY, a junior athlete at Maroa-Forsyth (Ill.) High School, and the Trojans beat Tuscola (Ill.) High School 38-2 at home on Saturday during a Class 1A first-round playoff game. Hockaday had a 13-yard touchdown run in the win. Hockaday, who has offers from Illinois, Duke, Indiana, Iowa and Nebraska, and the Trojans (10-0) will play at Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond High School at 1:30 p.m. this Saturday in a second-round game.



KRAIG HOWE, a junior defensive tackle from Kettering (Ohio) Archbishop Alter High School, and the Knights beat Dayton (Ohio) Chaminade Julienne High School 40-14 on Saturday at Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne High School. Howe, who has offers from Illinois, Miami (Ohio), Pittsburgh and Toledo, along with interest from Arkansas, Duke, Indiana, Iowa, Northwestern and Ohio State, among others, and the Knights (9-1) will host Cincinnati Wyoming High School in a Division IV first-round playoff game at 6:30 p.m. this Friday.



ADOREE' JACKSON, a senior cornerback and wide receiver at Junipero Serra (Calif.) High School, and the Cavaliers beat La Canada (Calif.) St. Francis High School 35-21 at home on Friday night. Jackson rushed for 58 yards on seven carries, caught three passes for 106 yards and had a 65-yard interception return in the win. Jackson, who has offers from Illinois, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA and USC, and the Cavaliers (9-0) will end the regular season this Friday night at Santa Fe Springs (Calif.) St. Paul High School.



RODERICK JOHNSON, a senior offensive tackle from Hazelwood (Mo.) Central High School, and the Hawks beat St. Charles (Mo.) Francis Howell North High School 41-7 on Saturday in a Class 6 first-round playoff game. Johnson, who has offers from Illinois, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas State, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Wisconsin, and the Hawks (10-0) will play DeSmet (Mo.) High School this Saturday in a second-round playoff game.





SIMEON LANE, a junior defensive tackle from Cincinnati St. Xavier High School, and the Bombers lost 24-16 at Louisville (Ky.) St. Xavier High School on Friday night. Lane had five tackles, including a sack. Lane, who has offers from Illinois and Toledo, along with interest from Boston College, Minnesota and Northwestern, and the Bombers (5-5) will open up the Division I playoffs with a first-round game at Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller High School at 6 p.m. this Saturday.

HUNTER LITTLEJOHN, a junior guard at Olentangy (Ohio) Liberty High School, and the Patriots beat Thomas Worthington (Ohio) High School 41-10 on Friday night at home. Littlejohn, who has offers from Illinois, Boston College and Indiana, and the Patriots ended the season with a 5-5 record.



TRAVIS LOCK, a running back at Nassau (N.Y.) Community College, and the Lions beat Globe Institute of Technology (N.Y.) 49-6 on Friday night at home. Lock rushed for 65 yards on 14 carries. Lock, who has offers from Illinois, Arizona State, Georgia State and South Florida, and the Lions (9-1) will host ASA (N.Y.) College this Saturday to end the regular season.




ANTHONY McKEE, a junior linebacker at Walnut Ridge (Ohio) High School, and the Scots lost 40-7 at home to Columbus (Ohio) Independence High School on Friday night to end the regular season. McKee, who has offers from Illinois, Arkansas, Boston College, Bowling Green, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Toledo and West Virginia, and the Scots ended their season with a 7-3 record.



GABE MEGGINSON, a junior offensive tackle at Jacksonville (Ill.) High School, and the Crimsons won 37-6 at Marion (Ill.) High School on Saturday afternoon during a Class 5A first-round playoff game. Megginson, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Indiana, Northern Illinois and Wisconsin, and the Crimsons (7-3) will host Normal (Ill.) University High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday.




KENTRAIL MORAN, a sophomore running back at O'Fallon (Ill.) High School, and the Panthers ended their season after a 38-7 loss at Naperville (Ill.) Neuqua Valley High School on Friday night. Moran, who has an offer from Illinois and Northern Illinois along with interest from Alabama, Cincinnati, Florida, Indiana, Iowa and Tennessee, and O'Fallon finished its season at 5-5.





FLYNN NAGEL, a junior wide receiver at Chicago Marist High School, and the RedHawks beat Plainfield (Ill.) South High School 64-28 on Friday night at home in a Class 8A first-round playoff game. Nagel had two touchdown receptions. Nagel, who has offers from lllinois, Indiana, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan, along with interest from Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State and Vanderbilt, and the RedHawks (7-3) play at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School at 7 p.m. this Friday in a second-round playoff game.



QUINN OSELAND, a junior offensive tackle at Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, and the Cyclones opened the Class 5A playoffs with a 45-7 home win against Peoria (Ill.) Richwoods High School on Friday night. Oseland, who has an offer from Illinois and interest from Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin, and the Cyclones (10-0) will play at Chatham-Glenwood (Ill.) High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday in a second-round playoff game.



MARTESSE PATTERSON, a senior guard from Marion-Franklin (Ohio) High School, and the Red Devils won 37-12 at Columbus (Ohio) South High School on Friday night. Patterson, who has offers from Illinois, Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Purdue and Toledo, and the Red Devils (9-1) will open up the Division III playoffs with a first-round home game against Dover (Ohio) High School at 6:30 p.m. this Friday.



LEONARD ROSS, a junior running back at LaGrange (Ill.) Lyons Twp. High School, and the Lions saw their season end with a 20-16 loss to Chicago Simeon High School on Saturday at Gately Stadium in Chicago in a Class 8A first-round playoff game. Ross rushed for 77 yards on 17 carries, including touchdown runs of 13 and 3 yards, for the Lions, who finished with a 5-5 record. Ross holds an offer from Illinois and interest from Ball State, Indiana, Minnesota, Western Michigan and Wisconsin.

TREVOR RUHLAND, a junior offensive tackle at Cary-Grove (Ill.) High School, and the Trojans won 28-17 at Rockford (Ill.) Guilford High School in a Class 6A first-round playoff game. Ruhland, who has offers from Illinois, Duke, Minnesota, Northern Illinois and Northwestern, and the Trojans (7-3) will host Rockford (Ill.) Boylan Catholc High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday in a second-round playoff game.




NATEREACE STRONG, a junior running back from East St. Louis (Ill.) High School, and the Flyers opened the Class 6A playoffs with a 33-6 win at Normal (Ill.) West High School on Saturday afternoon. Strong, who has offers from Illinois, Florida State, Kansas, Michigan State, Missouri and Ohio State, and the Flyers (7-3) will host Normal (Ill.) Community High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday.



NILE SYKES, a senior linebacker at Lombard Montini (Ill.) High School, and the Broncos beat Chicago Morgan Park High School 43-6 on Saturday afternoon in a Class 5A first-round playoff game. Sykes, who has offers from Illinois, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, Iowa State, Missouri, Northern Illinois, Purdue, South Florida, Syracuse, Toledo and Western Michigan, and the Broncos (10-0) will play at Woodstock (Ill.) Marian Catholic at 6 p.m. this Saturday in a second-round playoff game.



ELIJAH TAYLOR, a junior defensive end from Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller High School, and the Fighting Crusaders won 42-14 at Louisville (Ky.) Trinity High School on Friday night. Taylor had six tackles, including three sacks, in the win. Taylor, who has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio and West Virginia, and the Fighting Crusaders (9-1) open the Division I state playoffs at 6 p.m. this Saturday at home against Cincinnati St. Xavier High School.


PARRKER WESTPHAL, a senior cornerback at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders beat Chicago Heights (Ill.) Bloom Township High School 48-12 on Saturday at home in a Class 8A first-round playoff game. Westphal had an interception in the win. Westphal counts Arizona State, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State and Vanderbilt among his leaders. Bolingbrook (10-0) will host Chicago Marist High School at 7 p.m. this Friday in a second-round playoff game.




RENELL WREN, a senior defensive end from Lutheran North (Mo.) High School, and the Crusaders won their Class 2 playoff opener 44-7 on Thursday night against Herculaneum (Mo.) High School. Wren, who has offers from Illinois, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Kansas, Memphis, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Purdue and Toledo, and the Crusaders (6-4) will play Brentwood (Mo.) High School this Wednesday in a second-round playoff game.
