Recruiting Wrap (March 2014)

Postseason nearly here for in-state Illini recruits, targets

Postseason basketball has already started for several Illinois recruiting targets outside the Illinois state line.

The rest of in-state recruits and targets for John Groce’s team start play next week.

Here’s a rundown on where to catch the Illinois prep players the Illini have either signed, received commitments from or are pursuing:

Signee

Nagel: 'I like Illinois a lot'

Much has changed in Flynn Nagel’s life since his junior football season five days before Thanksgiving.

He goes to a different school now.

Illini target Megginson sees offer list grow

Gabe Megginson spouts off key recruiting dates like he's gone through the process for years.

The Class of 2015 left tackle from Jacksonville probably feels like it with all the recruiting attention he has received lately.

Matthews picks Kentucky

Five-star combo guard Charles Matthews from Chicago St. Rita verbally committed to Kentucky on Wednesday morning at his high school.

Weekend Wrap — Brunson puts on a show

Every week during the high school basketball season, recruiting blogger MATT DANIELS will give a wrap-up of how Illini commits and targets fared during the previous week's worth of games.

THE RECRUITS

Jordan rising to the challenge

Pretty much everyone at Plainfield East High School in suburban Chicago knows Aaron Jordan.

Becoming the first boys’ basketball player at the relatively new high school to commit to Illinois has a way of making your name a household one.

Illinois back in Brunson race

The recruitment of Jalen Brunson probably won't take on the drama associated with, say, the recruitment of Cliff Alexander.

Mention the Chicago Curie big man who picked Kansas ahead of Illinois three months ago and emotions are bound to swirl among Illinois fans.

THE RECRUITS

Big Ten football recruits worth watching

Here are 10 Big Ten football recruits in the Class of 2014 to take note of:

1. Raekwon McMillan, Ohio State. Looking for the next great linebacker for
the Buckeyes? Look no further. McMillan is the lone five-star recruit in
an otherwise loaded and deep class for Urban Meyer. The third-year coach
at Ohio State was able to convince the Georgia native to head north

Williams, Jordan on Top 100 list

At the moment, John Groce has two available scholarships still left for the Class of 2015.

Of course, that number can change between now and mid-November, when the Class of 2015 recruits can first sign letters of intent.

Just look at what transpired after the 2012-13 season for Illinois with the transfers coming and going on a frequent basis.
