Groce checks on Brunson again
The Illinois men's basketball team opens the Big Ten Tournament against Indiana in a little more than 24 hours.
While John Groce has focused much of his time this week getting ready for the Hoosiers, the second-year Illinois coach is staying busy on the recruiting trail, too, prior to Thursday's 11 a.m. tip at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Tuesday night found Groce out on the road recruiting, up in Lake Zurich in northern Illinois. Groce caught Jalen Brunson and his Stevenson team take down Arlington Heights St. Viator 84-73 in a Class 4A sectional semifinal game.
And Groce saw Brunson put on quite the performance, much like the talented Class of 2015 point guard has done multiple times in the last four months.
Here's a quick glance at several stories Tuesday involving recruits who are targets for the Illini:
Brunson poured in 34 points for the Patriots, with Michael O'Brien from the Chicago Sun-Times and Mike Helfgot from the Chicago Tribune there chronicling the latest exploits from the premier point guard in the junior class in Illinois.
Class of 2015 power forward Carlton Bragg and his Cleveland Villa-Angela St. Joseph Vikings get set for a Division III regional semifinal game against Canton Central Catholic tonight in Canton, Ohio. Get primed for that game right here.
Two Class of 2015 guards in Illinois who the Illini are interested in also kept their season alive on Tuesday night. Luwane Pipkins of Chicago Bogan and Kain Harris from Chicago Morgan Park will play for Class 3A sectional titles on Friday night, with Pipkins almost single-handedly carrying the Bengals through another round.
