Where to catch Illini recruits, targets in action tonight

Illinois signee Michael Finke and his Centennial teammates take on rival Champaign Central at 7 tonight in a Class 3A regional championship game at Central's historic Combes Gym.

If you're a sports fan in Champaign, about the only way you wouldn't know that is if you have spent the past week cut off from the world. I

f that's the case, welcome back.

But Finke isn't the only future or potential future Illini trying to guide his high school team in a crucial postseason game.

Here's a look at where Finke and the rest of the talent John Groce is pursuing play tonight:

Michael Finke, Champaign (Ill.) Centennial High School

What: Class 3A regional championship game

When: 7 p.m.

D.J. Williams, Chicago Simeon High School

What: Class 4A regional championship game

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Palos Heights Shepard High School

Who they're playing ... Palos Hills Stagg

If the Wolverines win tonight ... a sectional semifinal showdown against Chicago Whitney Young High School would most likely ensue for the four-time defending state champions and Williams, a Class of 2015 Illinois commit, at Chicago Marist High School at 7 p.m. next Wednesday.

Carlton Bragg, Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School

What: Division III district championship game

Jalen Brunson, Lincolnshire (Ill.) Stevenson High School

If the Patriots win tonight ... they could very well get a rematch against Zion-Benton High School, the only team to hand the 27-1 Patriots a loss this season. A spot is on the line for a sectional semifinal berth at the Lake Zurich Sectional for Brunson, a Class of 2015 Illinois target, and Stevenson.

If the Wildkits win tonight ... the senior-heavy squad will advance to a sectional semifinal game at Maine South High School at 7 p.m. next Wednesday, likely against Maine South. Eastern, a Class of 2017 Illinois target at point guard, has not had much of a factor the past month of the season for Evanston.

Hyron Edwards, East Chicago (Ind.) Central High School

What: Class 4A sectional championship game

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: East Chicago Central High School

Who they're playing ... Lake Central High School

Kain Harris, Chicago Morgan Park High School

What: Class 3A regional championship game

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Dolton (Ill.) Thornridge High School

Who they're playing ... Country Club Hills (Ill.) Hillcrest High School

If the Mustangs win tonight ... the defending 3A state champions will continue their quest to Peoria. Harris, a Class of 2015 Illinois target at guard, and Morgan Park would play either Rich East or Rich South High School at 7 p.m. next Tuesday in a sectional semifinal game at Rich East High School in Park Forest.

Luwane Pipkins, Chicago Bogan High School

What: Class 3A regional championship game

When: 7 p.m.

Who they're playing ... Chicago Lindblom High School

If the Bengals win tonight ... they'll feel vindication. Ruled ineligible for the postseason two weeks ago for playing too many games, Bogan was reinstated just before the postseason began. A victory by Pipkins, a Class of 2015 Illinois target at guard, and his squad will advance Bogan into a sectional semifinal game at 7 p.m. next Tuesday against either Chicago Vocational or Chicago University High School at Chicago Vocational.

What: Class 5, District 8 championship game

Hazelwood Central High School or Florissant (Mo.) McCluer North High School at 7:45 p.m. next Wednesday in a sectional playoff game at St. Charles (Mo.) West High School.
