Weekend Wrap: Brown, Corbin run rampant

Each week during the football season, Illinois football beat writer Matt Daniels will recap how commits and targets for Tim Beckman's program fared during the previous weekend's worth of games.

The commits

DRE BROWN, a senior running back at DeKalb (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on March 7, and the Barbs won 54-20 at West Chicago (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Brown rushed for 216 yards on 23 carries and five touchdowns. Brown and the Barbs (2-0) get back in action at 7:15 p.m. this Friday at McHenry (Ill.) High School.

REGGIE CORBIN, a senior running back at Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga College High School who committed to Illinois on May 27, and the Eagles won 31-14 at Centreville (Va.) High School on Friday night in a game televised on ESPNU. Corbin produced 211 rushing yards on only 14 carries and two touchdowns. Corbin and the Eagles (2-0) resume play at North Bethesda (Md.) Georgetown Prep at noon this Saturday.  

ANDREW DAVIS, a sophomore tight end at Iowa Western Community College who committed to Illinois on June 1, and the Reivers beat Butler (Kan.) Community College 36-30 in overtime on Saturday at home. Davis had two catches for 12 yards and a touchdown. Davis and the Reivers (2-0) are slated to play at 1 p.m. this Saturday at Highland (Kan.) Community College.

HENRY ENYENIHI, a sophomore running back at Sacramento (Calif.) City College who committed to Illinois on July 3, and the Panthers opened the season with a 48-33 home loss against Laney (Calif.) College on Saturday night. Enyenihi rushed for 107 yards on 20 carries. Enyenihi and the Panthers (0-1) play again at 9 p.m. this Saturday at Foothill (Calif.) College.

JIMMY FITZGERALD, a senior quarterback at Champaign (Ill.) Centennial High School who committed to Illinois on Feb. 1, and the Chargers beat Marion (Ill.) High School 42-13 on Friday night at home. Fitzgerald went 14 of 16 for 195 yards and one interception, along with adding 39 rushing yards on eight carries and three touchdowns, but injured his knee and didn’t play after halftime. Fitzgerald and the Chargers (2-0) continue their season at 7 p.m. this Friday at home against Danville (Ill.) High School.

ZACH HEATH, a sophomore offensive lineman at American River (Calif.) College who committed to Illinois on July 1, and the Beavers beat Modesto (Calif.) Junior College 37-27 at home on Saturday night. Heath and the Beavers (1-0) play at 3 p.m. this Saturday at DeAnza (Calif.) College.

ZEKE MARTIN, a senior offensive lineman at Medina (Ohio) High School who committed to Illinois on June 18, and the Bees won 49-7 at home against Eastlake (Ohio) North High School on Friday night. Martin and the Bees (1-1) return to the field at 6 p.m. this Friday at Wadsworth (Ohio) High School.

SAM MAYS, a senior wide receiver at The Kinkaid School in Houston who committed to Illinois on July 6, and the Falcons beat Bay City (Texas) High School 42-14 at home on Friday night. Mays and the Falcons (1-1) get back in action at 7 p.m. at Houston St. Pius X High School this Friday.

GABE MEGGINSON, a senior offensive lineman at Jacksonville (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on April 25, and the Crimsons beat Springfield (Ill.) Southeast High School 29-13 at home on Saturday. Megginson and the Crimsons (1-1) play again at 7 p.m. this Friday at Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart-Griffin High School.

A.D. MILLER, a senior wide receiver at Dallas Bishop Dunne Catholic School who committed to Illinois on July 5, and the Falcons were off this weekend. Miller and the Falcons (1-0) are slated to host Dallas Madison High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

PAT NELSON, a senior defensive back at Chicago Hales Franciscan High School who committed to Illinois on June 25, and the Spartans beat Chicago Noble/Comer High School 56-6 on Friday night at home. Nelson had two touchdowns in the win. Nelson and the Spartans (2-0) are scheduled to host Chicago DePaul College Prep this Saturday.

CALEB REAMS, a senior tight end at Gurnee (Ill.) Warren High School who committed to Illinois on Aug. 9, and the Blue Devils lost 14-7 at Winnetka (Ill.) New Trier High School on Friday night. Reams had 37 receiving yards, including a 20-yard touchdown catch. Reams and the Blue Devils (1-1) play at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Lincolnshire (Ill.) Stevenson High School.

ADAM SOLOMON, a senior offensive lineman at Indianapolis Bishop Chatard High School who committed to Illinois on May 31, and the Trojans won 20-7 at Indianapolis Roncali High School on Friday night. The Trojans (3-0) resume play at 6 p.m. this Friday against Indianapolis Cathedral at Indianapolis Lawrence Central High School.


Targets to watch

WESLEY ANNAN, a senior defensive tackle at Lake Forest (Ill.) Academy, and the Caxys lost 37-7 at Libertyville (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Annan, who has offers from Ball State, Boston College, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Duke, Illinois, Maryland, Miami (Ohio), Mississippi State, New Mexico, Rutgers, Syracuse, Toledo, Tulane, Virginia, Western Michigan and Wyoming, and the Caxys (0-2) get back in action at 2 p.m. this Saturday at home against Aurora (Ill.) Christian High School.

DORANCE ARMSTRONG, a senior defensive end at Galena Park (Texas) North Shore High School, and the Mustangs lost 42-17 at Manvel (Texas) High School on Friday night. Armstrong, who has offers from California, Houston, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Memphis, Michigan State, Northwestern and Oregon State, and the Mustangs (1-1) are slated to play at Houston Spring Westfield High School at 7 p.m. this Thursday.

RASHOD BERRY, a senior defensive end at Lorain (Ohio) High School, and the Titans won 22-13 at Elyria (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Berry hauled in five passes for 81 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown grab. Berry, who has offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, Syracuse and Toledo, and the Titans (1-1 resume play at 6 p.m. this Friday when they host Toledo (Ohio) Scott High School.

TUF BORLAND, a junior linebacker at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders won 51-14 at Romeoville (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Borland, who has offers from Illinois and Massachusetts, and the Raiders (1-1) have their next game at 1 p.m. this Saturday at Joliet (Ill.) Central High School.

BRYAN BROKOP, a junior offensive lineman at New Lenox (Ill.) Lincoln-Way West High School, and the Warriors beat Chicago Heights (Ill.) Bloom Township High School 17-14 on Friday night at home. Brokop, who has offers from Duke, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, North Carolina State and Syracuse, and the Warriors (2-0) get back in action at 7 p.m. this Friday at Dolton (Ill.) Thornridge High School.

DESMOND CAIN, a senior cornerback at Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage School, and the Stallions won 38-0 at Coral Gables (Fla.) Gulliver Prep on Friday. Ford, who has offers from Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, Illinois and Syracuse, and the Cardinals (3-0) are back in action at 7 p.m. this Friday at Republic (Mo.) High School.

SEAN FOSTER, a junior offensive lineman at Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel High School, and the Corsairs won 20-13 at Chicago Phillips High School on Saturday. Foster, who has offers from Buffalo, California, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Nebraska, Nevada, Northern Illinois, Purdue, Syracuse and Toledo, and the Corsairs (1-1) are set to host Joliet (Ill.) Catholic High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

STEVEN FRANK, a junior quarterback at Oswego (Ill.) High School, and the Panthers lost 27-20 at home on Friday night to Aurora (Ill.) Waubonsie Valley High School. Frank only had 29 passing yards before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with an injury. Frank, who has offers from Illinois and Miami (Ohio), and the Panthers (1-1) resume play at 7 p.m. this Friday at home against Plainfield (Ill.) Central High School.

CHRIS FRENCH, a Class of 2015 tight end at Saddleback Community College in Mission Viejo, Calif., and the Gauchos opened their season with a 27-24 loss at Cerritos (Calif.) College on Saturday night. French, who has offers from Illinois and Iowa State, and the Gauchos (0-1) get back in action at 8 p.m. this Saturday at home against Riverside (Calif.) City College.

CHRIS HART, a senior linebacker at Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas High School, and the Raiders were off this weekend. Hart, who has offers from Boston College, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Massachusetts, Michigan State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Syracuse, Western Michigan and Wisconsin, and the Raiders (1-0) play at 3 p.m. this Saturday. St. Thomas Aquinas travels to Army's Michie Stadium to play Don Bosco Prep out of Ramsey, N.J.  

NAQUAN JONES, a junior defensive tackle at Evanston (Ill.) High School, and the Wildkits beat Crete-Monee (Ill.) High School 14-7 at home on Friday night. Jones, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana and Iowa, and the Wildkits (1-1) return to the field at 7 p.m. this Friday at Highland Park (Ill.) High School.  

JAMAL MILAN, a senior defensive tackle at Chicago Al Raby High School, and the Raiders won 36-12 at Chicago Urban Prep Academy/West on Friday night. Milan, who has offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Maryland, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Syracuse and Western Michigan, and the Raiders  (2-0) resume play at noon this Saturday at home against Roselle (Ill.) Lake Park High School.

KENTRAIL MORAN, a junior running back at O'Fallon (Ill.) High School, and the Panthers lost 24-10 to Lisle (Ill.) Benet Academy at home on Saturday. Moran was limited to 19 yards on 15 carries in the loss. Moran, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Northern Illinois and Syracuse, and the Panthers (1-1) return to the field at 7 p.m. this Friday at Alton (Ill.) High School.

QUENTIN MOON, a senior linebacker at Indianapolis Pike High School, and the Red Devils lost 53-50 at home to Indianapolis Ben Davis High School on Saturday. Moon had an interception in the loss. Moon, who has an offer from Illinois, and the Red Devils (2-1) will play at Carmel (Ind.) High School at 6 p.m. this Friday.

CHARLIE ROGERS, a Class of 2015 defensive back at Iowa Western Community College, and the Reivers beat Butler (Kan.) Community College 36-30 on Saturday at home. Rogers had five tackles in the win. Rogers, who has offers from Georgia State, Idaho, Illinois, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, North Texas, Ohio, Old Dominion, South Alabama and Utah State, and the Reivers (2-0) are slated to play at 1 p.m. this Saturday at Highland (Kan.) Community College.

DONTA THOMPSON, a senior wide receiver at Ennis (Texas) High School, and the Lions lost 45-42 to Denton (Texas) Guyer High School at home on Friday night. Thompson had seven receptions for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Thompson, who has offers from Arkansas State, Colorado, Illinois, Texas State, Texas San Antonio and Texas El Paso, and the Lions (0-2) resume play at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at home against Waxahachie (Texas) High School.

BRECK TURNER, a senior running back at Norwalk (Ohio) High School, and the Truckers beat Cleveland John Hay High School 48-20 at home in a game that started Friday night and ended Saturday after inclement weather suspended the game on Friday night. Turner compiled 260 rushing yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns. Turner, who has offers from Akron, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Kent State, Marshall, Minnesota, Navy, Toledo and Western Michigan, and the Truckers (2-0) are set to host Collins (Ohio) Western Reserve High School at 6 p.m. this Friday.

NOAH TURNER, a junior tight end at Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel High School, and the Corsairs won 20-13 at Chicago Phillips High School on Saturday. Turner had a 19-yard touchdown catch in the win. Turner, who has offers from Illinois and Indiana, and the Corsairs (1-1) are slated to host Joliet (Ill.) Catholic High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

KESHAWN VAUGHN, a senior running back at Nashville (Tenn.) Pearl Cohn High School, and the Firebirds beat Nashville (Tenn.) Stratford High School 59-6 on Friday night at home. Vaughn racked up 234 yards on only eight carries and four touchdowns. Vaughn, who has offers from Arkansas State, California, East Carolina, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, Purdue, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin, and the Firebirds (3-0) resume action at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Nashville (Tenn.) Montgomery Bell Academy.

JUSTICE WILLIAMS, a senior linebacker at Frisco (Texas) Wakeland High School, and the Wolverines won 56-42 at Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy High School on Friday night. Williams, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, North Texas, SMU, Tulsa and Virginia, and the Wolverines (2-0) are slated to play Frisco (Texas) Lone Star High School at 7 p.m. this Thursday at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.
