Weekend Wrap: Miller injured in win

Each week during the football season, Illinois football beat writer Matt Daniels will recap how commits and targets for Tim Beckman's program fared during the previous weekend's worth of games.

The commits

DRE BROWN, a senior running back at DeKalb (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on March 7, and the Barbs lost 21-7 at home to Geneseo (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Brown and the Barbs (8-1) will open the Class 6A playoffs at 7 p.m. this Friday against Aurora (Ill.) Marmion Academy.

REGGIE CORBIN, a senior running back at Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga College High School who committed to Illinois on May 27, and the Eagles lost 28-20 to Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic High School at home on Saturday afternoon. Corbin rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Corbin and the Eagles (6-2) are back in action at 1 p.m. this Saturday at Forestville (Md.) Bishop McNamara High School.

ANDREW DAVIS, a sophomore tight end at Iowa Western Community College who committed to Illinois on June 1, and the Reivers beat Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College 58-34 at home on Saturday. Davis had one catch for 2 yards in the win. Davis and the Reivers (9-0) return to the field at 1 p.m. this Saturday at Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College.

HENRY ENYENIHI, a sophomore running back at Sacramento (Calif.) City College who committed to Illinois on July 3, and the Panthers beat College of the Siskiyous (Calif.) 35-24 on Saturday at home. Enyenihi rushed for 40 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown in the win. Enyenihi and the Panthers (5-2) resume play at 3 p.m. this Saturday at Butte (Calif.) College.

JIMMY FITZGERALD, a senior quarterback at Champaign (Ill.) Centennial High School who committed to Illinois on Feb. 1, and the Chargers lost 49-21 at home to Normal (Ill.) Community High School on Friday night. Fitzgerald is out for the season after he tore the ACL in his right knee during Centennial's 42-13 win at home against Marion (Ill.) High School on Sept. 6. Fitzgerald finished the season 26 of 33 with 433 passing yards, four touchdowns and one interception while adding 153 rushing yards on 17 carries and five touchdowns. The Chargers (6-3) will host Chatham (Ill.) Glenwood High School at 7 p.m. this Friday in a Class 6A first-round playoff game.

ZACH HEATH, a sophomore offensive lineman at American River (Calif.) College who committed to Illinois on July 1, and the Beavers beat Feather River (Calif.) College 44-8 on Saturday night at home. Heath and the Beavers (7-0) are back in action at 3 p.m. this Saturday at Sierra (Calif.) College.

ZEKE MARTIN, a senior offensive lineman at Medina (Ohio) High School who committed to Illinois on June 18, and the Bees lost 42-16 at Mayfield Heights (Ohio) High School on Friday night at home. Martin and the Bees (2-7) will end the season at 6 p.m. this Friday at home against Elyria (Ohio) High School.

SAM MAYS, a senior wide receiver at The Kinkaid School in Houston who committed to Illinois on July 6, and the Falcons beat Houston St. John’s School 45-0 on Friday night at Rice Stadium. Mays finished with 61 yards on four catches and a touchdown in the win as the Falcons improved to 6-3 on the season.  

GABE MEGGINSON, a senior offensive lineman at Jacksonville (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on April 25, and the Crimsons lost 49-35 at Chatham (Ill.) Glenwood High School on Friday night in the regular season finale. Megginson and the Crimsons finished the season 4-5.

A.D. MILLER, a senior wide receiver at Dallas Bishop Dunne Catholic School who committed to Illinois on July 5, and the Falcons beat Dallas Bishop Lynch High School 38-21 on Friday night at home. Miller had two touchdown catches in the win, but did not play in the second half because of a left knee injury. Miller and the Falcons (8-0) are set to host Midland (Texas) Christian at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

PAT NELSON, a senior defensive back at Chicago Hales Franciscan High School who committed to Illinois on June 25, and the Spartans beat Westchester (Ill.) St. Joseph’s High School 50-20 at Elmhurst College on Friday night. Nelson had three touchdowns in the win. Nelson and the Spartans (6-3) will open the Class 2A playoffs this weekend at Chicago Uplift.

JUWUANE PARCHMAN, a junior wide receiver at Rockford (Ill.) Auburn High School who committed to Illinois on Oct. 25, and the Knights ended the regular season with a 48-0 win at Rockford (Ill.) East High School on Friday night. Parchman recorded two touchdowns in the win. Parchman and the Knights (6-3) start the Class 7A playoffs this weekend at Rockton (Ill.) Hononegah High School.

CALEB REAMS, a senior tight end at Gurnee (Ill.) Warren High School who committed to Illinois on Aug. 9, and the Blue Devils won 42-0 at Zion-Benton (Ill.) High School on Friday night to run their winning streak to six games. Reams had two catches for 61 yards and added a 54-yard touchdown run in the win. Reams and the Blue Devils (7-2) are slated to play at noon this Saturday against Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola Academy in a Class 8A first-round playoff game.

ADAM SOLOMON, a senior offensive lineman at Indianapolis Bishop Chatard High School who committed to Illinois on May 31, and the Trojans won 34-0 at Lebanon (Ind.) High School on Friday night in a Class 4A sectional first-round game. Solomon and the Trojans (8-2) are back in action at 6 p.m. this Friday at Indianapolis Roncali High School in a 4A sectional semifinal game.

JUSTICE WILLIAMS, a senior linebacker at Frisco (Texas) Wakeland High School who committed to Illinois on Sept. 24, and the Wolverines lost 32-28 against Frisco (Texas) Heritage High School on Friday night at Toyota Stadium in Frisco. Williams recorded two catches for 30 yards, including a touchdown, in the loss. Williams and the Wolverines (6-2) resume play at 7 p.m. this Friday against Frisco (Texas) High School at Toyota Stadium.

Targets to watch

WESLEY ANNAN, a senior defensive tackle at Lake Forest (Ill.) Academy, and the Caxys lost 41-7 on Saturday afternoon at home to New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic High School in their final game of the season. Annan, who has offers from Ball State, Boston College, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Duke, Illinois, Maryland, Miami (Ohio), Mississippi State, New Mexico, Rutgers, Syracuse, Toledo, Tulane, Virginia, Western Michigan and Wyoming, and the Caxys finished 3-5.

DORANCE ARMSTRONG, a senior defensive end at Galena Park (Texas) North Shore High School, and the Mustangs won 45-10 on Friday night at home against Baytown (Texas) Sterling High School. Armstrong, who has offers from California, Houston, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Memphis, Michigan State, Northwestern and Oregon State, and the Mustangs (4-5) are back in action at 7 p.m. this Friday at La Porte (Texas) High School.

TUF BORLAND, a junior linebacker at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders shut out Orland Park (Ill.) Carl Sandburg High School 41-0 on Friday night at home. Borland, who has offers from Illinois, Massachusetts, Northwestern and Wisconsin, and the Raiders (6-3) start the Class 8A playoffs with a first-round game at Chicago Heights (Ill.) Bloom Township High School at 1 p.m. this Saturday.

DESMOND CAIN, a senior cornerback at Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage School, and the Stallions beat Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage School 45-35 on Friday night at home. Cain, who has offers from Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Illinois, Rutgers, South Florida, SMU and Virginia, and the Stallions (6-1) will play at West Palm Beach (Fla.) Cardinal Newman High School this Friday.

SHAWN CURTIS, a senior linebacker from Doral (Fla.) Ronald Reagan High School, and the Bison lost 45-14 at home against North Miami (Fla.) High School on Friday night. Curtis, who has offers from Army, Bowling Green, Duke, Florida International, Illinois, Marshall, Massachusetts, Mississippi State and Pittsburgh, and the Bison (5-3) are back in action at 2:30 p.m. this Friday at Hialeah Gardens (Fla.) High School.

TRENARD DAVIS, a senior athlete at Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage School, and the Stallions beat Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage School 45-35 on Friday night at home. Davis, who has offers from Florida Atlantic, Illinois, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, South Florida, SMU and Temple, and the Stallions (6-1) will play at West Palm Beach (Fla.) Cardinal Newman High School this Friday.

SEAN FOSTER, a junior offensive lineman at Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel High School, and the Corsairs beat Niles (Ill.) Notre Dame High School 31-17 on Friday night at home. Foster, who has offers from Buffalo, California, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina State, Northern Illinois, Purdue, Syracuse and Toledo, and the Corsairs (6-3) open the Class 7A playoffs with a 1 p.m. game at Machesney Park (Ill.) Harlem High School.

STEVEN FRANK, a junior quarterback at Oswego (Ill.) High School, and the Panthers won 35-14 at Plainfield (Ill.) South High School on Friday night. Frank completed 12 of 20 passes for 185 yards in the win. Frank, who has offers from Illinois and Miami (Ohio), and the Panthers (8-1) will open up the Class 8A playoffs this weekend at home with a first-round game against Joliet (Ill.) West High School.

DESMOND FITZPATRICK, a junior wide receiver at Farmington (Mich.) High School, and the Falcons lost 38-32 at Walled Lake (Mich.) Central High School on Friday night. Fitzpatrick had a 33-yard touchdown catch in the loss. Fitzpatrick, who has offers from Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio, Purdue, Toledo and Wake Forest, and the Falcons (7-2) will open the Division 2 playoffs this weekend at Oak Park (Mich.) High School.

CHRIS HART, a senior linebacker at Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas High School, and the Raiders shut out Hollywood (Fla.) Hills High School 48-0 on the road Friday night. Hart, who has offers from Boston College, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Massachusetts, Michigan State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Syracuse, Western Michigan and Wisconsin, and the Raiders (7-1) will host Plantation (Fla.) High School at 6 p.m. this Friday.

NAQUAN JONES, a junior defensive tackle at Evanston (Ill.) High School, and the Wildkits finished the season with a 44-30 loss at Winnetka (Ill.) New Trier High School. Jones, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin, and the Wildkits ended with a 3-6 record.

JAMAL MILAN, a senior defensive tackle at Chicago Al Raby High School, and the Raiders beat Chicago Payton High School 32-6 at Lane Stadium in Chicago on Friday night. Milan, who has offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Maryland, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Syracuse and Western Michigan, and the Raiders (5-4) will start the Class 3A playoffs at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Oregon (Ill.) High School in a first-round game.

KENTRAIL MORAN, a junior running back at O'Fallon (Ill.) High School, and the Panthers ended their season with a 48-21 win at Granite City (Ill.) High School on Friday night. Moran, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Northern Illinois and Syracuse, and the Panthers compiled a 4-5 record this season.

QUENTIN MOON, a senior linebacker at Indianapolis Pike High School, and the Red Devils saw their season end with a 49-38 loss at Indianapolis Ben Davis High School in a Class 6A sectional semifinal game. Moon, who has an offer from Illinois, and the Red Devils finished the season 4-6.

CHARLIE ROGERS, a Class of 2015 defensive back at Iowa Western Community College, and the Reivers beat Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College 58-34 at home on Saturday. Rogers, who has offers from Georgia State, Idaho, Illinois, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, North Texas, Ohio, Old Dominion, South Alabama and Utah State, and the Reivers (9-0) are slated to play at 1 p.m. this Saturday at Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College.

DONTA THOMPSON, a senior wide receiver at Ennis (Texas) High School, and the Lions outlasted Lufkin (Texas) High School 55-48 for a road win on Friday night. Thompson had a 25-yard touchdown catch in the win. Thompson, who has offers from Arkansas State, Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico, Purdue, Texas State, Texas San Antonio and Texas El Paso, and the Lions (7-2) return to the field at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Lindale (Texas) High School.

BRECK TURNER, a senior running back at Norwalk (Ohio) High School, and the Truckers won 49-12 at Shelby (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Turner, who has offers from Akron, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Kent State, Marshall, Minnesota, Navy, Toledo and Western Michigan, and the Truckers (9-0) are slated to end the regular season at 6 p.m. this Friday at Willard (Ohio) High School.

NOAH TURNER, a junior tight end at Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel High School, and the Corsairs beat Niles (Ill.) Notre Dame High School 31-17 at home on Friday night. Turner, who has offers from Illinois and Indiana, and the Corsairs (6-3) start the Class 7A playoffs at 1 p.m. this Saturday with a first-round game at Machesney Park (Ill.) Harlem High School.

RAEQUAN WILLIAMS, a senior defensive tackle at DePaul College Prep in Chicago, and the Rams won 14-7 at Chicago St. Ignatius College Prep on Friday night. Williams, who has offers from Akron, Arizona, Arizona State, Boston College, Bowling Green, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Missouri, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Toledo and Western Michigan, and the Rams finished 5-4, but did not qualify for the state playoffs.
