Weekend Wrap: Running backs stand out

Each week during the football season, Illinois football beat writer Matt Daniels will recap how commits and targets for Tim Beckman's program fared during the previous weekend's worth of games.

The commits

DRE BROWN, a senior running back at DeKalb (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on March 7, and the Barbs beat Yorkville (Ill.) High School 26-14 at home on Friday night. Brown rushed for 224 yards and a touchdown in the win that secured DeKalb a Northern Illinois Big 12 East title. Brown and the Barbs (8-0) are slated to end the regular season at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at home against Geneseo (Ill.) High School.

REGGIE CORBIN, a senior running back at Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga College High School who committed to Illinois on May 27, and the Eagles beat Arlington County (Va.) Bishop O'Connell High School 49-21 at home on Saturday afternoon. Corbin rushed for 123 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns in the win. Corbin and the Eagles (6-1) are scheduled to host Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic High School at 2 p.m. this Saturday.

ANDREW DAVIS, a sophomore tight end at Iowa Western Community College who committed to Illinois on June 1, and the Reivers beat College of DuPage (Ill.) 65-27 on Saturday at home. Davis finished with two catches for 25 yards in the win. Davis and the Reivers (8-0) are set to host Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College at 1 p.m. this Saturday.

HENRY ENYENIHI, a sophomore running back at Sacramento (Calif.) City College who committed to Illinois on July 3, and the Panthers won 34-10 at Sierra (Calif.) College on Saturday afternoon. Enyenihi rushed for 91 yards on 10 carries in the victory. Enyenihi and the Panthers (4-2) get back in action at 3 p.m. this Saturday at home against College of the Siskiyous (Calif.).

JIMMY FITZGERALD, a senior quarterback at Champaign (Ill.) Centennial High School who committed to Illinois on Feb. 1, and the Chargers lost 32-13 at home to Normal (Ill.) Community High School on Friday night. Fitzgerald is out for the season after he tore the ACL in his right knee during Centennial's 42-13 win at home against Marion (Ill.) High School on Sept. 6. Fitzgerald finished the season 26 of 33 with 433 passing yards, four touchdowns and one interception while adding 153 rushing yards on 17 carries and five touchdowns. The Chargers (6-2) return to the field at 7 p.m. this Friday their a regular-season finale at Normal (Ill.) West High School.

ZACH HEATH, a sophomore offensive lineman at American River (Calif.) College who committed to Illinois on July 1, and the Beavers won 33-31 at College of the Siskiyous (Calif.) on Saturday afternoon. Heath and the Beavers (6-0) will host Feather River (Calif.) College at 6 p.m. this Saturday.

ZEKE MARTIN, a senior offensive lineman at Medina (Ohio) High School who committed to Illinois on June 18, and the Bees lost 38-18 to Stow (Ohio) Munroe Falls High School at home on Friday night. Martin and the Bees (2-6) play at 6 p.m. this Friday at Mayfield Heights (Ohio) High School.

SAM MAYS, a senior wide receiver at The Kinkaid School in Houston who committed to Illinois on July 6, and the Falcons beat Episcopal School of Dallas 22-21 at home on Friday night. Mays hauled in six receptions for 75 yards in the win. Mays and the Falcons (5-3) resume play at 7:30 p.m. this Friday against Houston St. John's School at Rice Stadium.

GABE MEGGINSON, a senior offensive lineman at Jacksonville (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on April 25, and the Crimsons beat Lincoln (Ill.) High School 63-14 at home on Friday night. Megginson and the Crimsons (4-4) end the regular season at 7 p.m. this Friday at Chatham (Ill.) Glenwood High School.

A.D. MILLER, a senior wide receiver at Dallas Bishop Dunne Catholic School who committed to Illinois on July 5, and the Falcons won 24-21 at Argyle (Texas) Liberty Christian School on Friday night. Miller and the Falcons (7-0) host Dallas Bishop Lynch High School at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

PAT NELSON, a senior defensive back at Chicago Hales Franciscan High School who committed to Illinois on June 25, and the Spartans lost 42-16 at home to Chicago Mt. Carmel High School on Saturday night. Nelson and the Spartans (5-3) are set to end the regular season at 7:30 p.m. this Friday against Westchester (Ill.) St. Joseph's High School at Elmhurst College.

CALEB REAMS, a senior tight end at Gurnee (Ill.) Warren High School who committed to Illinois on Aug. 9, and the Blue Devils beat Lake Zurich (Ill.) High School 21-17 at home on Friday night. Reams and the Blue Devils (6-2) are scheduled to end the regular season at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Zion-Benton (Ill.) High School.

ADAM SOLOMON, a senior offensive lineman at Indianapolis Bishop Chatard High School who committed to Illinois on May 31, and the Trojans finished the regular season with a 46-24 win at Indianapolis Tech High School on Friday night. Solomon and the Trojans (7-2) start the Class 4A postseason with a first-round sectional game at Lebanon (Ind.) High School at 6 p.m. this Friday.

JUSTICE WILLIAMS, a senior linebacker at Frisco (Texas) Wakeland High School who committed to Illinois on Sept. 24, and the Wolverines beat Frisco (Texas) Centennial High School 42-41 in overtime on Friday night at Toyota Stadium in Frisco. Williams caught six passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Williams and the Wolverines (6-1) are back in action at 7 p.m. this Friday against Frisco (Texas) Heritage High School at Toyota Stadium.

Targets to watch

WESLEY ANNAN, a senior defensive tackle at Lake Forest (Ill.) Academy, and the Caxys were off this weekend. Annan, who has offers from Ball State, Boston College, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Duke, Illinois, Maryland, Miami (Ohio), Mississippi State, New Mexico, Rutgers, Syracuse, Toledo, Tulane, Virginia, Western Michigan and Wyoming, and the Caxys (3-4) are slated to end the regular season at 1 p.m. this Saturday at home against New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic High School.

DORANCE ARMSTRONG, a senior defensive end at Galena Park (Texas) North Shore High School, and the Mustangs won 35-20 at Deer Park (Texas) High School on Friday night. Armstrong, who has offers from California, Houston, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Memphis, Michigan State, Northwestern and Oregon State, and the Mustangs (3-5) resume play at 7 p.m. this Friday at Baytown (Texas) Sterling High School.

RASHOD BERRY, a senior defensive end at Lorain (Ohio) High School, and the Titans beat Euclid (Ohio) High School 36-6 at home on Friday night. Berry, who has offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, Syracuse and Toledo, and the Titans (4-4) return to the field at 6 p.m. this Friday at Cleveland Heights (Ohio) High School.

TUF BORLAND, a junior linebacker at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders lost 23-9 at Frankfort (Ill.) Lincoln-Way East High School on Friday night. Borland, who has offers from Illinois, Massachusetts, Northwestern and Wisconsin, and the Raiders (5-3) conclude the regular season at 7 p.m. this Friday at home against Orland Park (Ill.) Carl Sandburg High School.

DESMOND CAIN, a senior cornerback at Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage School, and the Stallions were off this weekend. Cain, who has offers from Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Illinois, Rutgers, South Florida, SMU and Virginia, and the Stallions (5-1) return to the field at 6 p.m. this Friday at home against Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage School.

SHAWN CURTIS, a senior linebacker from Doral (Fla.) Ronald Reagan High School, and the Bison lost 22-9 at North Miami Beach (Fla.) High School on Thursday night. Curtis, who has offers from Army, Bowling Green, Duke, Florida International, Illinois, Marshall, Massachusetts, Mississippi State and Pittsburgh, and the Bison (5-2) resume play at 6:30 p.m. this Friday at home against North Miami (Fla.) High School.

TRENARD DAVIS, a senior athlete at Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage School, and the Stallions were off this weekend. Notre Dame High School.

STEVEN FRANK, a junior quarterback at Oswego (Ill.) High School, and the Panthers beat Plainfield (Ill.) North High School 35-28 at home on Friday night. Frank, who hadn’t played since Sept. 12 because of a foot injury, went 8 of 19 for 220 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Frank, who has offers from Illinois and Miami (Ohio), and the Panthers (7-1) are set to finish the regular season at 7 p.m. this Friday at Plainfield (Ill.) South HIgh School.

DESMOND FITZPATRICK, a junior wide receiver at Farmington (Mich.) High School, and the Falcons won 24-20 at Beverly Hills (Mich.) Birmingham Groves High School on Friday night. Fitzpatrick, who has offers from Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio, Purdue, Toledo and Wake Forest, and the Falcons (7-1) are back in action at 6 p.m. this Friday in their regular-season finale at Walled Lake (Mich.) Central High School.

CHRIS HART, a senior linebacker at Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas High School, and the Raiders beat Weston (Fla.) Cypress Bay High School 34-7 at home on Friday night. Hart, who has offers from Boston College, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Massachusetts, Michigan State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Syracuse, Western Michigan and Wisconsin, and the Raiders (6-1) resume play at 6 p.m. this Friday at Hollywood (Fla.) NAQUAN JONES, a junior defensive tackle at Evanston (Ill.) High School, and the Wildkits lost 46-19 at home to Park Ridge (Ill.) Maine South High School on Friday night. Jones, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin, and the Wildkits (3-5) will end the season at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Winnetka (Ill.) New Trier High School.

JAMAL MILAN, a senior defensive tackle at Chicago Al Raby High School, and the Raiders beat Chicago Julian High School 40-6 on Saturday afternoon at home. Milan, who has offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Maryland, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Syracuse and Western Michigan, and the Raiders are 4-4.

KENTRAIL MORAN, a junior running back at O'Fallon (Ill.) High School, and the Panthers lost 16-13 to Belleville (Ill.) East High School on Saturday afternoon at home. Moran rushed for 25 yards on 11 carries and had three receptions for 8 yards. Moran, who has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Northern Illinois and Syracuse, and the Panthers (3-5) end the season at 7 p.m. this Friday at Granite City (Ill.) High School.

QUENTIN MOON, a senior linebacker at Indianapolis Pike High School, and the Red Devils beat Indianapolis Lawrence North High School 40-14 at home on Friday night. Moon, who has an offer from Illinois, and the Red Devils (4-5) start Class 6A postseason play with a sectional semifinal game at Indianapolis Ben Davis High School at 6 p.m. this Friday.

CHARLIE ROGERS, a Class of 2015 defensive back at Iowa Western Community College, and the Reivers beat College of DuPage (Ill.) 65-27 on Saturday at home. Rogers, who has offers from Georgia State, Idaho, Illinois, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, North Texas, Ohio, Old Dominion, South Alabama and Utah State, and the Reivers (8-0) are set to host Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College at 1 p.m. this Saturday.  

DONTA THOMPSON, a senior wide receiver at Ennis (Texas) High School, and the Lions beat John Tyler (Texas) High School 30-27 on Friday night at home. Thompson recorded two catches for 42 yards in the win. Thompson, who has offers from Arkansas State, Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico, Purdue, Texas State, Texas San Antonio and Texas El Paso, and the Lions (6-2) resume play at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Lufkin (Texas) High School.

BRECK TURNER, a senior running back at Norwalk (Ohio) High School, and the Truckers won 35-7 at Vermilion (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Turner carried the ball 20 times for 232 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Turner, who has offers from Akron, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Kent State, Marshall, Minnesota, Navy, Toledo and Western Michigan, and the Truckers (8-0) are back in action at 6 p.m. this Friday at Shelby (Ohio) High School.
