Weekend Wrap: Mays delivers for Kinkaid

Each week during the football season, Illinois football beat writer Matt Daniels will recap how commits and targets for Tim Beckman's program fared during the previous weekend's worth of games.

The commits

DRE BROWN, a senior running back at DeKalb (Ill.) High School who committed to Illinois on March 7, and the Barbs narrowly beat Aurora (Ill.) Marmion Academy 21-20 at home on Friday night in a Class 6A first-round playoff game. Brown rushed for 132 yards on 26 carries and a 3-yard touchdown in the win. Brown and the Barbs (9-1) play at Darien (Ill.) Hinsdale South High School at 7 p.m. this Friday in a 6A second-round playoff game.

REGGIE CORBIN, a senior running back at Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga College High School who committed to Illinois on May 27, and the Eagles won 49-20 at Forestville (Md.) Bishop McNamara High School on Saturday afternoon. Corbin rushed for two touchdowns in the win. Corbin and the Eagles (7-2) get back in action at 4 p.m. this Saturday against Washington (D.C.) St. John's College High School in Gonzaga's regular-season finale.

ANDREW DAVIS, a sophomore tight end at Iowa Western Community College who committed to Illinois on June 1, and the Reivers won 23-5 at Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College on Saturday afternoon. Davis recorded two catches for 15 yards in the win. Davis and the Reivers (10-0) return to the field at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday at Iowa Central Community College.

HENRY ENYENIHI, a sophomore running back at Sacramento (Calif.) City College who committed to Illinois on July 3, and the Panthers lost 42-13 at Butte (Calif.) College on Saturday afternoon. Enyenihi rushed for 63 yards on 12 carries in the loss. Enyenihi and the Panthers (5-3) resume play at 3 p.m. this Saturday at Feather River (Calif.) College.

JIMMY FITZGERALD, a senior quarterback at Champaign (Ill.) Centennial High School who committed to Illinois on Feb. 1, and the Chargers lost 31-14 to Chatham (Ill.) Glenwood High School on Friday night at home in a Class 6A first-round playoff game. Fitzgerald was lost for the season when he tore the ACL in his right knee during Centennial's 42-13 win at home against Marion (Ill.) High School on Sept. 6. Fitzgerald finished the season 26 of 33 with 433 passing yards, four touchdowns and one interception while adding 153 rushing yards on 17 carries and five touchdowns. The Chargers wrapped up the year with a 6-4 record.

ZACH HEATH, a sophomore offensive lineman at American River (Calif.) College who committed to Illinois on July 1, and the Beavers won 31-22 at Sierra (Calif.) College on Saturday afternoon. Heath and the Beavers (8-0) will look to keep their perfect season intact at 6 p.m. this Saturday at home against Butte (Calif.) College.

ZEKE MARTIN, a senior offensive lineman at Medina (Ohio) High School who committed to Illinois on June 18, and the Bees ended their season with a 50-20 loss at home against Elyria (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Martin and the Bees finished with a 2-8 record this season.

SAM MAYS, a senior wide receiver at The Kinkaid School in Houston who committed to Illinois on July 6, and the Falcons won 41-32 at Fort Worth (Texas) All Saints’ Episcopal School on Saturday in a Southwest Preparatory Conference semifinal game. Mays hauled in 11 receptions for 148 yards and a touchdown in the win. Mays and the Falcons (7-3) are slated to play Bellaire (Texas) Episcopal High School at 7 p.m. this Friday in the SPC championship game.

A.D. MILLER, a senior wide receiver at Dallas Bishop Dunne Catholic School who committed to Illinois on July 5, and the Falcons beat Midland (Texas) Christian 24-14 on Friday night at home. Miller and the Falcons (9-0) are scheduled to end the regular season at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Addison (Texas) Trinity Christian Academy.

PAT NELSON, a senior defensive back at Chicago Hales Franciscan High School who committed to Illinois on June 25, and the Spartans beat Chicago Uplift High School 40-6 during a Class 2A first-round playoff game on Saturday afternoon at Lane Stadium in Chicago. Nelson and the Spartans (7-3) are slated to host Clifton (Ill.) Central High School this weekend in a 2A second-round playoff game.

JUWUANE PARCHMAN, a junior wide receiver at Rockford (Ill.) Auburn High School who committed to Illinois on Oct. 25, and the Knights lost 35-14 at Rockton (Ill.) Hononegah High School on Saturday afternoon in a Class 7A first-round playoff game. Parchman and the Knights ended the season with a 6-4 record.

CALEB REAMS, a senior tight end at Gurnee (Ill.) Warren High School who committed to Illinois on Aug. 9, and the Blue Devils lost 37-20 at Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola Academy on Saturday afternoon in a Class 8A first-round playoff game. Reams had a 69-yard touchdown catch in the loss. Reams helped the Blue Devils finish with a 7-3 record this season.

ADAM SOLOMON, a senior offensive lineman at Indianapolis Bishop Chatard High School who committed to Illinois on May 31, and the Trojans lost 31-6 at Indianapolis Roncali High School on Friday night in a Class 4A sectional semifinal game to end Chatard’s season. Solomon helped the Trojans finish with an 8-3 record this season.

JUSTICE WILLIAMS, a senior linebacker at Frisco (Texas) Wakeland High School who committed to Illinois on Sept. 24, and the Wolverines beat Frisco (Texas) High School 35-21 on Friday night at Toyota Stadium in Frisco. Williams had 45 receiving yards on three catches in the win. Williams and the Wolverines (7-2) are set to end the regular season at 7 p.m. this Friday at Frisco (Texas) Independence High School.

Targets to watch

DORANCE ARMSTRONG, a senior defensive end at Galena Park (Texas) North Shore High School, and the Mustangs won 19-18 at La Porte (Texas) High School on Friday night. Armstrong, who has offers from California, Houston, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Memphis, Michigan State, Northwestern and Oregon State, and the Mustangs (5-5) are scheduled to end the regular season at 7 p.m. this Friday with a home game against Port Arthur (Texas) Memorial High School.

TUF BORLAND, a junior linebacker at Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School, and the Raiders won 35-0 at Chicago Heights (Ill.) Bloom Township High School on Saturday afternoon in a Class 8A first-round playoff game. Borland caught a 9-yard touchdown pass in the win. Borland, who has offers from Illinois, Massachusetts, Northwestern and Wisconsin, and the Raiders (7-3) will host Oswego (Ill.) High School at 6 p.m. this Saturday in an 8A second-round playoff game.

DESMOND CAIN, a senior cornerback at Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage School, and the Stallions won 48-3 at West Palm Beach (Fla.) Cardinal Newman High School on Friday night. Cain produced a 27-yard touchdown run in the win. Cain, who has offers from Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Illinois, Rutgers, South Florida, SMU and Virginia, and the Stallions (7-1) are slated to end the regular season at 6 p.m. this Friday at home against Palm Bay (Fla.) Heritage Beach High School.

SHAWN CURTIS, a senior linebacker from Doral (Fla.) Ronald Reagan High School, and the Bison won 24-0 at Hialeah Gardens (Fla.) High School on Thursday. Curtis contributed a 21-yard touchdown off a fumble return in the win.. Curtis, who has offers from Army, Bowling Green, Duke, Florida International, Illinois, Marshall, Massachusetts, Mississippi State and Pittsburgh, and the Bison (6-3) end the regular season at 6:30 p.m. this Friday at home against Miami Beach (Fla.) High School.

TRENARD DAVIS, a senior athlete at Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage School, and the Stallions won 48-3 at West Palm Beach (Fla.) Cardinal Newman High School on Friday night. Foster, who has offers from Buffalo, California, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Nevada, North Carolina State, Northern Illinois, Purdue, Syracuse and Toledo, and the Corsairs (7-3) are back in action at 4 p.m. this Saturday at home against Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick High School in a 7A second-round playoff game.

STEVEN FRANK, a junior quarterback at Oswego (Ill.) High School, and the Panthers beat Joliet (Ill.) West High School 31-7 at home on Saturday night in a Class 8A first-round playoff game. Frank completed 11 of 19 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Frank, who has offers from Illinois and Miami (Ohio), and the Panthers (9-1) will tangle with Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School at 6 p.m. this Saturday on the road in an 8A second-round playoff game.

CHRIS HART, a senior linebacker at Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas High School, and the Raiders beat Plantation (Fla.) High School 51-0 at home on Friday night. Hart, who has offers from Boston College, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Massachusetts, Michigan State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Syracuse, Western Michigan and Wisconsin, and the Raiders (8-1) are scheduled to host Deerfield Beach (Fla.) High School at 6 p.m. this Friday in their regular-season finale.

JAMAL MILAN, a senior defensive tackle at Chicago Al Raby High School, and the Raiders lost 30-22 at Oregon (Ill.) High School on Friday night in a Class 3A first-round playoff game. Milan, who has offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Maryland, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Syracuse and Western Michigan, and the Raiders finished the season with a 5-5 record.

CHARLIE ROGERS, a Class of 2015 defensive back at Iowa Western Community College, and the Reivers won 23-5 on Saturday afternoon at Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College. Rogers, who has offers from Georgia State, Idaho, Illinois, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, North Texas, Ohio, Old Dominion, South Alabama and Utah State, and the Reivers (10-0) return to the field at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday at Iowa Central Community College.

DONTA THOMPSON, a senior wide receiver at Ennis (Texas) High School, and the Lions won 54-13 at Lindale (Texas) High School on Friday night. Thompson caught five passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Thompson, who has offers from Arkansas State, Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico, Purdue, Texas State, Texas San Antonio and Texas El Paso, and the Lions (7-2) resume play at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at home against Corsicana (Texas) High School in Ennis' regular-season finale.

BRECK TURNER, a senior running back at Norwalk (Ohio) High School, and the Truckers finished the regular season undefeated after a 35-0 win at Willard (Ohio) High School on Friday night. Turner rushed for 166 yards on 27 carries and two touchdowns in the win. Turner, who has offers from Akron, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Kent State, Marshall, Minnesota, Navy, Toledo and Western Michigan, and the Truckers (10-0) will start the Division III playoffs against Sandusky (Ohio) Perkins at 6:30 p.m. this Friday n a Region 8 regional quarterfinal playoff game.

NOAH TURNER, a junior tight end at Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel High School, and the Corsairs won 42-28 at Machesney Park (Ill.) Harlem High School on Saturday afternoon in a Class 7A first-round playoff game. Turner, who has offers from Illinois and Indiana, and the Corsairs (7-3) are back in action at 4 p.m. this Saturday at home against Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick High School in a 7A second-round playoff game.
