Versatile White commits to Illinois

Darren Conklin saw Tyler White arrive at Plainwell (Mich.) High School red in the face one morning last winter.

The Plainwell football head coach wanted to know what his senior tight end and defensive end was up to before taking part in the Trojans' voluntary offseason weight lifting program that started at 6:30 a.m.

I had several questions that went unanswered from my chat last Friday. Here's what we missed while Illinois fans debated whether Tim Beckman was a good hire or not.

Try Ulis on for size

Memo to all those wondering about Tyler Ulis' size.

"He's grown. He's probably pushing 5-9 now," Marian Catholic (Ill.) High School boys basketball head coach Mike Taylor said of his standout junior point guard. "As I tell people, for him, I don't think size really makes that big of a difference. And he's getting better and better every day."

Weekend Wrap — Bailey hurt in Bolingbrook loss

Every week during the prep football season, IlliniHQ will give a wrap-up of how Illini commits and targets fared during the previous weekend's games. Here are a few notes from week 6.

AARON BAILEY and Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School lost its first game of the season, 42-19 on Friday night at undefeated Lincoln-Way East (Ill.) High School.

Jackson's out, so now what?

Demetrius Jackson has committed to Notre Dame.

What's next?

Illinois basketball fans are probably asking that question this morning after the Mishawaka (Ind.) native and Marian Catholic High School point guard gave a verbal commitment to Notre Dame on Thursday afternoon.

Austin representing USA in Spain this weekend

With the way technology is today, Larry Austin Jr. probably has heard Demetrius Jackson gave a verbal commitment to Notre Dame on Thursday afternoon.

Even if Austin Jr, a 6-foot-1-inch, 160-pound combo guard from Springfield Lanphier (Ill.) High School who is one of the more sought-after Class of 2014 players in the state of Illinois, is out of the country.

Illinois not among 10 offers Austin has

Larry Austin Sr. paused.

Rattling off the list of scholarship offers his son, Larry Austin Jr., had at the moment, he didn't want to forget a school.

"I'm trying to remember all these guys," the elder Austin said with a laugh, "but I'm probably missing somebody."

Time to answer some mail

I didn't get the chance to get to all the questions that were in my chat last Friday. We'll get to the leftovers in today's blog entry while the countdown for Demetrius Jackson's annoucement on Notre Dame or Illinois (T-minus 36 hours and counting) continues.
