Yesterday we were given an excellent tour of a giant Buddhist temple by a Buddhist monk. She was so smart and funny and interesting and answered all of our questions with thoughtful answers. Her presence, and the beauty of the surroundings -- including a 125-foot buddha! -- made this one of the very best activities on the trip thus far.

And we meditated! I'm not much of a sit-and-be-quiet person, but for two minutes we practiced being still and regulating our breathing. I felt calmer, but I also felt that two minutes was probably a good start to meditation for me.
We're heading off in 20 minutes to Pingtung, which is the southernmost area of Taiwan. We'll be there are few days, visiting a water resources office, a university, a kindergarten and an aboriginal tribe. I think we'll learn a lot.
I've heard the beach in the area is beautiful, but I don't see much time, if any, for checking it out.
I'm not sure about an Internet connection for the next couple of days, so this blog may nap until the weekend is over.
Then I'll post some photos, I promise!
