Cool news for a Champaign Central student:
Carolyn Muller, a senior from Champaign Central High School, is the 2012 Poetry Out Loud Illinois State Champion after winning a statewide competition hosted by the Springfield Area Arts Council in Springfield.
The contest was March 29, and Muller beat out a competitive field of nearly 6,000 students from across the state.
She recited “Infelix,” by Adah Isaacs Menken, “Dirge Without Music,” by Edna St. Vincent Millay and “Ovation” by Carol Muske-Dukes. She will advance to the national competition to be held in Washington, D.C., in mid-May.
As the winner, her expenses for the trip will be paid and she recieved a $200 award. Central will receive $500 to buy poetry books.
David Kessler from Centennial High School also participated in the state contest.
