Matt Herges, like Roger Clemens, talked about steroids on Wednesday. Here's text of the statement released Wednesday by the Champaign product, who was implicated in the Mitchell Report in December:"Several years ago I made a poor decision rather than trusting in the abilities the Lord has blessed me with. With great insecurity I chose to cross the line and briefly use performance enhancing substances. I have no excuse for my actions.
"Words cannot describe how remorseful I am. Beginning with my wife, Jane, my children, family and friends, I would like to apologize to all those I have hurt including the fans of Major League Baseball. I have never used performance enhancing substances while wearing the Rockies uniform, but I want to apologize to the Rockies organization and their fans as well.
"I cannot adequately express the grace and forgiveness that I have received. My hope is that young athletes will not repeat my mistake, but will be secure enough to pursue their dreams without the use of drugs of any kind."

Matt is a distant cousin of mine. His parents and Matt himself are such kind people. They gave my boys memorabilia and advice about their dreams of being in MLB. Practice hard and follow your dreams. Everyone makes mistakes and Matt has admitted to his. This makes us respect him more that he admitted to what he did and that it was in fact the wrong thing to do. Matt, stay strong and God Bless!
