Champaign Central held off a late Washington charge to win 70-65 in today's third-place game at Carver Arena in Peoria.
The Maroons planned a celebration at Combes Gym in Champaign around 4:30 p.m. today. The team bus was to receive a police escort into town.

The Maroons, who lost a late lead in Friday's loss to Chicago Simeon, took charge early in the fourth quarter. But Washington rallied and had a chance to tie in the closing seconds.
Verdell Jones' free throws with 5.1 seconds sealed the win. Jones led the Maroons in scoring.
The team planned to return to Champaign today, toting the third-place trophy the Maroons won in their last trip to the state tournament (1969).
