— IlliniHQ.com is two days old, and the amount of feedback I’ve already received has been wonderful. I spent the first 90 minutes at work Saturday simply replying to readers who had something to say about our all-Illini Web site.
We want your opinion — and ideas on how to make HQ even better. Click on “Contact” on the upper right of the home page to find “Mailbag.” Your e-mails come directly to me, and I promise to respond.
— Sharing headlines with IlliniHQ is Loren Tate, our legendary columnist whose new book is available at The News-Gazette. “Tatelines” is a collection of more than 100 of Loren’s best columns since he joined the N-G in 1966. Included with each column is a postscript, Loren telling us what he was really thinking when he wrote each one of them. The pictures are pretty cool, too.
“Tatelines” ($19.95 plus tax) will be in bookstores later this month. It’s available now at our downtown office and online at www.news-gazette.com.
— Gene Budig, former AL president and current president of the N-G board of directors, also has a book out: “Grasping The Ring.” It offers personal takes on nine “unique winners in life and sports,” including Gale Sayers, George Steinbrenner and Jerry Reinsdorf. It’s also available at www.news-gazette.com.
— Former Illini Justin Spring is writing an Olympic diary for us. If the experts at The Associated Press are right, Spring will come home with a bronze. The AP’s medal projections have Spring finishing third in high bar. For more on Spring, read here .
