Looking for a way to get in some exercise before your Memorial Day barbecue or graduation picnic?

Head to Danville for the Memorial Day 5K on the grounds of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The race starts at 9 a.m. and is held on the grounds of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 1900 E. Main St. The race benefits programs for veterans.

— Bike the Drive

Bicyclists get Lake Shore Drive in Chicago all to themselves from 5:30 a.m. to about 9:45 a.m. Sunday.

The ride will cost you $55 on the day of the event, and it benefits the Active Transportation Alliance, which encourages biking, walking and use of public transit.

Looking ahead:
— Douglas-Hart Nature Center Prairie Loop Run

This is the first year for the 3-mile run and 1-mile fun run on a chipped limestone trail in the Douglas-Hart Nature Center in Mattoon on June 5. Register by June 1 and get a cheaper entry fee.

— Art Gallery Bicycle Tour

Tour local art galleries, get discounts on food at various restaurants, and be eligible for a raffle of prizes donated by the participating galleries.

The fee is $10 if you register by May 30, $15 after that. For more information or to get a registration form, go to http://champaigncycle.com and click on the logo for the ride. The entry fees will be donated to the 40 North/88 West arts organization.

— Crossroads Dash 15K and 5K run/walk

Effingham will host a 15K run, a 5K run and a 5K walk. The Crossroads Dash is at 8 a.m. June 5. Get a registration form here, or call 217/342-4147 for details. You can register the day of the race beginning at 6:30 a.m.

— Lake Mingo Trail Run

Hit the trail for this 7.1-mile run in Kennekuk Cover County Park at 9 a.m. June 12. Enter by June 4 for a cheaper entry fee.
