Let the Fourth of July races begin.

This evening run and walk on Friday, July 2, is part of Rantoul’s Rocking the Runway Firecracker Bash. The walk starts at 7:15 p.m. and the run starts at 7:30 p.m.
Runners and walkers will have access to showers at Rantoul’s pool after the race, and they’ll get free admission to the celebration, which includes food booths, inflatables, music and fireworks. For more information, see the chamber’s website at www.rantoulchamber.com.
— Freedom 5K
Champaign’s annual 5K run and walk starts and finishes at Assembly Hall on July 4 and covers part of the Fourth of July parade route. The race starts at 11:05 a.m., with the parade following two hours later.
Get your registration post-marked by Saturday and save $5. Race day registration begins at 9:30 a.m. There’s also a free youth run around Assembly Hall, starting at 10:30 a.m.

— Knights of Columbus 5K
This run and walk in Paxton starts at 8 a.m. on the Fourth at Pells Park. Instead of a t-shirt, participants get a drawstring bag. There’s also a 1-mile run and walk.

— Park to Park 5 Miler
This race starts at Miller Park in Bloomington and finishes at Fairview Park in Normal. It’s at 7:30 a.m. July 4, and it attracts about 500 runners, according to the Lake Run Club’s website. Sounds pretty cool.
And you won’t have to walk back to your car. There will be bus transportation between the two parks.
Here’s the info.
I mentioned in last week’s Fit List that one of the upcoming Fourth of July races is the Lovington is on the Move 5K run and walk. One of the folks associated with that race told me it was cancelled this year due to lack of volunteers.
