I wrote last week, in this story, about the ways in which running shoes, t-shirts and medals are recycled or reused.
One of the organizations I mentioned that collects new and used shoes for people in need around the world is Soles4Souls.
Finish Line stores are now collecting shoes for Soles4Souls, including the store at Market Place Mall.
The collection began June 1 and goes through July 17.
Soles4Souls is trying to provide 1 million pairs of shoes to victims of the Haitian earthquake.
Finish Line stores are also accepting monetary donations for the charity.
The athletic footwear and clothing company has collected shoes for Soles4Souls during the past three years.
Other local stores collecting shoes for Soles4Souls are the Heel to Toe, New Balance and Birkenstock Concepts stores in downtown Urbana.
For more information about Soles4Souls, see their website at www.soles4souls.org.
