The Fit List

Run off some of those calories you ate on Thanksgiving. Here’s the list of upcoming races. They race calendar is getting shorter, so pick a race and enter while you can.

This weekend:
— FOLEPI River Trail Classic
This is a 4-mile run and a 2-mile (non-competitive) walk in East Peoria on Saturday. The run starts at 9 a.m. and the walk at 8:30 a.m. The course is the River Trail, a paved and downhill course, according to the website.
Here’s a link for more information, or to register.

— Stuff ‘N Puff 5K
This is a 5K run and walk in Sullivan at 9 a.m. Saturday. Here’s a link for the entry form.

Weekend of Dec. 4-5:
— Jingle Bell Run Champaign
This is one in the series of annual Run/Walk events put on by the Arthritis Foundation. This one’s at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at Centennial Park.
Here’s a link to the website.

— Tuscola 5K Santa Chase Run & Walk
This race is at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4. You can save $5 by registering before Dec. 3. You can also register race day from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m., across the street from the Tuscola Community Building.
There’s a copy of the entry form on the city of Tuscola’s Facebook page. Here’s the link. You can also send an e-mail to carly.mccrory@tuscola.org to get an entry form.

— Hindsboro 5K
This is a no-frills race. There’s no race clock or trophies, just timing by stopwatch and bragging rights if you win. But your run will help some needy local families.
This race on Saturday, Dec. 4, benefits the Oakland Food Pantry, and to enter it will cost you one nonperishable food item suitable for a Christmas dinner, and $5 if you are over 16. (If you’re younger than 16, you can enter with just the food item.)
Registration is at 8 a.m. at the Hindsboro Five N’s store, and the race starts at 8:30 a.m. Hindsboro is in southern Douglas County, straight east of Arcola and northwest of Oakland.
For more information, contact Vivian Hudson at 346-2309 or Belinda Clifton at 276-3570.

Weekend of Dec. 11-12:
— Da Deer Run Run
This is a Euro-style 8K cross-country run through Comlara Park in Hudson in McLean County. The race is at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11. Part of the run is on trails, there’s a stream crossing, and there are steeple chase barriers you must go over or under.
The registration fee goes up after Dec. 1.
Here’s the link for information and to register. There’s no mention of costumes, but I’m thinking a lot of runners wear them at this race.
