— Hindsboro 5K
This is a no-frills race. There’s no race clock or trophies, just timing by stopwatch and bragging rights if you win. But your run will help some needy local families.
This race on Saturday, Dec. 4, benefits the Oakland Food Pantry, and to enter it will cost you one nonperishable food item suitable for a Christmas dinner, and $5 if you are over 16. (If you’re younger than 16, you can enter with just the food item.)
Registration is at 8 a.m. at the Hindsboro Five N’s store, and the race starts at 8:30 a.m. Hindsboro is in southern Douglas County, straight east of Arcola and northwest of Oakland.

This is a Euro-style 8K cross-country run through Comlara Park in Hudson in McLean County. The race is at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11. Part of the run is on trails, there’s a stream crossing, and there are steeple chase barriers you must go over or under.
The registration fee goes up after Dec. 1.
