The Fit List

The Fit List

Happy New Year!
The Fit List brings you some races for the the last day of this year and the first month of the new year —  so you can end 2010 and start 2011 off right.
I’ll be at Body n’ Sole’s New Year’s Eve run this afternoon at 4. You need to be pre-registered to be eligible for the door prizes afterward, but anyone can join the run from the store.
Here’s a couple more New Year’s Eve runs, and what I’ve got for January.

— Neoga Frozen 5K
This is a 5K run and walk and 1-mile fun run this afternoon at Neoga Elementary School. The proceeds from the race go to help pay for an all-purpose track for the Neoga schools.
The fun run starts at 1:40 p.m. and the 5K at 2 p.m. You can register race day beginning at noon.
Here’s a link for race information and to enter.

— Get Lit New Year’s Eve Run
If you’re in the Peoria area, you can run in the New Year with this race in East Peoria. It’s a 2-mile non-competitive run/walk that starts shortly before midnight. The course goes through a Winter Wonderland display, and there’s a post-race pizza party at Avanti’s Ristorante.
Here’s the link for information and to register.

Weekend of Jan. 7-8:
— Siberian Express
This 7.45-mile trail run is held no matter what — rain, snow, blizzard, mud, or balmy springlike weather. The race is at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8 at Kickapoo State Park near Oakwood.
Race day registration begins at 9:30 a.m. And following the race, there’s a party at Sarge’s Tap in Danville.
For more information or to register, go to www.kennekuk.com and click on “Events/Results” at the top of the page to get a list of upcoming races. You’ll find information about the Siberian there.

Weekend of Jan. 15-16:
— Carle Resolution Run
Carle Foundation Hospital and Physician Group is sponsoring this 5K run/walk on Saturday, Jan. 15. The race starts at 9 a.m. at The Forum at Carle, 611 W. Park, U., and goes through Crystal Lake Park. Race day registration starts at 8 a.m., or you can pre-register online here, or at Carle Sports Medicine, 810 W. Anthony Dr., U., or Body n’ Sole Sports, 1317 N. Dunlap Ave., Savoy.
For more information, call 217/383-3300.

Weekend of Jan. 22-23:
— Chilly Chili
This is one of the Lake Run Club’s races in Bloomington. The club hasn’t updated its race calendar for 2011 yet, so it’s not listed on the website. But I found the 2011 date on The US Race Calendar. That website says the race is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22.
It’s a 4.37-mile run at Lake Bloomington, followed by a post-race party that includes homemade chili. It’s not so much a competitive race as a fun one. The awards usually include ones for the best-dressed and the least-dressed man and woman.
I’ll keep looking for an entry form and post it when I find it.
