The Fit List

Pick a triathlon, 5K or bike ride this weekend. Got a list for the next two weekends for you here. Have fun!

Weekend of July 9-10:
— Lakeside Triathlon
This triathlon at Nelson Park in Decatur is on Sunday, and it includes several new races this year. There’s the long course triathlon that’s been run for several years, which is a .75-mile swim, a 19-mile bike ride, and a 4.5-mile run. New this year is a super sprint triathlon, which is a 400-yard swim, a 19-mile bike ride, and a 3.1-mile run.
There are also kids’ races, which are new this year as well. The kids’ triathlon, for children ages 10 to 14, is a 100-yard swim, a 4-mile bike ride, and a 1-mile run. There are also two kids’ duathlons for different age levels. Children ages 5 to 8 will do a quarter-mile run, a 1.5-mile bike ride, and another quarter-mile run. Children ages 9 to 14 will do a 1-mile run, a 4-mile bike ride, and another 1-mile run.
The races are in memory of the late Rodney T. Miller of Decatur, who had been a collegiate swimmer and was an Illinois State Trooper. The race benefits the Rodney T. Miller Memorial Fund, which provides money for sports-related programs or activities for children.
You can still register on Saturday, but there’s no race day registration. For more information or to register, go to www.decaturtriathlon.com.
