Congratulations to all the runners who completed one of the Illinois Marathon races last weekend. I hope you’ve recovered, because there are lots more races to run in the next few weekends.

Weekend of May 5-6:
— Lake Run
This is a 12K run, a 4.37-mile run and a 3-mile non-competitive walk at Lake Bloomington on Saturday. I’ve heard good things about this run ... and about the post-race party with free beer!

— Try the Tri
This is a superprint triathlon on Sunday in Springfield. It’s geared toward novices, with a 150-yard pool swim, a 5-mile bike ride and a 1.2-mile run. It’s open to anyone age 9 and above.

— Tour de C-U
The bike racers will be hitting the streets of the University of Illinois Research Park on Saturday and downtown Urbana on Sunday.
The races are sponsored by Scarlet Fire Racing and Wild Card Cycling. Click here for more information. Online registration is closed, but you can register on race day.
There is also a Tour of Champaign County Bike Ride in conjunction with the criterion bike races, put on by Prairie Cycle Club. It leaves at 8 a.m. Saturday from the corner of First Street and St. Mary’s Road in Champaign. There will be two 32-mile routes (do both for a metric century) and a 10-mile in-town ride.

Weekend of May 12-13:
— Morgan Buerkett Memorial 5K
This 5K run and 1-mile walk is scheduled for Saturday, May 12, at The High School of St. Thomas More in Champaign. The race starts at 9 a.m., and there is onsite registration only, from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m.
Morgan Buerkett was a 2010 graduate of St. Thomas More, and a volleyball player and member of the track team there. She was killed in a plane crash in July 2011, along with her parents, Dana and Jon Buerkett. St. Thomas More has established a volleyball scholarship in her memory.
The race is being sponsored by the National Honor Society at St. Thomas More. The registration fee is $25 and all the proceeds go to the Morgan Lee Buerkett Scholarship.

— Kirby Derby
This race on Saturday, May 12, includes 5K and 10K runs, a 5K recreational walk and a free kids run for kids 10 and under. The races start and end in Forest Preserve Park in Monticello.
The runs and walk start at 8 a.m. and the kids race is at 10 a.m. Race day registration is from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m.
I did this race last year for the first time. Nice shirts and finisher medals, but no age group awards. This year, the age group awards are back (yah!).

— Twin Cities Twosome
This race on Saturday, May 12, is at Crystal Lake Park in Urbana. It’s the 21st eyar of the race, sponsored by Human Kinetics, and the proceeds go to the T.I.M.E.S. Center, the Center for Women in Transition and the Crisis Nursery.
You can run or walk this race, and do it solo or as a twosome. Teams doing the twosome run (each person runs a 5K) or the twosome walk (each person walks a 2.5K) can choose categories such as combined ages, youth, parent-child, husband-wife and corporate.

— 5K Grow and Go
This race on Saturday, May 12, in Bloomington includes a 5K run, a 1-mile walk and a 1/4-mile Cock a Doodle Dash for kids 10 and under. The race is a fundraiser for the Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom program. There are kids’ activities and breakfast after the race.
The 5K and walk start at 9 a.m., kids’ race at 8:45 a.m. Race day registration is from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Here’s a link for more information and to register online.
— Race for the Warriors 5K
This is a 5K run and walk on Saturday, May 12, at Winter Park in Danville. The race is on a cross-country course.
The race is a fundraiser sponsored by Danville’s PB & PA Unit 11 (police) and Firefighters Local 429 to bring a Wounded Warriors group to Danville for a charity softball game in August, to benefit the local AMBUCS chapter.

— Whitmore Park Spring Classic
This is a half marathon and 5-mile run at Whitmore Park in Decatur on Saturday, May 12. The races are followed by a pancake and sausage breakfast.

— Fat Ass 5K
This is a 5K race and street party in Springfield on Saturday, May 12. You can chow down along the race route on beer, ice cream, donuts and corn dogs (ugh!). The street party includes a pig roast and live music.
The 5K starts at 10 a.m. and the street party is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
