It looks like we’ll have some awesome running weather this weekend. Lots of races to choose from, starting with a 5K this evening in Effingham.
Here’s the list:
Friday, June 1:
— CASA’s 5K Night Run/Walk
This race begins this evening at sunset, approximately 8:15 p.m. It starts and ends at the Effingham Elks Lodge and is followed by an after party with live music. The race benefits the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) organization in Effingham County.
For more information, go to www.casaofeffinghamcounty.com and click on the registration link.
Weekend of June 2-3:
— Countryside 10K
Get your cowbell! This is the second year for this 10K run and 2-mile walk. It’s on Saturday in Sidney. It’s sponsored by the Champaign County Farm Bureau Foundation, and the proceeds go to scholarships for students studying agriculture.
The age group awards are cowbells, and the Sidney Dairy Barn will be there with ice cream after the race. I’m looking forward to this one. I didn’t end up running it last year, when it was beastly hot, but it looks like we’ll have a great day for it this weekend.

yeah, I had to get home to shower and get to work, i'll take the day off next year. :) my next race is next Saturday in Terre Haute, a 12 hr ultra. It is like the Howl, do as many 5k loops as you want. Time to test the waters, looking forward to it. I intended to do the Howl as my first but it falls on a weekend I work, and is a week before the Madison Mini so that is out for this year. Happy running.
