The Fit List

Have fun if you are running Steamboat in Peoria this weekend. There are lots of 5Ks coming up in the next couple of weekends to choose from. Here’s the list:

Weekend of June 16-17:
Steamboat Classic
These races are on Saturday in Peoria. There is a tough, hilly 15K; a four-mile race advertised as the world’s fastest; and a non-competitive 4K fun run and walk for runners who have not yet entered high school and for those with disabilities.
There is no race day registration, but you can still register at packet pickup until 8 p.m. this evening in Peoria. For more information, go to www.steamboatclassic.org.

SPIFF 5K
This 5K run and walk in Casey (southeast of Mattoon) on Saturday benefits Scott’s Pay It Forward Fund. The fund was established in memory of Scott Ellis, who died at age 27 after battling cancer as a child and an adult. The money from the fund goes to local treatment facilities and programs that help families dealing with cancer.

Forsyth Family Fest 5K
This is a 5K run/walk and a 1-mile fun run on Saturday in Forsyth, near Decatur. Here’s a link to the race brochure.

Newman Freedom Race
This is a 5K run/walk and a biathlon on Saturday in Newman. You can do the biathlon as an individual or part of a team. It consists of a 5K run and a 15-mile bike ride.
The race proceeds to go help with medical expenses for a local child who underwent bone surgery to correct a condition caused by dwarfism.

Weekend of June 23-24:
Walldog Jog
This a 5K run and walk in Arcola on Saturday, June 23. It coincides with the Arcola Walldogs Project, where artists are creating 14 outdoor murals.
The run is at 8 a.m. and race day registration is from 7 to 7:30 a.m. at Kelley Moore Park. For more information, go to www.arcolawalldogsproject.com/5k-run.

Gifford Community Celebration 5K
This 5K run and walk on Saturday, June 23, is the first of four races that are part of the All Area 5K Championship Circuit.
This race is at 7 a.m., and race day registration begins at 6:30 a.m. Here’s a link to the race form.

Lexington Country Run
This is a 5K race on Saturday, June 23, in Lexington. It’s part of the Lake Run Club circuit. There’s also a 1-mile walk and a kids’ run.

Marfan Mad Dash 5K
This race on Saturday, June 23, in Bloomington is a 5K run/walk to raise awareness of Marfan syndrome. The race benefits the National Marfan Foundation.

U Otter Run 5K
This is a 5K trail race on Saturday, June 23, sponsored by the McLean County Parks and Recreation Department. It is at Comlara County Park.

Memorial Regional Burn Center 5K Run/Walk
This race is Saturday, June 23, at Washington Park in Springfield. Proceeds from the race benefit the Memorial Medical Center Regional Burn Center.

This race is Saturday, June 23, at Stuart Park in Springfield. It benefits the Relevant Practical Ministry for Men.
