The Fit List

Check out the Fisher Fair 5K on Saturday if you’re looking for a fun race to run. It always gets a good crowd. I’m waiting to race again until the following weekend and the Bagelfest in Mattoon.
Here’s the list of races for the next couple of weekends:

Weekend of July 14-15:
Fisher Fair 5K
This 5K race is Saturday. It is the last of four races that are part of the All Area 5K Championship Circuit. There is also a 5K Fun Walk.
Participants get free admission with their bib number to Saturday night’s Demolition Derby at the Fisher Fair.

The Phoenix Run
This is a 5K race and 1-mile fun run/walk in Mt. Zion on Saturday. All proceeds to go the Mt. Zion Fire Department.

Dog Days 5K
This is an evening race on Saturday at Lake Bloomington. Click here for the race flier.

Evergreen Lake Triathlon
These races at Comlara County Park, near Hudson, are on Saturday. There is an international distance triathlon, with a 1.5K swim, a 40K bike and a 10K run; and a sprint distance triathlon, with a 500-meter swim, a 40K bike and a 5K run.

Women’s Distance Festival
This is a 2-mile race through Washington Park in Springfield on Saturday. There is also a children’s fun run and a health fair. Race proceeds benefit the American Heart Association.

Weekend of July 21-22:
Run for the Bagel
This is the 25th year for the race on Saturday, July 21, in Mattoon. There’s a 10K, a 5K and a 1-mile fun run.
I’ve talked about doing this one for several years and never managed to get there, so this year is my year. It’s an early start — 7 a.m. There is race day registration from 6 to 6:30 a.m.

Signs of Sunshine 5K
This is a 5K run and walk and kids’ fun run at Maxwell Park in Normal on Saturday, July 21. The race course is grass.
Signs of Sunshine is a non-profit organization that provides support to people suffering from a serious illness or injury.

Run United
This is a 5K run and walk and kids’ fun run at Washington Park in Springfield on Saturday, July 21. There will be kids’ activities following the fun run. The race benefits the United Way of Central Illinois.

Fisherman’s Trail 7.5K Trail Race
This trail race is Saturday, July 21, at Evergreen Lake at Comlara County Park, near Hudson. The race is run on technical single track and hiking trails, with a wave start.
The race benefits the El Paso and Bloomington-Normal St. Jude runners (who will be doing the relay to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital this same weekend).

Kankakee Area YMCA 5K
This race is a 5K run, fun walk and children’s run on Saturday, July 21, in Kankakee. Here’s a link to the race form.
