The triathlon I was going to do this weekend has already been canceled. I’d suggest checking a race website or making a call before heading out to a race this weekend, just in case it’s rained out.
Hopefully the weather will hold out so some of these races can go off.
Weekend of Sept. 1-3:
— Arthur Cheese Festival Rat Race
Some good bike rides coming up, including the C-U Across the Prairie ride on Saturday morning. Lots of running too. Here’s the list:
Weekend of Aug. 25-26:
— C-U Across the Prairie
The Prairie Cycle Club’s annual ride is Saturday and it leaves from Urbana this year, to coincide with the Sweet Corn Festival.
I’ve mentioned before that I’m not much of a cyclist.
I like it, but in the past, I haven’t bicycled enough for it to feel anywhere near as comfortable as running or swimming.
It looks like another great weekend for running. Good luck if you are doing the Mahomet half marathon or 5K on Saturday. And if you’re in Champaign Saturday evening, keep an eye out for a critical mass of runners in red dresses.
Here’s the list:
Weekend of Aug. 18-19:
— Mahomet Half Marathon and 5K
This run/walk didn’t make it into The Fit List last Friday, but it’s coming up this weekend. If you’d like to honor military men and women from Illinois who died in Afghanistan and Iraq, head to Charleston on Saturday.
— Run/Walk for the Fallen
Good luck to everyone running Howl at the Moon this weekend! Looks like you’ll have some nice cool weather.
Here’s what else is going on:
Weekend of Aug. 11-12:
This is a 5K run and walk and a kids 1K fun run in St. Joseph on Saturday. The race is a fundraiser for the St. Joseph middle school and high school cross country programs.
This Sunday, up to several dozen Bloomington-Normal runners will get together for a run and breakfast.
It’s a chance for them to run together and socialize. It’s also a way to raise money for a good cause.
I wrote recently about open water swimming and some local women who are swimming races in lakes and rivers.
Good luck to everyone doing the Champaign Park District Mini-tri on Saturday. I’ll be swimming this weekend at Evergreen Lake. The Fit List has runs, rides and tris coming up. Here’s the list:
Weekend of Aug. 4-5:
— Two Rivers Century
This Kankakee County bicycle ride on Sunday offers six distances — 22, 47, 62, 80, 100 or 124 miles.
