The Fit List -- Isaac edition
The triathlon I was going to do this weekend has already been canceled. I’d suggest checking a race website or making a call before heading out to a race this weekend, just in case it’s rained out.
Hopefully the weather will hold out so some of these races can go off.
Weekend of Sept. 1-3:
— Arthur Cheese Festival Rat Race
I never miss my hometown race. I’m hoping it won’t be too soggy this year. The races are on Labor Day/ Monday. There’s a 10K race, a 5K race, a 5K recreational walk, a 1-mile fun run and a kiddie fun run. Come run, then score some free cheese.

— Imagine No Malaria 5K
This race is Saturday at Crystal Lake Park in Urbana. There’s a 5K run, a 5K walk and a kids fun run. The race is sponsored by the Quest and Savoy United Methodist churches and it raises money to fight malaria.

— Sweetcorn 5K Classic
This is a 5K race, a 1-mile fun run/walk and the Little Corn Eaters Run on Saturday in Hoopeston. It’s part of the National Sweetcorn Festival celebration.

— Viking 5K Classic
This race in Monday at the Danville High School Athletic Complex. The race benefits Danville High School athletics.

— Tour de Delavan Bike Race
This is a 23-mile bike race in Delavan, on Saturday. It’s part of the Delavan Fall Festival, and at $8 for pre-registered riders and $10 for those entering on the day of the event, it might be the least expensive bike race you can enter. There are categories for beginner/intermediate riders and advanced riders.

— Delavan Fall Festival 10K
Delavan is apparently the place to be this Labor Day weekend, because they also have a 10K associated with their fall festival. The 10K race is Monday.

Weekend of Sept. 8-9:
— Car-X Crazy K
More obstacles and more mud. That’s the word about the second year of this obstacle race.
The race is Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Champaign County Fairgrounds. It’s a 5K with 19 obstacles to negotiate, many involving water and/or mud. Most participants are part of a team. There’s also a kids’ fun run.
The event also includes food and drink vendors and live music. It is a fundraiser for a number of charities and non-profit organizations.

— Arcola Broom Corn Festival
The 35th Broom Corn Festival race is Saturday, Sept. 8, in Arcola. There’s 5K and 10K runs and a recreational 5K walk. Here’s a link for the festival website. Go to the bottom for information about the race and a link for online registration and the race brochure.
— Allerton 5K
This isn’t the Allerton trail run. It’s the OTHER Allerton — the village east of Broadlands on the Champaign/Vermilion county lines. The event on Saturday, Sept. 8, is a one-time race to celebrate the village’s 125th anniversary. The proceeds will support activities at Heritage High School. There’s a 5K run/walk and a 1-mile kids’ fun run.

— Heartland Half Marathon and 5K
These races are Sunday, Sept. 9, in Effingham. The proceeds benefit a mentoring program in the Unit 40 schools and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization.

— Bloomington/Normal Race for the Cure
This is the second year for Bloomington-Normal’s Race for the Cure. The event is Saturday, Sept. 8, and it includes a 5K race, a non-competitive 5K family run/walk and a non-competitive 1-mile family walk.

— Capital City Century
This ride in Springfield is on Sunday, Sept. 9, and it includes routes of 25, 40, 62 and 100 miles. The rides all start at the Lake Springfield Beach House.

— Fido Scurry
This event on Saturday, Sept. 8, includes a 5K race, a 1-mile run/walk, a pet parade and costume contest, a blessing of the animals and other doggie events. It’s at Fairview Park in Decatur and it benefits the Decatur and Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation. You don’t need a pet to participate.

— Patriot Cyclocross
This is a series of races sponsored by Wild Card Cycling on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Heritage Park in Rantoul. Here’s a link for more information. And here’s a link for registration. You can register online through Wednesday.
— Memorial Medical Center Kidney/Pancreas Transplant 5K Run/Walk
This race is Saturday, Sept. 8, at Washington Park in Springfield. The race raises money for patient needs, education and program development at the Center for Transplant Services at Memorial Medical Center.
