Good luck to everyone running Howl at the Moon this weekend! Looks like you’ll have some nice cool weather.
Here’s what else is going on:

Weekend of Aug. 11-12:
This is a 5K run and walk and a kids 1K fun run in St. Joseph on Saturday. The race is a fundraiser for the St. Joseph middle school and high school cross country programs.

Evergreen Lake 5K
This is a 5K run/walk and a kids 1/4-mile fun run on Saturday at Evergreen Lake at Comlara County Park, near Hudson. This is a Lake Run Club event. Proceeds benefit the McLean County Parks & Recreation Department and the Miracle League of Central Illinois.

Cruisin’ the Cornfields
This is the Sullivan Area Arts Bicycle Tour, on Saturday. It benefits Sullivan Area Arts.
There are two routes: 16 miles and 41 miles. The rides start and end at Wyman Park in Sullivan.

Power Up 5K Run
This 5K run and 2-mile walk is in Gibson City on Saturday. You can register on race day from 6 to 7 a.m. Here’s a link to the race flier.

Abe’s Tri Series
This series includes the Stovepipe Sprint Triathlon and Railsplitter Triathlon on Saturday in Petersburg. The Stovepipe Sprint includes a 500-yard swim, a 13-mile bike ride and a 5K run. The Railsplitter is a .9-mile swim, a 24.8-mile bike and a 10K run. The run for both events goes through the New Salem State Historic Site. The Railsplitter bike ride goes through the Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Park.

Mid August Meltdown
This is an Olympic distance triathlon on Sunday at Lake Sara Beach in Effingham. Distances are: .9-mile swim, 26-mile bike ride and 10K run.

Wildlife Wild MTB Race
If you want to do some mountain bike racing, this event is at Wildlife Prairie State Park, northwest of Peoria, on Sunday. It’s part of the Illinois Homegrown Race Series, and this race is sponsored by the Peoria Area Mountain Bike Association.

Weekend of Aug. 18-19:
Mahomet Half Marathon and 5K
This half marathon and 5K are on Saturday, Aug. 18, at Mahomet. The start area is near the high school and both races finish on the high school track. The race benefits the Mahomet Area Youth Club.
You can register online through Aug. 15. You can also register on race day.

Tour de Paws
This is a bike ride on Saturday, Aug. 18, at Nelson Park in Decatur. It benefits the Macon County Animal Shelter. You can choose from a 3-mile family route, or 25, 43 or 61-mile routes. There’s a post-ride party with lunch, raffle drawings and family activities.

Atwood Apple Dumpling 5K
This race is on Saturday, Aug. 18, in Atwood. It benefits the Atwood-Hammond junior high track program. There is race day registration.

Pony Express Days 5K
This 5K is Saturday, Aug. 18, at Mt. Zion Foundation Park. Click here for more information and here for the race entry form.

Abe’s Amble 10K
This race is Sunday, Aug. 19, at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. Registration is only online this year, and there is no race day registration. You can register online through Aug. 16.

Edwardsville Rotary Criterium Twilight Ride
The bike races in this criterium run from 3 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, in Edwardsville. The event also includes free kids races, live music and a pub crawl to benefit the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Junior Service Club’s Boundless Playground and the Edwardsville Rotary.

NOTE: Don’t forget about the C-U Across the Prairie ride, which is Aug. 26. More on that next week, but if you are planning on riding, enter by Aug. 15. The price goes up after that. Here’s a link with information and online registration.
