The Fit List

Have fun, all you Crazy K runners. Should be a great event.
Here’s the list of other runs and rides this weekend and next:

Weekend of Sept. 8-9:
Car-X Crazy K
More obstacles and more mud. That’s the word about the second year of this obstacle race.
The race is Saturday at the Champaign County Fairgrounds. It’s a 5K with 19 obstacles to negotiate, many involving water and/or mud. Most participants are part of a team. There’s also a kids’ fun run.
The event also includes food and drink vendors and live music. It is a fundraiser for a number of charities and non-profit organizations.
You can register this evening at the fairgrounds from 5 to 8 p.m. You can also go out and watch and enjoy the food and music, even if you aren’t participating.

Arcola Broom Corn Festival
The 35th Broom Corn Festival race is Saturday in Arcola. There’s 5K and 10K runs and a recreational 5K walk. Here’s a link for the festival website. Go to the bottom for information about the race and a link for online registration and the race brochure.

Allerton 5K
This isn’t the Allerton trail run. It’s the OTHER Allerton — the village east of Broadlands on the Champaign/Vermilion county lines. The event on Saturday is a one-time race to celebrate the village’s 125th anniversary. The proceeds will support activities at Heritage High School. There’s a 5K run/walk and a 1-mile kids’ fun run.

Heartland Half Marathon and 5K
These races are Sunday in Effingham. The proceeds benefit a mentoring program in the Unit 40 schools and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization.

Bloomington/Normal Race for the Cure
This is the second year for Bloomington-Normal’s Race for the Cure. The event is Saturday and it includes a 5K race, a non-competitive 5K family run/walk and a non-competitive 1-mile family walk.

Capital City Century
This ride in Springfield is on Sunday and it includes routes of 25, 40, 62 and 100 miles. The rides all start at the Lake Springfield Beach House.

Fido Scurry
This event on Saturday includes a 5K race, a 1-mile run/walk, a pet parade and costume contest, a blessing of the animals and other doggie events. It’s at Fairview Park in Decatur and it benefits the Decatur and Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation. You don’t need a pet to participate.

Patriot Cyclocross
This is a series of races sponsored by Wild Card Cycling on Saturday at Heritage Park in Rantoul. Here’s a link for more information. Online registration is closed but you can register on race day.

Memorial Medical Center Kidney/Pancreas Transplant 5K Run/Walk
This race is Saturday at Washington Park in Springfield. The race raises money for patient needs, education and program development at the Center for Transplant Services at Memorial Medical Center.

Weekend of Sept. 15-16:
Shoreline Classic
This event on Sunday, Sept. 16, includes a 15 run, a 5K run/walk and a Tot Trot. The 15K goes around Lake Decatur. It’s one of my favorite races.
Registration for this race closes Sunday, so if you want to do it, register right away. For more information or to register, go to www.shorelineclassic.com.

Bob Galloway Memorial Amish Country Bicycle Tour
I love this ride around my hometown area. It’s Saturday, Sept. 15, and it’s organized by the Decatur Bicycle Club. There are distances of approximately 20, 42 and 60 miles.

Savoy Orchard Days 5K
This 5K on Saturday, Sept. 15, has an uphill finish. There’s also a youth 1K fun run. They are part of Savoy’s Orchard Days Festival.

Masonic Charity Trail Run
This is the first year for this trail run at Homer Lake on Saturday, Sept. 15. It’s a 4.25-mile run or walk through the woods and along the edges of Homer Lake. The run is sponsored by Ogden Masonic Lodge #754 and it benefits the Developmental Services Center.
This is a fun run. It will be timed, but there won’t be individual results provided. There will be door prizes and goodie bags for runners.

C.A.R.E. & Genesis Run/Walk for the Animals
This race on Sunday, Sept. 16, is at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon. It benefits the County Animal Rescue and Education and Genesis Animal Rescue in Coles County. The event includes a 5K run, a 5K walk and a 1-mile doggie run/walk for people and dogs.

Evergreen Lake Ultra and Half Ultra
These races on Sunday, Sept. 16, are run on a loop around Evergreen Lake in Comlara County Park, near Hudson. They are approximately 31 and 15.5 miles long.
You can register online here. And here’s the website for more information. Click on “Course Map” and you’ll see not only the map, but photos of the trail. It looks like a nice one. It’s on my list of races to do in the future.

Fall Festival Race the Cross
This is a 10K, a 5K and a 1-mile fun run on Sunday, Sept. 16, in Mattoon. Teams with a certain number of races in the 5K or 10K races can receive raffle tickets and/or cash.
There is race day registration. Here’s a link for more information.

Royal Flush 5K and 10K Poker Run
This is a free event on Saturday, Sept. 15, in Mattoon. You must make a donation, though, to be eligible for the giveaways and post-race party. The run is to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Prizes will be given to the top five poker hands from cards collected on the course.

I Run Chicago
This is a new 5K and 8K run in Lincoln Park in Chicago on Sunday, Sept. 16. It supports the University of Illinois I Fund, which provides scholarships and academic support services to UI athletes.
You can register as an individual or a team of five or more runners.
The event includes a post-race party at the Peggy Notebaert Museum, followed by a party at Joe’s Bar.
