The Fit List

Looking for a race this weekend or next? Here’s the list:

Weekend of Nov. 24-25:
Stuff ‘N Puff
This 5K race is on Saturday in Sullivan. This year the race starts and ends at Sullivan High School, and race proceeds will benefit the Sullivan-Okaw Valley cross country program. There’s also a 1-mile fun run.

FOLEPI River Trail Classic
This is a 4-mile run and 2-mile non-competitive walk on Saturday, in conjunction with the Festival of Lights in East Peoria. This is a point-to-point race, with buses taking racers to the start line.

Gravel Grovel
This event is a cyclocross race on Saturday in Norman, Ind. Actually, the race is billed as a combination of road riding, cyclocross and mountain biking. The race website says the course is mostly gravel forest roads, plus some paved sections.
There’s a 100K race and a 25-mile fun ride. There’s free tent camping or cabins or bunkhouses to rent, and a post-race Creole meal.

Weekend of Dec. 1-2:
Polar Paws
This is a 10K or 5K run with dogs on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Centennial Park. There will be various dog and human awards, so you might want to consider getting the pup a costume, or at least some reindeer antlers.
The race is sponsored by the Champaign Park District. Go to page 5 of the park district’s Funformation guide for more information. Here’s the link to the guide.

Frostbite Premier Winter Road Race
This is a 10-mile run and a 2-mile run/walk on Sunday, Dec. 2, in Springfield.

Team Luke 5K
This is a 5K run/walk, a 1-mile fun run and a kids fun run on Saturday, Dec. 1, in Effingham. It is being held to benefit and honor of Luke Johnson, a child who will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant as treatment for leukemia. Part of the proceeds from the race will go to the Pope John Paul II Stem Cell Research Institute.

Mike Walsh Memorial 5K
This race is on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Bement Grade School. The race proceeds will benefit local athletic scholarship and athletic programs.
