The Fit List

The Fit List

I keep thinking I’ve worn shorts for the last time this year ... and then it gets warm again. We’ve got at least a few more days of shorts weather this year. Take advantage of it.
Here’s the list of upcoming races:

Weekend of Dec. 1-2:
Polar Paws
This is a 10K or 5K run with dogs on Saturday at Centennial Park. There will be various dog and human awards, so you might want to consider getting the pup a costume, or at least some reindeer antlers.
The race is sponsored by the Champaign Park District. Go to page 5 of the park district’s Funformation guide for more information. Here’s the link to the guide.

Champaign Jingle Bell Run
This 5K run/walk is Sunday at Centennial Park. There’s also a costume contest.

Frostbite Premier Winter Road Race
This is a 10-mile run and a 2-mile run/walk on Sunday in Springfield.
Here’s a link to the registration page, which has more information about the event.

Team Luke 5K
This is a 5K run/walk, a 1-mile fun run and a kids fun run on Saturday in Effingham. It is being held to benefit and honor of Luke Johnson, a child who will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant as treatment for leukemia. Part of the proceeds from the race will go to the Pope John Paul II Stem Cell Research Institute.
Here’s the race brochure.

Mike Walsh Memorial 5K
This race is on Saturday at Bement Grade School. The race proceeds will benefit local athletic scholarship and athletic programs.

Weekend of Dec. 8-9:
Da Deer Run Run
This is an 8K Euro-style cross country race on Saturday, Dec. 8, at Comlara County Park near Hudson. The race includes trails, steeplechase barriers and creek crossings.

Mt. Zion Odd Fellows Frosty 5K
This race is Saturday, Dec. 8, in Mt. Zion, and it’s limited to the first 75 entrants. Runners get entered in a drawing for VISA gift cards, and there’s food afterward.

Miller Chill Cyclocross
These cyclocross races are Sunday, Dec. 9, in Bloomington. And after you race, you can compete in the log pulling event!

Kankakee Jingle Bell Run
This 5K run/walk is Sunday, Dec. 9, in Kankakee. I like that the Kankakee Daily Journal has been a huge supporter of this race.
