Runner's symposium

Runners, if you are training for one of the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon races, you might want to stop by the Christie Foundation's Runners' Symposium this weekend.

The symposium is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hilton Garden Inn in Champaign, and it will provide information to runners competing in any of the Illinois Marathon races on the weekend of April 26-27.

Among the topics to be discussed at the symposium are the runner’s heart and lungs; common skin ailments for runners; common injuries and their treatment and prevention; the runner’s foot and ankle; peak performance nutrition; and pain management.

The symposium will also include booths with educational information and testing for body mass index, blood pressure and lung function, and information on safe training techniques, nutrition and skin care. There will be refreshments, door prizes and give-aways related to athletics and running.

You also can meet other runners and compare notes on training.
