The Fit List

The Fit List

I’m looking forward to the race calendar starting to pick up steam for the spring. Here’s what I’ve got for the next couple of weekends:

Weekend of March 2-3:
Miller Park Zoo Stampede
This is a 5K run, a 3K walk and a 1/4-mile run for kids 10 and under on Saturday at Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington. The race proceeds go to the Miller Park Zoological Society, which supports the zoo.

Weekend of March 9-10:
Earth, Wind & Fire 5K
This is a 5K run and 2.5K walk on Saturday, March 9. The race is sponsored by the Prairie Research Institute, and it’s part of the Naturally Illinois Expo that weekend. Race proceeds go to supporting the expo.
The run and walk go through the University of Illinois campus.
The awards for this race are really cool — casts of fossils.

Cactus Classic Trail Race
This event on Saturday, March 9, includes a 10K, half marathon and marathon at Sand Ridge State Park near Manito, southwest of Peoria.
The races are run on loose, sandy trails with flats and gently rolling hills, according to the website.
Marathoners run two loops of the half marathon course, and they must complete the first loop in 3 1/2 hours to be allowed to continue.

YMCA Indoor Tri
Yah, it’s one of the first tris of the season! This indoor triathlon is at the YMCA in Decatur on Sunday, March 10. And this tri goes by time rather than distance. Participants swim for 15 minutes, ride a stationary bike for 15 minutes and run on a treadmill for 15 minutes. Order of finish is determined by who covers the most distance.

River Run 5K
This race is on Saturday, March 9, at River Road Park in Kankakee. Here’s a link to the race form.
