The Fit List
Have a good weekend running or riding or whatever activity you choose. I’ll be doing a little of both, with some swimming thrown in too. And here’s your list of races.
Weekend of July 20-21:
— Run for the Bagel
This race includes 10K and 5K runs, a 5K walk, and a 1-mile run (timed or not timed — you choose). They are on Saturday in Mattoon.
I ran this for the first time last year and really liked it. Getting a 10K PR didn’t hurt.
Here’s a link for more information.
— Fisherman’s Trail
This trail run is Saturday at Comlara County Park near Hudson. The web page did not have a finalized route, but it said the run will be between 5 and 5.5 miles, all on trail. The race brochure says the trail is fairly technical — rocks, roots, water, etc.
The race benefits the El Paso and Bloomington-Normal St. Jude runs for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

— Daycation Museum Bicycle Series Ride #1
Champaign Cycle is bringing back its museum bike rides this summer. There are three rides to area museums, and this is the first. It’s on Saturday and riders will visit the National Museum of Ship Models and Sea History in Sadorus.
Riders will get a map with suggested stopping points and options for making the rides longer. The ride is a self-guided tour, with riders going at their own paces. There’s no charge for the ride, but riders will have to pay the museum admission fees.
The other museum rides will go to the Museum of the Grand Prairie at Lake of the Woods in Mahomet on Aug. 10 and to the Chanute Air Museum in Rantoul on Sept. 14. Here’s a link for more information.
Wednesday, July 24:
— The Sizzling Mile
This a 1-mile race at the Sacred Heart-Griffin track in Springfield on Wednesday, July 24. You can choose a heat in which to run based on your expected finish time. Here’s a link for more information.
Friday, July 26:
— Miracle Mile Under the Lights
And another chance to run a timed mile on the track. This one is Friday, July 26, at the St. Joseph-Ogden High School track. Registration is race night only. Heats will be split by gender and age. All proceeds go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Weekend of July 27-28:
— Route 66 Half Iron/Iron Abe/Stoneman Sprint triathlons
This will be my third year of participating in these events, and I really like them. I’ll be doing the Iron Abe, but I’m looking forward to seeing how the Half Iron racers like that event.
The triathlons are on Saturday, July 27, in Springfield. The Route 66 Half Iron triathlon is a new event this year, with half Ironman distances for each leg: 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and a half marathon. The Iron Abe is an Olympic distance tri, with a .9-mile swim, a 24.8-mile bike ride and a 10K run. The Stoneman Sprint is a 500-yard swim, a 12-mile bike ride and a 5K run.
All the events have a relay competition as well as individual. It looks like you can register on race day for the Route 66 Half Iron and the Iron Abe, but Friday, July 26 is the last day for registration for the Stoneman Sprint.
