The Fit List

It’s the Thanksgiving edition of The Fit List. We’ve got turkey trots, a Santa chase, a Jingle Bell run — and a Flippin Fast Mile. Gotta make room for seconds (maybe thirds!) of pumpkin pie.

Weekend of Nov. 23-24:
Run for the Library
This is a 5K run/walk on Saturday at Lake of the Woods in Mahomet. It’s organized by Friends of the Mahomet Public Library and the Rotary Club of Mahomet, and it benefits both groups. The money is used for various community programs.

Schumacher Shuffle
This is a 5K run/walk on Saturday in Philo. The race benefits the St. Thomas Catholic School. There’s also a 1K kids race.

Tumbling Turkey 5K and The Flippin Fast Mile
These races are in Danville on Saturday. It’s organized by the Vermilion County Fun Run folks, who do a kids summer running series. There’s the 5K and the 1-mile race — a downhill road mile that is new this year.

Mattoon Santa Chase
This is a half marathon and a 5K on Saturday in Mattoon. It precedes the Mattoon holiday parade, and the races benefit Mattoon Youth Wrestling.

Kankakee Jingle Bell 5K
This weekend’s Jingle Bell fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation is in Kankakee, on Saturday. Here’s a link for more information.

Thursday, Nov. 28 — Happy Thanksgiving!:Blog Photo
Turkey Trot — Urbana
This is the Urbana Park District’s annual event on Thanksgiving morning. It’s a free 1-mile run/walk through Crystal Lake Park, followed by a raffle. Here’s a link for more information.

Turkey Trot — Bloomington
There’s a 3-mile run, a 1 1/2-mile walk and a 1/2-mile kids run at this event on Thanksgiving Day at Miller Park in Bloomington. And you could win a turkey. Here’s the website with more information.

Struttin’ then Stuffin’ 5K
If you’re in Springfield for Thanksgiving, here’s a 5K that morning to benefit CATCH medication assistance. Click here for the race form.
NOTE: This is the same time and location as the Springfield Road Runners Club’s Cold Duck Run, an annual Thanksgiving Day fun run and potluck for its club members.

Running for Randy 5K
This Thanksgiving Day run is in Bourbonnais. It’s a 5K run and 2-mile walk hosted by the Kankakee River Running Club in honor of Randy Riegel, a club member who is recovering from a stroke he suffered last year. Proceeds from the event will go toward helping Riegel with his medical expenses.

Weekend of Nov. 30-Dec. 1:
Stuff ‘N Puff 5K
This is a 5K race and a 1-mile fun run on Saturday, Nov. 30, in Sullivan. It benefits the Sullivan-Okaw Valley cross country program.

FOLEPI River Trail Classic
This is a four-mile run and a two-mile non-competitive walk on Saturday, Nov. 30. It’s run on the River Trail of Illinois in East Peoria. The run and walk are point-to-point and there is transportation available to the start. Enter by Nov. 22 if you want the sweatshirt. You can also opt out of the sweatshirt and pay a lower entry fee.

Frostbite Premier Winter Road Race
This is a 10-mile run and a 2-mile run/walk on Sunday, Dec. 1, in Springfield. Here’s a link for online registration and more information.

Weekend of Dec. 7-8:
Polar Paws 5K
This is a 5K run/walk with your dog on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Centennial Park. Only one dog per runner allowed. There will be treats for dogs and people. There will be awards for dogs and humans in the following categories: fastest, most stylish, look-alike, best holiday costume and the Joy of the Season Award for those having the most fun.

Run Run Santa
This is a 5K on Saturday, Dec. 7, in Petersburg. The goodie bags for runners include a Santa hat and beard, and the jolly old elf will make an appearance at the end of the race. Proceeds from the race go to the PORTA High School post-prom fund.

Reindeer Poker Run
This is a fun run and fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Raymond Floyd Golf Club in Decatur. It will be either one or two loops of a 5K course, and runners will be dealt a card at each kilometer. The best hand winds. This is a fun run with no entry fee or timing, but donations will be accepted for the organizer’s fundraising for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.

Jingle Bell Run — Peoria
This is a Jingle Bell run/walk in Peoria on Saturday, Dec. 7. As with other Jingle Bell runs, it’s a fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation. There’s also a Reindeer Dash for kids ages 3 to 8 and there’s a costume contest.
