Want to run some hills? Check out the Mountain Goat this weekend at Kickapoo State Recreation Area. Here’s your info on that race and others.

 

Weekend of March 19-20:

Mountain Goat

The race is back on the “old” course, meaning more hills! Choose from 8.8-mile or 4.4-mile runs or a 2.2-mile walk. The races are Saturday at Kickapoo State Recreation Area. It’s one of Kennekuk Road Runners’ Grand Slam events. Here’s a link for the race flyer, and here’s a link for online registration.

 

Penguin in the Park 5K

This 5K race is Saturday at Fairfview Park in Decatur. Running columnist John “The Penguin” Bingham, a graduate of Millikin University in Decatur, attends the race every year. This year’s race includes a 300-meter Tot Trot. Go to http://www.penguin5k.com/ for more information.

 

Runnin’ of the Irish

This 10K and 5K is Saturday in Effingham. Go to http://www.irishrun.com/ for more information.

 

Interplanetary 5K

This Peoria race on Saturday runs through a portion of the Central Illinois Community Solar System, a large-scale model of the solar system. The race includes a 5K, a 1-mile fitness walk and a half-mile kids’ fun run. Here’s a link for more information.

 

S.O.A.R. Respect Run

This non-competitive 5K is Sunday at Miller Park in Bloomington. It is hosted by S.O.A.R. (Special Opportunities Available in Recreation), which provides recreation opportunities for people with disabilities. Click here for more information.

 

Weekend of March 26-27:

5K Easter Son-Rise and Run

This 5K fun run/walk is on Easter Sunday, March 27, and is part of Easter services at St. James United Methodist Church in Danville. The idea is to recreate the scene at the empty tomb of Jesus, when his followers ran to tell others of the good news. The event is free and open to anyone. Run for Hope

This race on Saturday, March 26, in Bloomington includes a 10K, a 5K and a kids’ fun run. It benefits Home Sweet Home Ministries, which provides services to the homeless. Here’s a link to the race website.

 

Litchfield Spring Duathlon

This duathlon is Saturday, March 26, in Litchfield. The race distance is a 2-mile run, 12-mile bike and 2-mile run. Here’s a link for online registration.

 

Weekend of April 2-3:

— Run for the Library

This 10K and 5K is Saturday, April 2, at Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve in Mahomet. The race benefits the Rotary Club of Mahomet and Friends of the Mahomet Public Library. Go to http://runforthelibrary.info/ for more information.

 

Lincoln Presidential Half Marathon

This half marathon is Saturday, April 2, at Springfield. Run past Lincoln sites, get a finisher medal that is a giant penny, and you can have your picture taken with a Lincoln impersonator and Civil War interpreters. Go to http://runabe.srrc.net/ for more information.

 

Lake Sara Dam Run

This race is Saturday, April 2, in Effingham. It includes an 8-mile run, a 5K run and a 5K competitive walk. Go to http://www.lakesaradamrun.com/ for race information.

 

Run2beatPD

This 5K run and 1-mile walk is Saturday, April 2, in Forsyth. The race aims to raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease. Proceeds will go for a scholarship for a high school senior in Macon County entering college in the fall who plans to go into the healthcare field and to the National Parkinson Foundation.
