Weekend of May 14-15:

Not Your Average Joe

This race includes a 5-mile run, a 5K run and a 5K walk. The race is Saturday at Crystal Lake Park in Urbana, and it honors the life of Joe Seeley, a former Human Kinetics employee who was involved in the organization of this race when it was Twin Cities Twosome, a longtime runner and part of the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon team who died of leukemia in 2012. Kirby Derby

This race is Saturday in Monticello, and it includes a 10K, 5K and kids’ run. Race proceeds will go to developing a Wellness Trail by the Kirby Foundation. Go to http://www.kirbyderby.org/ for more information.

 

More Miles 4 Murelle

This is a fun run Saturday at Forest Glen Preserve, near Westville. The run is a fundraiser for a young runner from St. Joseph who has been fighting cancer. Donations will help her family with medical expenses. The run is a 5-mile course and runners can do as much as they want. There is also a 1-mile walk course. Races for All Paces

This race is Saturday on the Eastern Illinois University campus, and it has a race distance for everyone. There’s a half marathon, a 10K relay, a 10K, a 5K and a 1-mile race, as well as kids’ race -- the Toddler Trot and the Diaper Dash. The event includes music and kids’ activities. 5K Grow and Go

This race is Saturday in Bloomington. It includes a 5K, a 1-mile walk and a kids’ race. The race benefits the Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom Program. Click here for more information.

 

Run and Walk for the Talk

This is a 5K run/walk on Saturday in Decatur. Here’s a link for more information.

 

Hustle to Havana 5K

This 5K is Saturday at Meadowbrook Park in Urbana. There’s also a kids’ 1K race. The race raises money for the First Presbyterian Church of Champaign to support a sister church in Cuba. Here’s a link for more information and online registration.

 

Wednesday, May 18:

Ride of Silence

This ride is part of a nationwide event to remember those injured or killed due to unsafe riding conditions and to raise awareness about sharing the road with bicycles. The 8-mile ride leaves from the parking lot east of the I-Hotel at First Street and St. Mary’s Road and goes through downtown Champaign and Urbana. Weekend of May 21-22:

Buffalo Trace

This race is Saturday, May 21, at Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve in Mahomet. There’s a 5-mile run and a 2-mile walk on grassy trails with rolling hills, meadows, prairie and wooded areas. Here’s a link for more information.

 

Whitmore Classic 5 Mile

This 5-mile race is Saturday, May 21, in Decatur. This year it is the RRCA Illinois State Championship 5 Mile race. Here’s a link for more information.

 

Live Grit Weekend Getaway

This is a two-day ride on Saturday, May 21, and Sunday, May 22, based in Champaign. The routes include four 25-mile loops that go north, south, east and west from Champaign, as well as one 13-mile loop from one of the rest stop locations. Click here for more information.

 

Tour de Exchange

This ride is Saturday, May 21, in Charleston. It includes distances of 10, 25 and 40 miles. This will be a timed event for the first time this year. Here’s a link for more information and online registration.

 

May Madness Sprint

This sprint triathlon is Saturday, May 21, in Effingham. The distances are a quarter-mile swim, 13.1-mile bike ride and a 5K run. Registration ends on May 19. Participants can do this as a relay or as an individual. Here’s a link for more information.

 

Mission in Motion

This is a ride on Saturday, May 21, in Bourbonnais. There are 25, 40 and 62-mile routes. The ride is one of three in Illinois and Indiana during May that support Youth for Christ. Go to http://missioninmotion.spyfc.org/ for more information.
