Weekend of May 21-22:

Buffalo Trace

This race is Saturday at Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve in Mahomet. There’s a 5-mile run and a 2-mile walk on grassy trails with rolling hills, meadows, prairie and wooded areas. Here’s a link for more information.

 

Whitmore Classic 5 Mile

This 5-mile race is Saturday in Decatur. This year it is the RRCA Illinois State Championship 5 Mile race. Here’s a link for more information.

 

Live Grit Weekend Getaway

This is a two-day ride on Saturday and Sunday, based in Champaign. The routes include four 25-mile loops that go north, south, east and west from Champaign, as well as one 13-mile loop from one of the rest stop locations. Click here for more information.

 

Tour de Exchange

This ride is Saturday in Charleston. It includes distances of 10, 25 and 40 miles. This will be a timed event for the first time this year. Here’s a link for more information and online registration.

 

Jubilee Challenge

This mountain bike race is Saturday, May 21, at Jubilee College State Park near Peoria. This year it is the RRCA Illinois State Championship 5 Mile race. Here’s a link for online registration, and here’s a link about the Illinois State Championship Race Series..

 

Mission in Motion

This is a ride on Saturday in Bourbonnais. There are 25, 40 and 62-mile routes. The ride is one of three in Illinois and Indiana during May that support Youth for Christ. Go to http://missioninmotion.spyfc.org/ for more information.

 

Weekend of May 28-30:

Bike the Drive

This ride is Sunday, May 29, on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. A portion of the drive is closed to car traffic and open to bicycles for about five hours beginning at 5:30 a.m. There’s a post-ride festival with breakfast and live music. The ride supports the Active Transportation Alliance, an advocacy organization for bicycling, walking and public transportation. Go to http://www.bikethedrive.org/ for more information.

 

Memorial Day 5K

This 5K is Monday, May 30 -- Memorial Day. It’s at the Veterans Administration Illiana Healthcare System in Danville. All proceeds from the race benefit the veterans at the VA hospital. Here’s a link for the race flier and here’s a link for online registration.

 

Memorial Mile

This 1-mile run is Monday, May 30, in Bloomington. The route follows the Memorial Day parade route in downtown Bloomington and ends in Miller Park. There will be five heats for various divisions by age and speed. Click here for more information.

 

Springdale Salute

This 5K is Monday, May 30, at Lower Glen Oak Park in Peoria. The race goes through Springdale Cemetery. I’ve run there; it’s hilly. There’s a cash prize for the most patriotic costume. There’s also a 1-mile fun walk. The race proceeds will be used to make home repairs for area veterans. Here’s a link for more information.

 

Weekend of June 4-5:

Countryside 10K and 5K

This race is Saturday, June 4, at Witt Park in Sidney. It is a fundraiser for the Champaign County Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarship and Ag Literacy programs. The race includes 5K and 10K distances. Click here for more information and online registration.

 

The One & Only 5K

This 5K race is Saturday, June 4, in Farmer City. Race proceeds benefit a scholarship program of the Farmer City Chamber of Commerce. Here’s a link for more information.

 

Erin’s Annual 5K/10K Run/Walk Against Cystic Fibrosis

This race is Saturday, June 4, in Tuscola. Race proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. For more information, go to www.erinsrace.com.

 

St. Jude Dash and Bash

This 5K race on June 4 in Sullivan. There is also a 1-mile fun run and a tot trot. The 5K run/walk events are timed but non-competitive. Race proceeds go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Tri-Shark

This is a sprint triathlon and a duathlon on Saturday, June 4, at Comlara County Park near Hudson. The triathlon consists of a 600-yard swim in Evergreen Lake, a 13-mile bike ride and a 5K run. The Dri-Shark duathlon consists of a 2-mile run, 13-mile bike ride and a 5K run. Each event can also be entered by two- and three-person relay teams as well as individuals. Ride United

This bike ride is Sunday, June 5, starting from Fairview Park in Decatur. There are 10-, 20-, 40- and 60-mile routes to choose from. Click here for more information.

 

French Fried 5K

This is a 5K followed by a street party on Saturday, June 4, in Decatur. The run is a competitive, timed event. But the less serious “funners” can walk the route, get beer and French fries at aid stations and take a shortcut to the street party. Here’s a link for more information.

 

Galesburg Half Marathon

This race is Sunday, June 5, in Galesburg. It includes a half marathon, 5K and a 1-mile fun run/walk. Go to www.rungalesburgrun.com for more information.
